  1. Carlton Plamer was definitely at a different level, premier league and England player. But there is just no need for his comments. The most that we can ask is a player to give their all at the level they are playing, and Barry Bannan does this most game

  2. Two very different players, but you can’t argue with Palmer on that one.

  3. Central midfielder who's vision and passing are joy to behold. Tall and lanky, moves around pitch well and closes down opposition quickly. Didn't have great season, but his talent is obvious from miles away and it is no surprise that Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on him. He turned 17 last November and as far as I know We are yet to offer him pro contract. If He leaves for nothing We have only ourselves to blame.

  4. What about Fleetwood, Morecambe, Accrington, Cheltenham, Wimbledon, Cambridge etc. All smaller away ends than any Championship team offers.

  6. If you took that £1m and we bought Camara from Plymouth & Tucker from Gillingham that’s excellent business with change left over and we have bought 2 quality L1 players both under 26 in exchange for someone who is never fit, doesn’t fit into our system and most likely wants to leave.

  7. Two very different players and two very different eras of football. Today's game is much faster, technical ability improved all round and more physically demanding. Maybe Carlton's athleticism would be diminished in the modern game for for example? Why feel the need to make a comparison? If there was a need, surely the comparison would be between Bannan and Sheridan? In any event, players can only excel in the time period they play in, can't time travel. Both fondly thought of by fans, seems a pointless and potentially divisive comment.

  8. Carlton desperate to stay relevant. He needs to go off into the sunset and leave it alone.

  9. Personally I think the game has moved on to such a degree that our 2015-17 team would have given the 1991-93 team a game, even if they did still lose. The 90s team would lose 5-0 every week to the teams near the top of the Prem. That’s how much the standard has gone up. Bannan wouldn’t have looked out of place in 90s premier league when you consider players like Mark Pembridge, Scott Oakes and Barry Horne played his position in it.

  10. He’s right. looking at prices being quoted for Rice and Phillips there’s no way that in todays market Palmer and Sheridan don’t go for £30m-£50m each. They we’re on a completely different level to Bannan. Not quite sure of the context and why he has to say it though. Lets face it you could go through the team comparing it to the early 90’s and say the same about the lot. We came 3rd and then 7th getting to both cup finals. Man Utd offered a British record transfer fee for Hirst so he’d be going for £100m+, Nilsson would go for at least what Kyle Walker did etc etc. Different team, different times. I just sympathise with everybody under 30 that has no memory of us ever being good.

  11. Really ? I fancy FDB for a big season here next year, For me we should be building around Adeniran , Byers and FDB long term

  12. I wouldn't. Sorry to burst the bubble, he's exciting to watch but Johnson is a better player. Corbeanu likes his tricks but he doesn't actually achieve much,. I don't doubt he will be a top player in a few years but at present he can't defend and he's not actually that good at attacking. Watch closely he's got one move going outside and one going inside, once the defender realises that Corbeanu is in the defenders pocket. He wants the ball to feet and never goes for the killer ball inside the full back.

  13. Christ alive, we’ve been offered a seven figure sum for a player who didn’t even manage ten games last season. Complete and utter no brainier. Accept the offer DC, before they get a manager in with more sense than Caixinha.

  18. Have a word with yourself. The 91-93 and the 83-84 teams would have both battered the 2015 - 2017 sides.

  20. Wow, you're a glass half full kinda guy Barnsley, Blackburn, Coventry and Preston all offer more than any league 1 ground Are there many teams in the Championship whose away allocation is as low as Accrington, Cambridge, Cheltenham, Fleetwood etc, etc

  21. Yes players in the 90s were useless compared to todays. There’s no way defenders of that era like Nilsson, Gary Kelly or Irwin would be able to keep up with the likes of Ross Wallace.

  22. The 2015-17 team would batter the 1991-93 team. The game changed so much in terms of fitness in those 25 years, even the skill levels improved massively as the pitches and training regimes improved. Funnily enough, Carlton Palmer himself is probably the only one of that 1991-93 team with a similar level of fitness to modern players, which is why he stood out so much in the 90s.

  23. It wasn't set pieces. It was free kicks and corners that cost us.

  24. The benefits of playing a right back and a left winger at centre back, when you had centre backs available. It was noticeable how much better we got when Storey, Hutch and a n other were in the back 3. Had we played 3 centre backs from the start of the season instead of square pegs in round holes we would now be a championship team. Its really that simple.

