Eastern
Why is it so unbelievable? I'd imagine Varney is seen as the replacement for Sodje.

mark77
Varney has replaced Sodje (although the Varney money came from the backroom team going) We also have Clarke and Jeffers plus people are forgetting JJ can play up front (and does a better job than most) so we have plenty of options with 5 strikers. The Manager will use these funds to strengthen the left hand side and left back. Makes sense to me. Edited February 1, 2010 by mark77
tilIdie
Just proves how poo Franny is no one wants him so sod knows how we are going to get rid of him, talk about easy money. Sits on his arse doing nothing and just laughs while he gets paid shed loads of money

Yep - if we do have any cash to bring someone in, the LB/LM/RM positions are all higher priorities than getting another striker in, I'd say. Even with everyone fit, if AI's first choice strikeforce is Tudgay and JJ, that leaves us with no specialist right-winger, just a choice of EE/Gray/Varney/Soares, all out of position. Getting a versatile left-sided player in as cover/kickupthearse for Spurr and Gray would make sense too (like that Zimbabwean lad - Terrya Henfleetu, or whatever he's called)... Glaser
not happy at all about this Would much rather have kept Sodje than Clarke or Jeffers He offers something different to all of our other strikers. Clarke does not put himself about enough, Tudgay blows hot and cold, Varney has one good game every 5 and Jeffers is a complete write off Surely we must have got a fee ? Or all of his wages paid, as it just doesn't make sense otherwise

I suspect Charlton have offered him a deal at the end of the season and we've agreed he can go, we get a loan fee and his wages paid He had a very good spell for us once but injuries have taken their toll, he'll hopefully do well for himself but it was the right time to move him on

Or all of his wages paid, as it just doesn't make sense otherwise Sodje puts himself about, I'll give you that- but he normally ends up injured. When was the last time Sodje blew hot? He's cack. He hasn't had a good game since Burnley last season. I'd put him in a similar category that you have named Jeffers. A write off, but one that we have been hoping will come good for a while now. At least Clarke and Varney have the occasional good game- they are twice as good as the Sodje. I thank him for the goals he's scored in that little run he had 3 seasons ago, as well as the goal against the pigs. But the time was right for him to go. igm1
we do It's called Leon At least he has scored since last season. Are you honestly telling me you would rather Clarke had left than Sodje? Edited February 1, 2010 by igm1

Glaser
At least he has scored since last season. Are you honestly telling me you would rather Clarke had left than Sodje? In my opinion, yes. I think Clarke is a very poor championship striker, with very little technique and finishing ability. He is also poor in the air for his size and does not put himself about, or use his frame. I'd have liked to have seen Clarke and Jeffers replaced
TheGodfather
I do find it strange that the same folk who want Jeffers as far away from this Club as possible because of his injury record seem happy with the notion of giving Sodje another chance and another contract.
