4-1-2-3

Recommended Posts

With Semedo signing it looks like this is our plan for next season.

Pros

- JJ won't have to do any defending, should get the best out of him

- Semedo sounds perfect for holding role

- Should make us tight defensively

- Madine has the right attributes to play up top on his own

- Others teams are less used to playing against this system?

Cons

- Who's going to get the goals from midfield?

- Will Madine score enough?

- Left winger?

- Isn't JJ more effective when he runs with the ball from deep?

What are people's thoughts? Could we play 4-1-3-2?

As mentioned in another thread, 4-2-3-1 would be my shout, the swansea formation, prutton and semedo sitting with JJ and possibly dyer either side of a creative attacking mid, then take your pick up front,madine/mellor?/morrison or A N other. By the way taking into account we are unlikely to get koumas who is there out there within our range we could get to do the attacking mid role??

Apart from the JJ bit, all the cons will be sorted with the next few signings

prob be signing two more strikers(Mellor and McDonald?)

one maybe two wingers (hopefully Dyer)

attacking mid (long shot but Koumas would do)

We sign those five and I'd be

I think the main problem is that unlike in 4-4-2 where you've got six players who might get you goals, you're effectively relying on 4 players with 4-2-3-1. Two of those are gonna be Madine and JJ, neither of whom is proven to be prolific. The other two? Would be very happy with MacDonald and Koumas. But they're not very likely. Dyer and Mellor I'd be much less happy with, purely because I don't think they'd provide enough goals.

Coke would be ideal for the attacking midfield role. Having the freedom to roam with Prutton & Semedo behind him is likely to bring back the form he showed at the start of last season.

Just my opinion of course.
