  1. We're still doing the 'erm' thing? Pathetic.

  2. Only three Championship teams conceded more goals than us as we were relegated the season before last. And yet Tom Lees just played almost every game for the team who finished third in the Championship last season. Sometimes decent players play for bad teams. And sometimes those same players look a lot better when surrounded by better teammates. I'll judge Heneghan on what he does in a Wednesday shirt.

  3. 2 things crystal clear. 1. Parachute payments are completely unfair and are deliberately designed that way by PL clubs 2. The value of our player sales has been pathetic for 20 years and is borne out of continuously ‘investing’ a large proportion of our player budget on loan players and older players that will not grow in value. A lesson that I’m still not sure has been learnt by the Club and certainly hasn’t by a large proportion of the fan base.

  4. Between the likes of Joe Crann, Dom Howson & Alex Miller, it's been reported that David Stockdale and Ben Heneghan have agreed personal terms and will be Wednesday players officiallyby start of training next week. Mallik Wilks is also rumoured to be close to signing, who has previously been on holiday with Josh Windass and has liked/commented on a few of his Instagram posts, because that's how football works. Also keep an eye on who our favourite Club Wildcard, Att Chansiri follows on there, because whoever he seems tro follow seems to come true. It's like he might have some sort of insider knowledge? We also have a cheeky loan bid in for Elliot Anderson, who is apparently the next Maradona. I think you are now up to speed, you're welcome.

  7. What has that got do with mocking a person's manner of speech? It's hardly as if a bloke using filled pauses is anything out of the ordinary, is it? The majority of the population do it every single day. Trying to make an issue of it is pathetic.

  10. Sheffield Wednesday Ladies Football Club (SWLFC) is SWFC's official female representative club at both junior and senior levels. With teams all the way from U9s through to open age (seniors), we provide an opportunity for hundreds of female players to enjoy playing football and benefiting from the social positives that sport can bring. As a volunteer-run and self-sufficient set up based in Sheffield, the club's teams compete in the Sheffield & Hallamshire Girls & Women's County Leagues. One of the club's aims at present is to try and raise the awareness of SWFC fans about SWLFC, what we do and what the club is trying to achieve going forward. The new season, 2022/23, just began from an admin perspective and we'll be using the summer months to get our new squads together ready for our first games in August and September. We'll drop news, results and info into this thread as the season goes on, and we've got some big plans for how we can push SWLFC forward in the coming months. For now, if you want to show your support then a like or follow on our social media channels would be huge as we look to increase our reach and impact on all three platforms: Twitter --> https://twitter.com/ShefWedLadies Facebook --> https://www.facebook.com/SheffWedLadies Instagram --> https://www.instagram.com/swlfc_/ We currently uses the hashtags #OneTeam, #WAWAW and #ProudToBeOwls. We love being part of SWFC and we want to see the club go from strength to strength, no matter which team is playing in the blue and white stripes we all support.

  14. All rule changes are voted on by the teams. With 10-12 teams potentially at risk of going down in any season, they're going to vote for whatever gets them back in the EPL the quickest. There will never be enough votes to change it, especially with Everton this year as it could happen to any of them.

  17. Surely we're not criticising the kit release already? I've barely seen any kits for next season released. Relax a little. We have Macron so I'm assuming they're a bit more organised than our in-house efforts and we'll have it shortly.

  18. Only 3 clubs in our league have new kits available to pre order so far. Plenty of time for us to get ours out before the season starts. Would be better if clubs released kits at the start of summer though.

  19. Our recruitment and analytic team have obviously targeted a weakness in our squad and gone out and hired a CB which excels in the exact area we have deficiencies. This measured recruitment is what we've been missing for years. Again, our lack of pace up top last season caused us issues, so we're targeting explosive forwards to turn defences around with players like Wilks.

  20. Interesting comment on the Wycombe forum on distribution. 'As well as being a great traditional keeper and character, i think we would also miss his distribution. The speed at which he releases the ball out to Vokes and McLeary has given a different dimension to some of our attacking play'

  25. Stop giving caps to players who clearly aren’t good enough. It’s that simple. just cos they’ve had 5 or 6 good premier league games doesn’t mean they are capable of playing for England. Gallagher - no Bowen - no Ramsdale - no Saka - no