  25. Spoke really well there We should all get behind him It may upset some but I like DM Growing as a manager and a thoroughly decent human being He’s a credit to the club

  28. just the sort of thing Bannan wants to read when he’s put blood sweat tears and ABILITY to try and get the team promoted. Nice one carlton.

  29. I’ve said a few times I believe Moore’s appointment was with a view to us improving our problems with transitioning Academy players into our first team amongst other things. Whether his critics like it or not we have to give someone the time to build this football club as it’s infrastructure has been badly neglected for the best part of 20 years.

  30. League of Ireland is much improved compared to how it was just couple of seasons ago. There are some good players there and plenty of young prospects playing first team football week in week out. As a result some really talented players started emerging and getting picked up by some top European (Schalke 04, Sevilla, Borussia Monchengladbach, Wolfsburg, Inter, Milan, etc...) and British clubs. I recon that good scouting could find us 2 or 3 cheap but talented players either for our U-18 or first team squad. 1. Dawson Devoy: 20 years old with 70 first team starts under his belt and Ireland U-21 international. Playmaker who reminds me of young Wes Hoolahan, who sees everything that is going on around him and plays killer pass. MK Dons had bid accepted for him (they have great eye for young talent) but He decided to turn them down. 2. Andy Lyons: 21 years old left back or wing back who works tirelessly down his flank, creates and scores goals. Another U-21 international with plenty of first team experience already. 3. Darragh Burns: 19 years old winger who already played 50 first team games for St Patrick. Bit rough, very quick and skillful. Played for every Irish underage squad and just got called up for their U-21's. It would be stupid not to look towards Ireland and see if there are players that could improve us both short and long term.

  31. Bannan playing in the early to mid 90s would have spent the entire time in the top tier of English football. As would have the likes of Hooper, Rhodes and Lees. The game has moved on incredibly worldwide, with a huge influx of players from countries you would have lauged at. Division 1 top scorer a Winger from Egypt tied with a forward from South Korea people would assume you were mad.

  35. Think I’ve read somewhere that Moore is going to get him and others young ones around the 1st team to train etc. Things like that, coupled with travelling with them just for the experience will hopefully do him the world of good.

  36. The stuff of legends. Finally gets squad time, picks up form, gets unfairly sent off, red card rescinded so there's no match ban, but gets injured during training so is out anyway.

  39. Can you identify the current/former Wednesday player from the clues???? Please read the rules below before participating! 1. The answer is a current/former player that can be from any era and has made at least 1 first team appearance. 2. Each day I will post one new clue. No other clues or hints will be given 3. The clues will be vague so remain open minded, but they will get easier as the game goes on. 4. You can only guess two players each day, so choose wisely. If you go beyond your limit additional guesses will be ignored. I can't be bothered to keep track of how many guesses everyone has had so please play within the spirit of the game! 5. Feel free to post your workings/thought process when guessing to help others. 6. Googling/research is allowed and encouraged. As it's the first game, I've no idea how difficult this will be, hopefully someone doesn't get the answer in the first 5 minutes and it'll last a few days. 2 clues to start you off, the next clue will be around this time tomorrow. Good luck ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- CLUE 1: MR HAIRPIECE TOWER CLUE 2:

  40. Hopefully Birmingham are interested in Mawson cos that’d possibly clear our path for Dean to return. I’d be very happy with Dean, Tucker, Opoku, and another left footed centre half… maybe Gibson on a free if he can prove his fitness. Add them four to Iorfa, Palmer and Brennan (if we don’t loan him out) and it’s a decent range of options for a back 3 IMO

  41. Like CP but he is chatting nonsense. Bannan didn't struggle in Championship plus comparing players from different eras is a pointless conversation. Carlton was great for us. Bannan was/is great for us.

  43. If you are talking about Cadamarteri, he got promoted to U-23 team towards end of the season and even scored his first goal at that level. Listening at noises from the club it sounds like We are doing really well to make him feel wanted and define path to the first team football for him. If you are talking about Shipston, he is yet to play for U-23's and get offer of pro contract despite turning 17 last November. Moore himself said how he knows everything about both Cadamarteri and Shipston and how he is eager to take good look at both of them. Soon after Shipston got injured, missed few games and never got called to U-23 squad that was at time overloaded with central midfielders, both our own and those we brought in on trial. I'm confident He will have great next season and get offer of a long term contract.

  44. We had a load of injuries at CB, hence why we ended up shoehorning people into the back three for a period. And we were still conceding goals from set pieces even after we had 3 CBs playing regularly.
