Spurr has always been poo poo and always will be. The only reason he looked so good is because he was playing in a awful side and he had a few good games. Never want to see him in a Wednesday shirt again.

He wasn't in a poo poo team, 2006/07 we finished 9th and Tommy was excellent, another highlight season was 2008/09 we finished 12th. To say he was in a poo poo team is utter throw. Much better teams than where we are now. Furtthermore for the 'get rid', 'useless', 'clear out' group, o'connor, potter, johnson, buxton, beevers all played great roles in the 2008/09 season and you classed them good championship players then. Something awful has happened at hillsborough the last couple of seasons, which we as fans do not know about. Now, the 'transition'period is over an we have stability it would be stupid to let go of some of these players.

Also playing with Chris Brunt now playing well and consistently in the top half of the premier league

Glenn Whelan, just played in the 5-0 thrashing of Bolton in the FA cup semis, now in the final

Madjid Bougherra, with Rangers and has played champions league football since he left.

Marcus Tudgay, with Nottingham Forest pushing for the play-offs in the championship.

Yes such an awful team Tommy Spurr was playing in.

Reminds me of what a great player Jon Beswtherwick must have been

Played in a team that contained a keeper that was one of the best in the country a few seasons before - a striker in Kuqi who went on to be a premier player, Sibon who left and had great success in Holland and played champions league football, former Liverpool and general premier stalwart David Burrows, premeirship player and Norwegian international Soltvedt, Donnelly and O'Donnell who won everything in Scotland as well as playing for Scotland....

What a player Beswetherwick must have been to play in that company

I don't dislike Spurr, he has passion and wants to do well but in a nut shell, he's just not good enough.

Nor is he the best crosser at the club... God knows where that has come from. he seems to just close his eyes and hit it as hard as he can into the box.

Really like Spurr as a player and love his attitude.

Unfortunately he is seriosly lacking confidence at the moment.

He will be a good player again for sure, but maybe its guna be with a different club now...hope not.

Spurr has always been poo poo and always will be. Megson has seen this and that's why Megson hasn't played him recently. He's poo poo. End of.

Spurr was a decent full back in the championship when playing along side Wood and Beevers. His downfall like many other players seems to have started with thr appointment of Irvine. I always thought Spurr has given 100% despite some shakey performances, which is more than can be said of Clinton Morrison who has stolen a living at this club (imo).

Spurr - promising youngster playing out of position. (circa 2007)

Spurr - player playin out of position and not moved on (2011)

Joins the long list of promising youngsters who never developed.

Became a regular in and around the first team in 06/07 as a left back (which is where he has played in all bar about half a dozen games for the first team) he's probably played left back now longer than he ever played centre half, he's not playing out of position, he's just not that good (despite being a trier)

please say you are joking? My point is Tommy Spurr was and can still be a GOOD PLAYER, we all know jon beswetherick was poo poo, who only actually played 11 times for us. All the players you named there were old and past it, and funnily enough got us relegated which defeats the point you are arguing.

Maybe Megson isn't playing him because Tommy is a player who thrives on confidence and is not high on confidence. Before you reply saying 'spurr is poo poo always will' etc, no player becomes a bad player overnight, confidence plays a HUGE part in football.

Tommy started off with promise and his raw enthusiasm shone through.

He also scored some cracking goals for us (Plymouth at home stands out) and he does have a decent final delivery - occasionally.

The problem is that he has no positional sense or awareness of what's going on around him.

As soon as competent managers found this out, all the opposing teams attack focus on our left back spot.

Look how many times we got caught out last year - Palace at home (Ambrose) the prime example.

Yes we would all like the academy guys to come good, but we're in league one ffs - the time for sentiment has gone.

Thank Tommy and good luck with your future career.
