Our first: Chris Woods / August 1991 / £1.2 million

Our last (not sure about this): Wim Jonk / 1998 / £2.5 million

Our next: ..... ?????

WE CANNOT EVEN PAY WHAT WE DID NEARLY 20 YEARS AGO FOR A PLAYER.

That is very, very depressing.

sorry, the topic was meant to be titled "£million signings".

*gets coat*

Sibon (£2m) and De Bilde (£3m) were in summer of 99 weren't they?

Kuqi was said to be up to £1m, but in reality was probably much lower than that (I hope!)

I read Kuqi was £750k - £1m.

Yeah Sibon was £2m 1999.

De Bilde was at the same time for £3m.

So - no £million signings in the first decade of this millenium?

Carbone and Di Canio yes - Sinton was a flop by and large, and Booth only had one decent season really.

Oh

Thought that we are looking back at who we signed for over 1m down the years...

But how many of our £million+ signings have proved to be successful?

You can have all the money in the world but you cannot guarantee success.

Money isn't necessarily the answer.

As they in panto land

' Oh Yes it is'

Even when we spent 1m plus we were still playing at it. we were never in the big boys league regarding transfers.

Money is the one constant in successful football clubs.

Didn't we offer £3m+ for shearer when he went for a record £3.3m to Blackburn?

Also, I'm pretty sure Hirsty was one of the best paid players in the country when he signed a new contract after Man Utd were knocked back.

£2.7m for Walker and Sinton was big money at the time.

Over £1m for Waddle who was almost 31 was also one of the highest fees paid by an English club for someone of that age.
