dorian gray
did i see that the pl chairmen have agreed that relegated sides should have a large increase in parachute money?. Maybe if they fail to get in the top 2 positions and only make the play-offs they should have a 3 goal start as well. They are maneuvering the 2 leagues into a position where only a miracle will promote any championship side, and the relegated sides will go straight back up every time, i wonder how long it will take to kill the championship off all together as a competition (true the balance is out at the moment, and needs addressing, but it's in the other direction, promotion after relegation is now very likely, looks as though they want to rule out any chance of a hiccup occuring), as for us, and sides like us, is our only hope to finish as high as possible in the championship, hoping that one day we may sneek a play off place. Surely anyone thinking of investing any money in a championship side must be having a rethink (as their £10, 15, or 20 million has just been wiped off) after this
BigTavowl
It should be re-named the trampoline payment not a parachute payment
camffiti
Maybe they should just extend the Prem to 23 teams?

Howard Mosley
4 years is a rumbleing joke. and i believe the 1st two years are increased from 11m to 16m per year and then another 2 years at 8m per year. going to be impossible to get out of the championship for anyone without these payments or massive investment:angry: Edited April 19, 2010 by Howard Mosley
Wednesday-Wonderland
They're just trying to make it more of a closed shop, and it's so accepted these days that they're not even bothering to be sneaky about it. Blatant, blatant death of football.
damianb1
IMHO all if this is put to the vote then they will all vote for it as not to vote for it would be like turkeys voting for christmas. UTO & WTID
RUMBELOWS91
I wonder if this is because the 3 clubs about to go down are f*cked and it would look pretty poo for the EPL if they all ended up in admin.

KivoOwl
This pretty much kills off any hopes we have of ever returning to the top flight.
Guest utOwlz
Cant the Football league clubs do anything about this? 4 years is a flipping joke! If they cant survive and sort their finances out within 2years payments of £12m then they deserve to go into admin

Claudio Tankisco
And the Premier League clubs competing in Europe wonder why UEFA and FIFA are conspiring so that any English team won't get very far in European competitions?
HarrowbyOwl
Football League have to approve it - best thing I can suggest is send a constructive letter (preferably not e-mail) http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/CustomerCharterDetail/0,,10794,00.html Payments are already due to be increased from £12m to £16m for two seasons from this summer. The proposed changes would give relegated clubs a further £8m for the following two seasons. The changes are part of a package that will include 'solidarity payments' from the Premiership to Football League clubs. Money to Championship clubs varies depending on how many are in receipt of parachute payments - those that make an instant return to the Premier League no longer receive them and the money is distributed across the rest of the Championship depending on where they finish in the league table. If £42m is available to a relegated club over 4 seasons and they get re-promoted after 1 season it would leave £26m available for distribution to the rest. You have to think that with £16m available in the first season for a relegated club their chance of re-promotion increases, thereby increasing the likelihood that the unused payments will get paid out to the others in the following season. If the three relegated clubs got re-promoted that would leave £78m for re-distribution, an average £3.25m per club and actually considerably more for those that finish higher in the table. That, added to a sweetener of improved solidarity payments, may be a lifeline that a lot of Chamionship clubs will find hard to turn down.
Strewthbury Owl
whilst confining those same championship clubs to an endless battle against overwhelming financial power and condemning them to a life time of 2nd division obscurity (or worse)? Its farcical. The authorities should be pushing more for clubs to sort themselves out and make contingency plans than to give them a satin cushion to fall on.
