Home fans pay on the day for Barnsley match

Season opener no longer ‘all ticket’ for home supporters

Sheffield Wednesday is pleased to confirm that home supporters will be able to pay at turnstiles on matchday for Saturday’s season opener against Barnsley.

Following feedback from fans, Sheffield Wednesday will now give our supporters the opportunity to buy tickets on the matchday from Hillsborough.

The club previously announced this fixture would be ‘all ticket’ but following a high level of advance ticket sales we have concluded that the impact of a large walk-up has reduced and, in conjunction with the Safety Advisory Group, have decided that the match will NOT be all ticket for home fans (although this arrangement will still be in place away fans).

To achieve this the club will hold back 1,000 places in The Kop, 1,000 seats in the Grandstand and a further 500 in the South Stand for matchday only sales. Only 300 tickets were remaining on the North Stand as of 5pm on Wednesday (August 5).

We urge supporters to buy tickets in advance however to ensure the best seats possible and to avoid queuing on Saturday. Don’t forget that buying tickets online and printing at home saves you money and minimises the likelihood of queuing on matchday – go to http://www.swfc.co.uk/tickets

It is advisable to arrive at the match early to ensure easy access to the stadium. Supporters who arrive at Hillsborough before 2pm for the Barnsley game will be entitled to a free Beres pie or fruit bag.

Sheffield Wednesday will also be using access control on the club’s turnstiles, accompanying our new ticketing systems on Saturday, so we urge fans to bear with us while these systems are used in earnest for the first time following a successful trial at the pre-season encounter with Blackburn Rovers.

Supporters who bought season tickets before July 28 and have not yet received them in the post yet are advised that season cards can be processed at the Megastore. We urge the small number of fans who may be in this position to come down to Hillsborough ahead of the matchday – the Megastore is open until 7pm on Thursday as usual.
