Here's some feedback for Alberta on equivalencies of qualifications

Thank you for your inquiry to the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS). IQAS was established by the Alberta Government to help individuals obtain recognition for the education they received outside of Canada for employment, post-secondary education, and professional licensing purposes. You can find out more about IQAS at our website www.immigration.alberta.ca/iqas. On our website you will find information on the assessments we do, fees, required documents, printable application forms, etc.

Although IQAS could assess any formal academic education such a secondary school (A or O levels) and post secondary education, we do not assess trade related occupations such as electricians. However, I have two resources that may be able to assist your friend.

This first is a document outlining the process for becoming a licensed electrician in Alberta.

http://www.albertacanada.com/immigration/media/WIA_electrician.pdf

This PDF is located on the Immigrate to Alberta website which provides in depth information on all aspects of immigrating to Alberta. http://www.albertacanada.com/immigration/working/regulatedtrades.html

The second resource is the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training website which is the department of the government that deals with trade related occupations.

http://www.tradesecrets.gov.ab.ca/

I hope this information is helpful in assisting your friend understand the process of becoming licensed in his profession in Alberta.

If you have any further questions please let me know.

Kind regards,

Tiffany
