sjtheowl
What on earth is it with Wednesday under the Irvine regime? There seems to be a consicous decision to not close down opponents and let the opponents run with the ball for extended periods of time on the pitch. Our players just stand off and back track instead of getting a challenge in to pressure the opponent and win the ball back. And its really beginning to cost us. Today, McDonald picked the ball up around halfway, ran without one challenge on him, shot and scored. The same has happened against Ipswich at home, twice at Reading, at West Brom and was a contibuter to Donny's second goal at Hillsborough. Get it sorted Irvine! Guest Sheff Owl
That's exactly what happen when Maynard scored for Bristol City he had 4 players around him not one of them put a foot in. It's been the same all season we stand off players, let them bring the ball down, control it, decide what he want's to do, pass it or even worse get the cross in, it's shocking. It's basic football try and stop the crosses, what do we do? stand 5 yards away and let them do what they want. We don't win 50/50 balls, we get bullied of the ball, we give too much respect to opposition. Even Clarke for a big lad gets knocked of the ball, its unbelivable. i used to be sc_owl
At the Bristol match I didn't have a great view of the goal, being 10 rows or so back on the Kop. Saw it on tv today for the first time and was bloody fuming! Couldn't believe he just walked through that many defenders.

Swifty75
Yesterday when we were 1-0 down with 5 minutes to go we stood off them and let they play keep ball. Tom Soares would get to about 5 yeards from a Boro player stand off him and hope he passed it. In fact for all the James O'Conner is a limited footballer at least the lad chases and gets stuck in. To me it felt like a number of the lads were kind of saying to themselves 'ah well a 1-0 defeat away at Boro is not a bad result is it'.
