  1. Type of athletic midfielder we have lacked for some time. Best yet to come. Our future. Played well last night and confirmed much of what I thought about him. Not sure about 6th choice. Give him a season and he'll be 1st choice with what we currently have. That said, it's not simply a matter of choice as each midfield player brings different qualities.
  2. We missed a trick with Alex Neil and Mark Warburton and said so before they were snapped by Sunderland and West Ham respectively. Who now? Good question. What I am pretty certain of is DM won't do the job as in get us promoted and I agree with Giovanni.
  3. 0:20 to 1:14 eight "at the moments". At the moment that's the most "at the moments" I've ever heard but only......at the moment. Lord help us.
  4. Great point. Our manager in his infinite wisdom decided to leave our only naturally left sided centre half out. Add to the fact if Storey, Dean, Luongo and BPF from last season had played Saturday we would have won that game. Apparently we are stronger though according to some? We really aren't and same old from our manager.
  5. As many have rightly said already Moore seems a really likeable guy and we all want him to succeed. Sadly it’s looking increasingly likely he will not fulfil his remit namely promotion with reportedly the biggest wage budget in the league. Anything other than promotion this season is abject failure. I thought it last season and increasingly think a capable manager would romp this league with us. I genuinely think we missed a trick last season with Alex Neil and said it at the time and also Mark Warburton. Both with promotions on their CV unlike Moore. Neil sussed Sunderland out in 18 games whereas Moore always seems one step beyond and takes too long to either identify or solve a problem. I think DC as to act sooner rather than later otherwise come May we will be lamenting wasting two years under Moore and the prospect of a third season in the third tier. I hope I’m wrong.
  6. I couldn’t agree more. I put a post on a while ago that highlighted how we showed Champions form with Luongo and not even play off form without Luongo last season. I think generally his loss is being massively underestimated by large sections of our fanbase. We’ve made some decent signings and Smith in particular but we’ve lost our two most important players in Luongo and Storey. A 28-year-old Jose Semedo would do nicely.
  7. I think the more accurate barometer of progress is comparing and contrasting to the team/squad on the last game of last season and not the first. We should have improved on the start of last season given how DC has backed Moore so you’d expect nothing else. I’m not convinced we are much stronger if at all now than in May if you do a direct comparison with who are no longer with us and who have been brought in. Stockdale for BPF? Not an upgrade for me. Sure, Stockdale is more experienced and the nature of being a relatively young keeper BPF was prone to the odd rick. That said BPF is young and will get better whereas Stockdale is going one way. Like for like at best. Heneghan and Ihiekwe for Storey and Dean? Two lads steady signings although Heneghan has just played in a relegated side. Storey and Dean both at Championship clubs. Storey along with another loss I’ll touch on next was one of the major catalysts in the good run in the last third of the season. Again, have we upgraded? If anything I’d say we are slightly worse off. Voulkes for Luongo? Whilst Voiulkes is a good player in his own right and without contradicting my previous point was a Championship player last season. For the type we need in midfield is he better than Luongo? Again, I’d suggest not. We NEED a Luongo type and stats clearly indicate Luongo was our most important player last season. We have something different and Voilkes is a good player as I say but not an improvement on Luongo in terms of breaking play up, protecting back 3 and allowing others more freedom. Different yes. Better, not convinced at all. Smith for Kamberi/Paterson. This is a huge positive. Smith should be the best type of foil for Gregory. By far and away the best signing so far this summer in my opinion. The type of forward we clearly need and really happy with this one. This is where we clearly have improved. I think the question is this. Does signing Smith make up for other 3 areas overall where we haven’t improved? I’m not sure. I think the loss of Storey and Luongo is, generally speaking, being underestimated. Assuming we continue to go through Bannan too much (another debate) who is 33 in December and our main striker Gregory who is 34 in August that’s two players you would assume have a year maybe two more years at very best at last seasons levels. Steady signings made especially Smith and great to get them in early. We may see some activity quickly now July is upon us and I think the ins and outs between now and season start will obviously give us a better induction. For now I’d say it’s been OK at best but let’s not get carried away. Either way nothing less than promotion ideally in top two is nothing less than abject failure.
  8. Yep, he’s been known to attend the odd game. Be going to MK Dons with him.
  9. Not the only Wednesday fan to work the table at elite level snooker events.
  10. Generalising here but having been in the inner sanctum of both clubs during my life I do think there is a tangible difference in the attitudes of both set of fans in day to day life. Of course it’s rivalry as rightly pointed out but from my experience it’s a bit more deep rooted and hatred filled with them. I find with us it’s a p take and ridicule which in turn fuels their hatred. Don’t get me wrong on derby day and when they fail we give as good as we get, at least. I do think the main difference is Wednesday being the older club and recognised a the bigger club which induces something a kin to a little brother syndrome with them. Personally I love seeing them fail and hate every season we are below them. Rivalry. Some of the venom from some of them though is hilarious so fk em. Like I say I’m generalising and purely taken from my own experiences which is all anyone can do.
