had a great reply from the FSF

Nigel,

Unfortunately the current football leagues allow this. The relevant section is below

34.2.11 Discounts or special promotions (in each case for one match only) made available to supporters of the Home Club must also be made available on a similar basis to visiting supporters provided always that each Club shall be permitted to designate four (4) Matches per Season as 'local promotion' Matches where this Regulation shall be deemed not to apply. Clubs shall notify the Executive of the Matches so designated as and when they are designated.

The FSF opposes this rule and have raided it many times with the FL to know avail,.

I would suggest you write to them and lodge your complaint and then take it up with Ombudsman. Hopefully if enough do this they may decide to do something about this rule.

You could also try writing to Middlebrough and use the following as a guideline to see what their reaction is

This is interesting as your policy with regard to ticket pricing for this match surely is a form of discrimination against MK Dons supporters who are having to pay three times the price of a home adult supporter (£21 as opposed to £7)? The Leagues policy states:

Anti Discrimination Policy

The Football League seeks to ensure that spectators, players, officials and others involved at football matches and in football generally should be protected from discrimination, including that on the grounds of age, Race or Ethnic Origin, Religious Belief, Sexual Orientation, Disability, Gender or any other unjustifiable reason.

The Football League promotes inclusion and is committed to working with partner agencies to provide education and information to promote inclusion.

The Football League has procedures to deal with any incidents of prejudice ensuring that those who believe they have been abused or treated unfairly can raise their issue through the channels explained in this charter.

If any complaint of this nature is received The Football League will investigate if appropriate with assistance from other football and statutory agencies and make recommendations or change procedures as necessary.

One widely held definition of Ethnic Origin is “Ethnicity is defined from the recognition by others as a distinct group and by common cultural, linguistic, religious, behavioral or biological traits”. Hence MK Dons supporters could be classified by that definition as an distinct cultural group hence an Ethnic Group and therefore the Leagues Anti Discrimination policy would apply.

I would implore you in view of the above to rethink your decision and publish as early as possible tomorrow morning a statement that informs supporters that the pricing will apply to ALL supporters. Those paying on the gate will be charged £7 and those who have purchased tickets via MK Dons will obtain a refund from MK Dons – this to be funded by yourselves.

Hi Nige, I believe in your efforts s you know. I do however feel though, that with such support, we should be asking our own club to flex her muscles in terms of our vastly superior purchasing power. .' . putting a little extra money back into the fans hands.

I noticed last season the droves of Blackpool fans intent on enjoying their Premiership away days. Contrast this with ther pathetic turnout the other night. Conversley, we could offer the whole away end for £100K which works out at about £15 a ticket, disposing of this how many do you want sale structure...That way fans are rewarded for their loyalty and charged premium prices if they travel in less numbers.

When faced with away trips our opening gambit should be " we'll take all you've got at £15 per head" With our number we're hardly going to get turned down. If the club won't or cant do it, let Wednesdayite take on the guise of being the away day booking agent.

And the team we are visiting will tell us to testicles as they know we will sell whatever they give us at full price.

It would also be an absolute nightmare to administer - how much do you charge the first people to buy tickets when you don't know exactly how many you will sell and therefore how much the tickets would cost?? Do you go back and ask them for more money if we don't sell out the away end? Or give them a refund if we do?

Home teams can choose 4 games a season where they can have an offer on which isn't available to away fans. We've done it regularly in the past with Kids for £1 and Friends for £5 etc. You can get around the 4 per season rule if you extend the offer out to the visiting club too [which Wednesday have done in the past on occasion too] but, overall, it's all about revenue - not the fans.

'Boro know that we will bring a large following, regardless of Friday night/Sky etc. They know they would lose money if they offered us £12 tickets. And they would make more money by having it for home fans only and boosting the gate. I agree it's not great for us on this occasion but this isn't something that Wednesday don't do themselves.

"Our own fans won't turn up, let's bribe them with cheap tickets"

"The Wednesday will willingly turn up in high numbers, let's charge them full up money and rub our hands together"

It's a flipping disgrace to be honest.

They'll lose in the end though with their pathetic crowds.

So the team with the largest support will win?

so basically theyre allowed to do it.....like we allready knew

I already knew they were allowed to do it

It doesnt make it right though

Obviously it makes f*** all difference to someone like you - but it does to real fans who go

It also doesnt mean that it ends there either

Is the Football League an entity that would come under the legislation of thr Freedom of Information Act? If so, it might be worth putting a request in for minutes of the meeting where this rule was discussed before it wad implemented.

It obviously needs more pressure on the Football League to change this rule and a nice article in a national paper about the Football League executives views in fleecing fans could certainly help.
