Guest DiCrazyman
flippinghated the thrower. Every time my old man saw his name in the matchday programme he'd rant "We can't play against 12 flippingmen". More often than not he was right. What a blast from the past, I'm gunna ask old man if he remembers Courtney tomorrow when I drop my kids off on way to work. I guarantee he'll rage up, will post his response if it's funny enough! My ol fella was exactly the same. he'd read the back of the programme and " ....oh for fooks sake, not Courtney again". I grew up thinking he was Adolfs brother or summat

alanharper
Philip Don was another joker, it beggars belief how some of them made it to the highest level - it really shows how bad the general standard is. The real creme de la crap is still in the lower leagues though, where people like Deadman and Beeby manage to ruin games every week.

WadsleyOwl
Wasn't it Courtney that reffed the 1983 FA Cup Semi v Brighton, denied us a pen when Steve Foster pulled back Bannister, could be wrong, was only young then.

Guest Fedor
Keith Hackett was a legend. I remember him coming to visit us at Junior school Keith Hackett was a decent bloke in his reffing days, but now he is so far up his own arse its untrue. A bloke who comes in to our work is a former ref, and now an asessor. Craig something or other, (not sure of his sirname). He is proper funny to watch. He strolls round the shop floor then breaks out in to little sprints as if he is gonna book somebody. And is always pointing at imaginary things as if they are players. Sham67
He used to stay with our Maths lecturer at Sheffield Poly when reffing us back in the day. He said Courtney used to love winding us up to get a reaction. Courtney hated Wednesday fans with a passion.
Inspector Lestrade
I know he was the original 'ref to hate' but my only memory of him was at villa park where he gave us that Jemson goal to win the game. Best bit was Les Sealey going ballistic right in front of us. I was there bloody hell he went crazy

I was sat on the bottom tier but part of the stand went round slightly to one side. I had a perfect view of it and it was a goal. It was Sealeys fault as he actually carried the ball over the line. I never understood Sealey’s reaction tbh.

scilly owl
Headmaster and Freemason, says it all really. Has to join a secret society to feel “ exclusive “ , has to stand in front of children to feel authoritative and has to wear a uniform and brandish cards to feel powerful. I bet that he made airfix models of battleships in his spare time.

I dont' think there's been many referee's over the course of Sheffield Wednesday's history that have needed police escorts from the pitch most times they've reffed at our place Remember him ? Crazy times... Definitely. In a time when you only knew the name of the referee because they were notoriously cr@p. Nowadays the referees to a certain extent look to be as much of a star on the pitch as the players and most are known these days. I’ve always said arguably the most important person on the pitch is the ref because if they wake up one morning and decide to shaft a team then they can and no one can stop them from doing so? We’ve been shafted many times?

He told him if he had had the same view as the TV he would have given it. If only.
