Early Sts and new signings, or lack of.

Recommended Posts

Since the STs have been on sale for months to get the money in, where are the new signings? Is there any benefit to seeling STs early? All it does it cause harship around christmas time.

Top of the list for next season has to be a central midfielder/playmaker.

The early sale of season tickets probably has less purpose now that we aren't skint.

Since the advent of the Bosman ruling, transfer activity doesn't really take place in earnest until after 1st July - I know it's frustrating but you'll just have to be patient.

Great another thread about lack of signings.....

New players don't really start coming in until June.

Transfer window isnt even open yet...

Wonder how many tims this has to said before it sinks in, its like buying a house in as much as all the work is going on behind the scenes, as in the viewing, making contact, and putting in offers.

Oh and MM dd say that the budget was NOT dependant on ST sales, although getting some away tickets this coming season just might be.

Seriously, moaning about lack of new players already?

We're not even 2 weeks on from the end of the season - chill your boots.

Hey up numnutz, this is a thread about STs around Christmas which seems pretty pointless to me.

So why sell STs at Christmas?

Surely it has something to do with the fact that a seasons budget is not drafted up overnight, those at the top need to know in advance the kind of figures they have to work with.

Just out of curiosity, why would you buy a ST at Christmas, when the deadline is months after ?

So why sell STs at Christmas?

1. To spread the work load over a longer period and avoid having just a few weeks in the summer to sort it all out on top of the other usual stuff.

2. To help with income forecasts/projections for the coming season. Probably less critical for us now since Milan's arrival but most other clubs do it too.

Regarding the seemingly lack of transfer activity. It's too early for signings just yet because these days players contracts run up to the end of June.

So we still have to pay Tommy Miller, Richard Hinds, JJ etc. their wages until then. This means they and all the other out of contract players in the country who technically are now out of work, get at least two months more salary. This creates a buffer period where managers, players/agents will be talking and wheeling & dealing but nothing is usually announced until after June 30th.

Also players (out of contract or otherwise) and some managers will be away on holiday right now so that slows down events somewhat.

Just chill - its not even the end of May yet.

I still think that selling ST's so early is counter-productive. Having the deadline of March for 'full' discount is just plain wrong.

We hardly sell any ST's after the march deadline date - and the disappearance of the season ticket 'scoreboard' bears testament to that.

I have renewed, always will. But why only offer maximum discount 5 months before the following season starts? If somebody buys a ST the day before the season starts, their money is still valid, welcome and worth the same. When we start selling 30k ST's, then we can flip about with pointless deadline dates.

And all this we need to plan for next years budget lark is a load of gonads - most people on this very forum could guesstimate how many ST's would be sold, what they expect the next attendence to be etc.

Why punish or put people off who are wanting to put money into the club?
