@owlstalk
On a matchday it's great to walk down to the ground and see it from a distance as you approach BUT Gone are the days when you could see Hillsborough from even further away - with the floodlights lighting up the Sheffield skyline from miles away - calling Sheffield Wednesday fans to the match... It was like a shining beacon of holy light shouting to the masses to come to church to witness their gods Since the floodlights came down there's less of a spectacle in the sky, and we are worse off for it Our floodlights rocked... they were a tower of hope in the night sky Let's have a floodlights tribute thread - get your pics posted of our Hillsborough floodlights in action.... Ha ha, very good, you nearly had me there, for one minute i actually thought they had gone, if sumat like that ever happened we would probably go through a period were we were very poor in night games, so for that reason alone the floodlight pylons must stay
Guest The Horse
I loved the floodlights. And the flagless flag poles. It was non-verbal for 'important stuff goes off around here'. Gave an air of majesty to the entire area.

ReadingOwl
As a kid, on the Kop at night matches, I used to watch the North Stand - there was never anytime when a Cigarette wasn't being lit. Matches and lighters were being constantly used. It used to fascinate me. I also used to like it on the Kop at Christmas. On Boxing Day it used have the distinct smell of cigars. All the old blokes smoked them as they must have had them bought as Christmas presents. Tom Thumb cigars - remember them? Cigarettes smell horrible - but cigars smelled lovely on the Kop. ReadingOwl
Mr Hayes - My Mums old next door neighbour on the Cross (sadly deceased) gave me his 1966 Cup Final program as he knew I was Wednesday mad. I still have it - it is priceless. He has crossed out 'Mobley' and handwritten in 'Ellis' on the team sheet. My Mum always used to buy me a box of Tom Thumb cigars to give him for Christmas - I bet he used to smoke them at the match. (Note - we always called adults Mr or Mrs, in them days - I still do. We never even knew their first names).
