  1. Imagine Brian the Blade doing a duet with Tina Turner.
  2. Looking back I always thought Trev was the manager who started our decline, but Pleat was and still is off the planet. He talks a game, not a very good one and as some on here have suggested he failed to manage the better players. 20 years ago we were, for a very brief period, top of the Prem and ended up finishing 7th. At the time I saw it as progress after the lucky escapes from relegation in '95 and '96, but it was just the start of the era where the troubles of the club started to show.
  3. Travelled from Bedford on a train which was so overloaded with Danes that it took us three and a half hours to get into Sheffield. Couldn't get a drink as they had emptied all supplies and had only been on the train from London. Also they couldn't understand why in Burger King they didn't serve Carlsberg as a choice of drink with a meal deal. Saw a 1-1 draw between Denmark and Portugal, great atmosphere and the South Stand had just been done up.
  4. Hinchcliffe and Sinton heralded the beginning of the slide towards the dark times. Both were, I believe record signings for the club in their day.
  5. The end came after the 1995 last day survival where we beat Ipswich 4-1 after falling behind and even Des Walker nearly scored after a magnificent dribble. To be fair Palace had to win away at Newcastle by 3 goals and us lose for us to go down so not quite like the Norwich scenario a few years ago. Francis had lost the dressing room as typified by the Forest drubbing earlier in the season was a nightmare which I think started with a Stuart Pearce free kick and compounded by Ian Woan and Steve Stone. Got back home that night and watched the 'highlights' on match of the day. I think we finished 13th that season and that was it for Trev - he was sacked on cup final day. The decline started at that point and yes we finished 7th in 1997 under Pleat after (unusually) starting well and being top after four games. Other than that Pleat was clueless and what followed.....well here we are folks.
