Playing budget next season

Recommended Posts

We are crying out for a hero - one player who will get everyone off their backsides to want to watch.

One of the biggest problems for the last decade or so is that we haven't had someone who really inspires us all - Brunt had the makings and then was sold, but before that you have to go back to someone like Di Canio.

A hero needn't be expensive - but can be spotted by an eagle eyed manager - such as Terry Curran - and a hero can be relative to the league you're playing in.

We're long overdue one.

Agree with you on the need for a hero in the team.

We are in desperate need of a proper out and out striker though. A goal poacher. Someone who will do nothing but lead the line and score goals.

For far too long we've had forwards who seem to have made other parts of their game a priority over being a goalscorer.

I agree and think that to most people, a hero would indeed be a goalscorer - I know Macca got 20 goals in League 1 and was a decent player at that level, but we need someone who also offers the promise of doing it at a higher level.

Part of the malaise amongst the fans is that we've not truly been inspired by a striker for ages - the type of player whose name everyone wants on their shirts, who captures the imagination of our young supporters and gives them bragging rights at school, even if the team is mid-table or consolidating....

It always seems that other clubs- even the unfashionable ones - have this but not us so why have we had to miss out on this for so long?

Signing or developing a player like this who we can call our own, who is not on loan or who is not a crock could be a great catalyst for this club.

fair posts daz. you're definitely in quality form of late!

re: the playing budget. surely anything that's even slightly larger to what we've had this season, then on top of that taking into account the players whose contracts could be terminated should see us in a good position - providing that we do indeed have a manager who can indeed invest it appropriately.

Couldn't agree more.
