asteener1867
I was at the game when Curran scored...on Shoreham st....I went to the county cup games at the lane, and stood on Shoreham st...not because of any hooliganistic tendencies..I lived at Gleadless at the time and most of me mates were Blades...there were 3 of us who were Wednesday fans...So we went to the Lane together....stood on Shoreham st then seperated into our own factions just before kick off...there were always large amounts of Wednesday fans on the Kop at the lane...one night match in the county cup when Joicey got the winner..there were more Owls than Blades...and the Owls fans were in the middle of the Kop..no arguement...its simply plain fact......When we went to Hillsborough...we seperated at Hillsborough corner...they went on the Lepp, we went on the Kop..thats how things were in the 70's...WEdnesday always took large numbers onto Shoreham st...United never did at Hillsborough...and you can argue blue and red about the why's and wherfores...but any Blade who was around at the time if he told the truth would tell you simply the same

marconi
I was on their Kop stood with some Blunts, jumped up when I thought Ian Mellor had scored with a header in the first half, and had to take a bit of banter for the rest of the match. Most of it was how crap Curren was. Loved it when he scored that goal.
jamiejohn
pig fans simply wont accept any wednesdayite dare go on the kop , its a derby and in most cases one with plenty of tickets available and proper fans will want to go no matter what . There were pigs on the kop boxing day owls on the shoreham that easter i know i was at both the only difference was there was no trouble at hillsboro . In derbies since i would say both clubs have had supporters on the opposition ends it goes without saying but the only time it stands out is when the away team win and fans are left in virtually empty stands celebrating as in 92 The only game i can remember when there were clearly huge numbers of pigs on the home areas was the ZDS game when they all piled in the south , I went with 2 piggie mates so we decided the south was the best bet only to be told by plod it was carnage in ther and escorted on to the north , non of us got any trouble despite there being a mix of fans even when i went bezerk at shezzas goal

Son of Sam
Ask any of your old boys about the 100 or so of us on your kop for a FULL SEASON in the early 70s...Try D***** or SC****** BTW...the last time you brought any number on the east bank of any number was in 63' when Birchenall made his debut...how do I know ? my dad and uncle took me ...and they're both blades So the 'Egg Day' in 1966 never happened then? alanharper
So it did happen then? I haven't got a clue, I'm not familiar with hardcore hooligan blitzkrieg strategy. I just think it's laughable that you're bringing up people throwing eggs 45 years ago.

ReadingOwl
So the 'Egg Day' in 1966 never happened then? This joke is not as good as the 'tunnel diggers' joke. That one was hilarious, even if equally obscure.

ReadingOwl
But the question is, did it happen or not? In 1966 I was 7. I remember that England won the World Cup. We lost in the FA Cup final 3-2 to Everton. We were the first team to get to a final playing every fixture away. We were the first losing team to do a 'lap of honour'. My father took me to Hillsborough to cheer the team home. I was on his shoulders. Don't know anything about egg day. You tell us all about it. You raised it. Was it a big day in your history?
