Question about Brian Laws

In addition to the surprise and (mainly) disappointment, there's been a bit of debate as to the sort of football Laws tries to play. We've gotten used to some good passing stuff under Coyle and we're hoping Laws will try and carry that on.

In your experience, is he a long ball or on the deck manager (or something inbetween)?

Thanks

He plays a sort of baffling, tacticless style of football designed to confuse the opposition.

It's very fluid. Watch out for his substitutions, and interesting choice of signing.

Don't give him any money to spend or you will regret it.

Apart from that, he's brilliant.

He's a tactically very competent manager with several varied styles of play that he will always alter if they aren't working. His substitutions are adept and he is very even-minded, treating all of the squad equally. You have nothing to fear.

These lawyers that watch the sight, they don't care if I mislead people do they?

In our pomp under Laws we played some cracking football.

I'd say our biggest weakness under Laws was actually that we didn't have a Plan B when the passing game was neutralised by teams playing 'ugly', pressing football. We became very easy to play against when teams worked out we only had one way of playing...even if that one way was quite easy on the eye.

You'll have a job finding out on here.

Brian Laws doesn't even know which brand of football he likes his team to play.

Excluding this season as Ive barely seen anything, I think he has tried to get the team passing. Maybe not like the best passing teams in this div, but we never had the best players. I would dispute that he is a long ball specialist.

He likes fast paced passing football with alot of hustling and pressing of the opposition.

That was what we were playing last season. This season we started finding some lovely 'total' football in spells, but big errors in the transfer market have undone his work. His choice of signings has been pretty woeful on the whole...but then again we aint got a pot to wee wee in.

You'll love him at Burnley, he's a great bloke, but he has no plan B, Wilcox has no idea, he gets zero respect from the players (RW) due to this.

Year 1 he loves the fans, says what you want to hear

Year 2 you start to see teams have sust the tactic (plan A)

Year 3 left with a load of less than average players with zero confidence.

Laws will try and play a passing game, but he will play your players out of position, his substitutions will be baffling and ineffective, he wont have a plan B to change a game when you really need him to.

He's a nice bloke but im glad he's not holding the purse strings if we finally get investment, i wouldnt trust him to buy any players after the rubbish he's left us with.

This.

In a division where half the teams are physical, long ball teams and most of the rest are better passers than ourselves we became very easy to play against.

I think you'll be pleased with the way your team will be playing....Until your defenders forget what they were told by your previous manager. Then conceding corners will be as good as scoring own goals

Opinion on Brian Laws on here you'll will give the impression of Marmite Man.

Watch out for his patter as he's a master of his own PR. I notice he started already with his interview on the Burnley Website with,

"I have had an affinity with this Club for a long".

For a proud, traditional club like Burnley I hope he does well for you but I feel he won't.

Read this that should tell you enough. He likes to play a 4/4/2 and to keep it on the deck wherever possible. Away from home we tended to really struggle under Laws. He has left us in a worse position than when we signed him. I'm amazed he has been given a Premier League job. Good luck you're going to need it.

If you had asked that question on here at the beggining of the season you would have got completely different answers to the ones you are getting now, as it was generally considered he was doing as good a job as could be expected.

A nice guy who at times got us playing some good stuff as long as other teams allowed us to play, and did not push up on us

Personally i think his tactics could be somewhat baffling, playing players out of position ect, and his substitutions even more so. In the end with us in free fall and with the loss of the support of the fans our parting had to come.

Hope he does well for you and will be interested in the quality of player he now tries to sign with a bit of money available.

He tries to play passing football, though there have been times (e.g. his second season when the off-field stuff was really kicking off and he had to sell Bougherra, Brunt & Whelan) when we've played a rather dour style for the sake of results.

This season he tried to play a more expansive passing game. In patches we've looked excellent, but a defence full of holes has undermined the plan. For some reason he seemed unable/unwilling to change the style this time around and ultimately it cost him his job.

He also likes playing people out of position for some reason - wingers on the wrong side, centre-backs at full-back, strikers on the wing. Just don't ask us to explain why coz we could never figure it out.

So, he'll probably try and keep you playing the same way. I can't imagine him being able to improve your away form or defensive record though since they were our achilles heels for most of his tenure.

Good luck, you're gonna need it. Laws is a nice bloke and I wish him well, but it really is a joke of an appointment. If we can pull out of the nosedive he left us in I'm afraid we'll see you next year.