  27. Delighted to have signed for this massive club see he’s said it now we all know no matter what the experts think of him he is now on the way to becoming a club legend so relax and enjoy the summer and the transfers dropping in seriously though a few are turning their nose up basically because he isn’t a house hold name and it doesn’t inspire them but these are the kind of signings that could have us in a much better position in years to come he’s got the stats and experience he’s got the assets we lacked last year he’s going to be cheap in salary too good age wouldn’t surprise me if he has a blinding season plays 40 plus games, we keep 20 clean sheets, he scores 4/5 goals, we get promoted and bids north of two million come in for him also wouldn’t be surprise if he slipped in the car park on first day of preseason and has to retire through injury for years people have been shouting about signing players from lower leagues and it looks like we’ve got and signed two of the best stats from this division last year stockdale - golden glove henegan - most clearances Glamorous or not they are two statistics that I welcome very much so this new transfer approach is much better than stockpiling the over paid so called superstars we used to

  28. You're not the only Wednesday fan to make reference to it, no - and that might be why your comment drew such a strong response, as have several others which sought to mock his manner of speech previously. During the past twelve months, we've had posters on here compare Moore to Gareth Gates (who had a genuine speech impediment which needed intervention); suggest that he attend speech therapy; said he sounds 'thick'; and repeatedly mock him by peppering their posts with 'erm' when discussing his interviews...all because he uses filled pauses, which are an entirely natural feature of most people's spontaneous speech. Sorry if your intention was lighthearted, but your comment doesn't exist in a vacuum, and many on here have had enough of the undercurrent of unpleasantness which has surrounded this issue on here for months now. Interestingly, since you mentioned Wilder in your earlier post, I was watching an interview of his when he signed Heneghan for United, and it struck me that he was hardly the most fluent speaker himself. Funnily enough, nobody every mentions it, though - because he was winning loads of games for them and it was totally irrelevant to his qualities as a football manager. It's good to hear that you couldn't care less how anybody speaks - that's something we can definitely agree on, and we can turn our focus to what actually matters, which is Moore's performance as a football manager.

  29. I don’t know these are the type of signings for a club that are great for reasons fans don’t always get excited about experience, great keeper for this level short cheap contract Our aim is promotion, do we think we can get it with stockdale in net- I do I think he’s better than BFP and won’t drop as many blunders and be more assured at the back and I think he will be much chewier than BFP I also think we would probably want better longer term and on promotion stockdale will improve the department on last year for less IMO and if we get promoted next year would be a good cheap option in a department of 3 keepers he will be great to have around especially for people like Dawson and wildsmith ( think he will leave ) so yeah I actually think for all the right reasons this is a great signing Exactly what we need at this time just not exciting for people but it will be a very effective signing League one golden glove last season on free if we signed last seasons leading goal scorer on a free even if he was mid thirties would anyone complain?

  35. This is a very fair point. He almost certainly isn’t an upgrade on either Dunkley or Hutch. However, I’m pretty sure one of the big reasons behind both of their departures was their injury records (plus presumably the knowledge of our physio team that those injuries might continue next season). If Heneghan is a straight swap for Dunkley but is cheaper and fitter then great. One of main struggles last season was getting a full set of CBs on the pitch. Dunkley was MoM for many games last campaign but injuries blighted his season. Hopefully or recruitment is focused on availability as well as ability. A stable set of defenders with all players knowing their colleagues strengths and weaknesses covers a lot of deficiencies.

  36. If we play 4-2-3-1 with the current squad, we will finish in the bottom 8 and the manager will be gone by Christmas. We’ll need to offload Bannan and Gregory for a start.

  38. Smith would make a top signing. His whole game is built around hard work so I can’t see him coming here for a pay day and not be motivated to do well at the biggest club he’ll have ever played for. Forget his goals, he’s an all round top player who has more to his game than just goals. He’s also led to line for Rotherham in 3 promotions from this level and also great for Swindon for 14/15 during their play off campaign at this level. He’s also the type of player we don’t have in a target man and one we’ve lacked since Fletcher.

  39. Well, you are correct in saying that the PL as a league does not benefit. However those clubs that make up the PL have the vote and those that are capable of relegation are the thick end of the wedge.

  40. Always the best analysis Swiss Ramble - fair, no axe to grind and facts based. You cant help reading the thread and want to scream at a couple of things, even though you already knew them; 1. The TV funding model - i.e. parachute payments - is the root cause of all of the problems in the Championship. 'Everybody knows that the dice are loaded, Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed' as Leonard Cohen said, but the Premiership wont allow it to change. 2. Our medium/long term term strategy was staggeringly pathetic. Ignoring player sales, poor commercial income, signing players at the end of their careers etc etc..... 3. Even allowing all of the above, if it hadn't have been the shoddy approach to the ground sale paperwork it was by the Chairman we might still have been able to reset in the Championship and not reset in L1. 'We' have learnt some lessons. Wages are under control as an example. Moore seems to be a decent attempt as getting control back on the playing side. But I seriously doubt whether the club has the capability in-house, to firstly work out a realistic and achievable medium to long term strategy and then adapt it as things pan out.