  11. I fully appreciate I made the reference to BB in what is a Luongo thread. I think it's all about value for money. With what reportedly both players are on one clearly is value for money. It's highly debateable if the other one is. I'd say not and judging by the complete lack of tangible bids for him so do other clubs. I digress. Luongo is a huge loss. Without ML last season in 46 game league season W 8 D 8 L 5 PTS 32 over a season that's 69 PTS and we'd have finished 11th With ML W 16 D 5 L 4 PTS 53 over a season that's 97 PTS and we'd have been Champions by 5 clear points Make of that what you will.
  12. Fair comment. Commensurate indeed. Couldn't agree more and not just in Luongo's case.
  13. I could say the same about our disproportionately highest paid player too. I wouldn't say it about Luongo however who made us a completely different animal more than any other player in the squad. Massive loss this.
  14. Huge blow. Our most important player, as results suggest. Luongo and Vaulks could have played together in 3rd tier of English football with the qualities required to get out of it.
  15. Bristol City interested Outside chance of going to World Cup in November with Australia
  16. Exactly mate. That's what I was trying to do but others appear not. As I say by far and away my primary point was about football and nothing else.
  17. Well it was but you make of it what you will but I'm best qualified to know what my comment was meant as. As for addressing CB issue, it's still not resolved as Storey and Dean are no longer at the club and it should have been addressed last August not last January. It took Alex Neil 18 games to sort Sunderland and here we are nearly 18 months on with Moore.
  18. The irony of that is....I'm not making an issue out of it but you clearly are and are drawing far more attention to it than anything I intended by it. I'm not the only Wednesday fan but to make a light hearted reference to it. My primary point was how DM hasn't addressed our CB problem and made huge selection mistakes that cost us dearly last season and made reference to them. For the record I couldn't care less how anybody speaks and if my early comment real upsets the likes of yourself so much I'll refrain in future. Sadly, I'll have enough to criticise a manager we are going nowhere with. Hope that helps.
  19. Oh sorry treacle, bit touchy aren't you? I tell you what is pathetic, playing said players in said positions and conceding a higher than average volume of goals from set pieces last season.
  20. What like left wing back Marvin Johnson and full back/wing back Liam Palmer? Pigs had Wilder then and we have erm erm Darren Moore!
  21. I hope someone takes out some serious retribution on the pitch like this piece of sh** gave the poor cat. The punishment doesn't even come near to fitting the crime in my view.
  22. I’ve not encountered any Wednesday fan that doesn’t think Bannan is a good player. He clearly is, he has great attitude, always puts in a shift and seems a nice guy. Him being a good player or not eally isn’t the question or the issue. As some have already pointed in the past few years our ethos of playing through him has been synonymous with abject failure. Of coursd that isn’t all down to Bannan but it’s a fact nonetheless. Add to the fact he’s our biggest earner by some distance apparently you have to ask is he value for money? Carlton Palmer recently pointed out no one would pay the reported £27k a week he is on and hence why we haven’t received one tangible bid for him. Personally, I think it’s time for change and have thought it for a while and his huge wage at Lge 1 level could be utilised better in making the whole squad stronger. Bannan is also 33 in December and the high energy game he plays can’t last for much longer. A different time and different t circumstances but a notable comparison was when Big Ron sold Dalian Atkinson in 1990 and with the funds acquired Williams, Wilson and Harkes making the balance of the team and overall strength oof squad better resulting in promotion and a cup win. Fast forward 2004 when Quinn, Bromby and Geary were allowed to leave and had good careers elsewhere. For us we got promoted the following season with the likes of Wood, Bullen and Whelan. If you believe it’s right to keep a soon to be 33-year-old on a massively disproportionate high wage as our main game plan in sides that have failed hugely in recent years that’s your opinion. Very good player Bannan and be fondly remembered but for me it’s time for a change. If we go up playing through him next season I’ll be delighted and happily eat my words but if not then the evidence and time for change will be overwhelming
  23. Funny how different disappointments effects different people. I’m 50 (username spoiler alert) and have been watching our beloved Wednesday for nearly 44 years. The worst I’ve ever felt was the relegation in 90 and Pigs going up closely followed by FA Cup Final replay in 93. I think that was partly down to been young etc. Recent disappointments like Wembley 16 and last season’s relegation I wasn’t too bad at all. I’m usually extremely pragmatic about normal league game defeats and it tends not bother that much straight after compared to some. Last night though? Straight after the game I felt like I wanted to rip someone’s throat out. Not proud of that but just answering the question. Not felt much better today but the need to kill has subsided….a bit. I think last nights defeat was the manner of it. Losing to a shithouse like Neil and team that reflect him. Utter frustration at having highest wage bill in league and Moore failing but that’s for a different thread. Also, a real fear of repercussions of failing to go up and how it could set us back. Add to that the unthinkable that Pigs could be two divisions higher than us too have all conspired to my current mood. Wish I didn’t care so much sometimes but that’s love for you. UTMO
  24. Great post I was just 8 years old sat on a barrier on the Kop with my old man. Just remember it being a hot day, a dull game and seemed more than 33k there.. We were promoted and that's all that mattered. What a legend Big Jack was. Great memories.
  25. One or two beautiful looking pints in those pics. However, I also spotted a can of Fosters and a pint of Carling! Get tut Lane! Safe trip to all travelling fellow Owls and bring 3 points back.
