  1. Lets not get confused here. There is a subtle difference between being a supporter of a team and being a fan of a team. People can be a supporter of one team and a fan of another, as I believe I am. Being a FAN of a team means, IMO, enjoying watching them on TV and being pleasantly pleased when they win. As I am when watching Barca or Real Madrid (sometimes Man. U or Chelsea if they are playing in a European competition). But not being absolutely gutted if they lose. Being a true SUPPORTER means that if your team lose you don't want to talk to the wife 'till tomorrow, and if the cat comes anywhere near you it risks getting a kicking. Being a SUPPORTER of a team means SUPPORTING the team. This means putting money into the club, whether it is through paying to attend as many occasional games as you can afford, having a season ticket, buying club lottery or raffle tickets or spending money in the club shop. You don't SUPPORT a club by saying you are a fan. Looking at it this way I can't believe that very many people actually SUPPORT more than one club. I know I don't. The only team that has a share of my hard earned money (and I hope the wife never finds out how much) is the mighty OWLS !!!
  2. I find it quite easy to support lots of teams. Owls first and always plus all 23 teams who will play against the pigs next season. Oh! and anyone else they may play in the cup competitions.
  3. Could certainly do a lot worse than Afobe IMO. 10 goals in 22 games for MK Dons + 13 goals in 21 games for Wolves in Championship last season. 23 goals from 43 games in all competitions doesn't look to shabby to me.
  4. Are glory hunters always people just deciding to support any club in the country who are successful. IMO there are worse examples than these who decide to follow a club at the other end of the country instead of a more local club. A few years ago I worked with a fanatical pig fan (you know the type - not been to the Lane for years, reads the Star, listens to RS wears a 10 year old blades shirt and regards himself a true supporter). When the piggies attained promotion to the Premiership he appeared one day showing every one his newly bought season ticket. When I sneeringly asked why he had suddenly decided to actually pay to go and watch his heroes his reply was "Well you've got to have a season ticket when you will be watching the likes of Manchester Utd, Arsenal, Liverpool, And Chelsea haven't you. My reply - Noooooo. I've been buying my season ticket for the last 40 odd years to watch the WEDNESDAY !!!! Needless to say he has never bought another ticket since.
  5. Can't really understand the outcry about the prices of the executive boxes for next season. Judging from the comments criticising the second phase price of season tickets I very much doubt that many Owlstalk posters were considering taking a box next season anyway. Of course this is Owlstalk isn't it ? Never miss an opportunity to find something else to complain about even though it doesn't affect the vast majority of ordinary fans.
  6. A six figure fee covers a lot of ground doesn't it. Anywhere between £100,000 and £999,999. Around £500,000 / £600,000 Would be a fair price IMO but think we could do better if asking price is approaching £1m or more.
  7. Two days with nothing happening at all ! FFS what's Chansiri thinking about letting 'em have Sundays and Bank holidays off. Bet it wouldn't happen in Thailand.
  8. Would like to see Mcgugan sign but won't be too upset if it doesn't happen. There are other midfielders of similar (or perhaps better) ability who will be available in the summer. Not sure if the change of manager at Watford has too much bearing on his future. Maybe he is having second thoughts himself about a move as I would imagine that all contracted players at Watford will have a clause in their contract promising substantial pay increases on promotion to the Prem.
  9. No the blue stripes are not going to be thinner. The white stripes are just going to be wider.
  10. BTB says "Get yourself into a taxi Evans, and come straight to the Lane" Well it would have to be at least a mini-bus, but I'll pay the fare for him. The most despicable, odious manager in league football in charge of the Snortbeasts - definitely a match made in heaven. BRING IT ON !!!!!
  11. Being a relative newcomer to Owlstalk I'll apologise in advance if this has been suggested before. How about a song based on the Mamma's & the Papa's " Monday Monday " Obviously the first line is "Wednesday Wednesday" and now I'll leave the rest of the lyrics to you song writers and poets out there 'cos I'm cr@p at anything like that. Just thought it would be a pretty unique football song as no other club has an appropriate name
  12. Yea, Come on Watford! Light your bonfire - We'll PI$$ on it !!!!
  13. Well I was brought up watching the Owls in the 50's wearing hooped socks and black shorts but think they're rubbish. Plain socks (Blue or White) and royal blue shorts for me! Didn't like the white shorts we wore a couple of times tho'
  14. The referee's a W*nker !!! I'd had a fiver on 2 - 1 to us.
  15. It was at first. It's well past it's sell by date now!
  16. He will never go away, nor would I want him to. I'm glad he is ready, willing and able to return. But FFS please stop telling us about it !
  17. Ah Summer. FFS I'm bored already - Roll on next season !!!
  18. I was just as gutted as anyone else when MM sacked Gary but surely its time to end this thread now. No matter how many posts appear on Owlstalk on this subject it will have no effect on who the next manager will be. I'm sure it can't be healthy to become as obsessed as some people are with this subject can it? 50 of the last 100 posts are shared between just 4 posters. (Suppose it shows what a sad old git I must be to take the trouble to count 'em, dun't it?) But enough's enough. END IT NOW Please
  19. Been looking at the links posted on Owlstalk to Blades Mad. What's the significance of North Korea relating to SWFC. I presume it's a desperate attempt to make fun of Mr Chansiri. Don't they know that North Korea is almost 2,500 miles from Thailand - that's about the same distance as from Sheffield to Canada. Oh! hang about a minute - Of course they don't know, they're all as thick as pig-shyte. You've got to feel sorry for DEM BLADES tho' . They're having a bad day today.
  20. Well Geedee, How do you break a minutes applause ? By not clapping and remaining silent for a minute ? (Not trying to be smart - just joking)
  21. I think Craig is just trying to scare everybody into avoiding Hillsborough Corner so that he can have a quiet pint in Wetherspoons and a steady stroll from there to the match' Won't work Craig. Nobody has ever had a QUIET pint in Wetherspoons (or any other pub in HC on a match day). Just forget it, and if these silly rumours frighten you stay safe at home. Won't keep me and family away though. Come on you Owls - W A W A W.
  22. Hi Mick! I don't know why it annoys the toytowners that you insist that you come from Rawmarsh not Rovrum either. Used to know an old guy in our local WMC (no longer with us unfortunately) who lived in Crookes for many years. Never called himself a Sheffielder, never said he came from Rovrum. Was always proud to say he came from RAWMISH.
  23. Brian the Miller tho' Just like listening to Blobby Evans. I'm beginning to believe that they are the same person. If not then Fatty is obviously writing his scripts for him. Millwall won't win another game ! Wigan won't win another game ! But Rovrum will batter Norwich ! You just couldn't make it up could you.
  24. No pay on day at turn-styles but tickets available on Saturday in ticket office and on-line provided you have been on Owls data base since beginning of March this year. Every chance of crowd approaching 30,000, already sold 25,000 tickets according to Owls website.
