swintonowl
I just feel I'm missing a few tricks to save some money on rail travel . Anyone got any tips ?UTOHere are a few things to try....1) Book in advance - You can usually book 3 months ahead and get cheaper tickets2) Take a kid with you - Get a family railcard and get 1/3 off for up to 4 adults and 2/3 off for up to 4 kids.3) Split your journeys up into multiple tickets (e.g. Instead of booking Sheffield to Birmingham, book Sheffield - Derby and Derby - Birmingham) this can save you about 40% depending on your journey and you still take the same trains (you dont need to get off in Derby)4) Hide in the toilet :-)

Guest AH1991
Get a job with a passenger train operating company Buy advance singles each way at least 2-3 weeks before your journey. My mate bought his online and they didn't come so make sure you buy from sheffield station and ask for advance singles.
