Bluesteel
After most of our home games recently, we keep hearing how the team really starts well for say 15-20 minutes where we look confident and look to take the initiative. Why do we only seem to keep this up for 20 minutes or so? Is it that initial boost from the crowd before the game that dissapears and we get nervy? As said in another thread the crowd today seemed to discourage our players from taking a patient approach. Regardless though, its strange that we go for it early doors and then we only re-create it again in spasms throughout the game.

agentwalker
there's taking the patient approach and there's taking the wee wee. Numerous times Teal was on down the wing and Spur went back to Buxton, or it went to the Crab. we really missed Coke today.
trask43
I think its just something alan says in hope of tricking people into thinking that we played well at some point in the match. I remember our keeper having to make a good save in the first 20 mins I dont remember theirs. I think we had a decent 5 mins after half time that was it today. Bluesteel
But we need to be able to play like we do at the start, in order to have a better chance of finishing

It probably isnt as relevant today, but many of our home games this season weve started reasonably well, looking as if were working our way into the game then we stop. As Agentwalker says, we really missed Coke in the middle, he can take a game by the scruff of the neck and make things happen...at the very least if he isnt confident he covers ground rather than the horrible pairing of JOC and Potter. I dont think either of them are bad players (potter is only effective in a confident team) but they dont work together its painfully obvious to everyone other than AI. Jones, Miller, JoC and Teale wouldnt have been a bad shout today, or even Tudgay and Teale on the wings with Mellor and Morrison up front.
Guest We'll be back
Indeed we started well, we had a good chance one on one with the keeper, before Teale blazed wide. Then they found their stride and we struggled. But we got 3 points so who cares :)
i used to be sc_owl
Is it that we start well? Or is it that teams know if they soak up the pressure for the first 20 minutes we get a bit restless?
Guest
It's not how you start, it's how you finish. ive played at a decent standard of football and that's not true, set off in a positive mindset and on the front foot and you'll carry it all through the game, its harder to raise the tempo after a lethargic start. dorian gray
we need two up front, we need tudgay on one of the flanks, we need potter showing people to their seats, and we need o'conner selling programmes out side the ground...(a suitable task for a small boy) Edited October 10, 2010 by dnhc

dorian gray
He needs to have some bottle, looked nesh and nervious. you could be talking about any number of our players there... it's because they are tied by irvines dogmatic tactics, and yelled at by the crowd...they are torn between 2 places...dammed if they do, and dammed if they don't....so they end up doing neither well. Whilst its frustrating to watch at times, I can't remember L Orient having a shot on goal in the second half. Weaver had a quiet half.

SheffieldGraduate
They had one cleared off the line and Weaver saved one that was blasted down his throat by Chorley Yesterday for me highlighted the fact that we still have players who are not good enough. However, we had players are beginning to make impact - Morrison is getting better and working harder Teal was great from start to finish Mellor what a signing Weaver better than Grant Yesterday - defensively Buxton looked nervous in first half but got better - so will be a good squad member - utility player Spurr - struggled yesterday but will be okay - will need to be at his best - thought we missed Jones Purse strong attacking the ball but not good enough Potter more impressive yesterday but still lacking something OConner below is own standards but will be a good squad play - Coke and Miller will get us promoted I do feel that Irvine is beginning to understand who can do what and his best side. We are games undefeated and 5th how bad is this league Edited October 10, 2010 by SheffieldGraduate

Guest pac-man
Don't think we every got started yesterday. To many loose passes mainly from joc. I thought we were looking for that killer ball all the time either to a wide man or the front men which never seems to happen. Then this makes us sit deeper and deeper as the second half progressed. Passing backwards instead of forwards so we dont lose the ball. The defence looked static at certain times. That's why they were able to create so many chances. On our attack we look to nervous to shoot and when we are in a decent position we don't work the keeper as we shoot wide. Think we need to take a step back and work on the basics. We are games undefeated and 5th how bad is this league We are unbeaten in 2 league games so let's not get bloody carried away, we're 3points off 17th. We've took 6 points out of a possible 18, not good enough in this league if we realisticly want automatic. Looked very shaky against orient and were lucky to win, same against a league 2 chesterfield side, and the first half against notts county we should of been losing. And as for your views on some players buxton, potter, spurr are blatantly unbelievably not good enough, it's depressingly obvious and it doesn't help having one of the most negative and uninspiring managers of all time in charge.
