  2. Just found out that one of my colleagues, who happened to be a fellow Owl, has unexpectedly passed away. I know he travelled with the Rotherham Owls, catching the coach at Thrybergh. His name was Neil Monk if anyone knew him. Just thought I'd mention it in case any of the Rotherham owls knew him. He wasn't actually that local, living in the Castleford area these days, so it might take some time for the news to filter through. He was only in his late 30s, which makes it all the more tragic. RIP mate.

  5. Sheffield doesn't do one but if you travel just up t'rooerd to Barnsley you'll find such a thing happens every day of the week.

  6. Worrying when the soundbite is "the delay is nothing to worry about" It's Wednesday FFS, there's always something to worry about!

  7. I’d like him gone. Hugely overrated player. Greedy. Doesn’t fit in any particular role. Almost completely absent last season. Get rid and acquire an out and out strike partner for Gregory.

  8. With Owlstalk moving forward, I want to try and help the SWFC Community Team out a lot more by spreading the word on the work they do, supporting financially (Owlstalk readers already raised £1000 for the community team in our last fundraiser which we gave to them around the same time we sponsored Liam Palmer) The team do amazing work throughout the season but also in closed season when they have so much going on that I think it's important to raise awareness of it so you can share this thread with the people that you know that might want to get involved and benefit from the SWFC Community Team's work So without further ado, here's a look at this summer's NCS which for young adults between 15 and 17 is a lifechanging experience and the cost of which is totally affordable too. NCS is a two week programme for 15 to 17 year olds. You know that buzz you feel when you nail something you thought was near to impossible? When you feel epic? Imagine that, but for every day you’re with us. Throw that in with meeting a new crowd (who might end up as mates for life!), taking on challenges together (depending on where you are in the country you might do things like braving new heights on a climbing wall, turn your Sherlock on in a city wide scavenger hunt, or hit the water - and stay afloat! - in a river kayak adventure) and still having some time to recharge and chill. Pretty great, right? “I loved my team and we really worked together well. The instructors made it such an enjoyable experience and it was such a great time. I just loved it and I built relationships with people I wouldn’t think I ever would” - Sonia, Manchester The programme is design to support young people in gaining valuable skills which will then support them as they enter the world of work or as they go off to university. Programme overview: WEEK 1 - Week one is residential in which they will start their journey with lots of fun outdoor activities and learn about independent living. WEEK 2 - Week 2 is based back in Sheffield where they get to deliver a social action project within the local community. COSTS The cost is only £50 which includes travel to and from the residential site during week 1, accommodation, and all the activities we provide during the 2 weeks. Note - This cost can be reduced further to as little as £10, if the young person is on free school meals, has a EHCP or is a young carer. Now I know that many Owlstalk readers aren't in this age bracket but we all know people that are (family, friends etc) so I would really appreciate it if you could take a few seconds of your life to simply share the link to this page with them so that they can have a look and see if it's for them. The link to sign up or to find out a bit more info is https://wearencs.com/ Thanks everyone - now have a think who you know in your family or friends group (or their kids) who are 15 to 17 who could go on this (they don't have to be Wednesday fans at all) and share this page with them! Up The Owls!

  9. Chris Brunt, fantastic footballer but some of our fans seemed to dislike him, I remember him warming up as a sub and some were giving him some stick from front of South Stand.

  10. We should have smashed that deduction with that team No excuses

  11. Anyone mentioned Tyrone Henfleet yet? we missed out on his Dad years ago but his pace and crossing ability would really add something.

  14. It's impossible to envisage one of the top GKs from L2 last season becoming a top L1 keeper next year?

  15. Forget about any promotion challenge next season if he does

  16. Last ever game for Wednesday goes off with concussion trying to grab us a goal. Quite fitting eh? Forget that mistake in the first leg, that’s not the reason we didn’t get promoted. Warrior for us for years. Thanks for your service Sam, will always be welcomed back. Oh Sammy Sammy

  17. Mark Bright - always in Hirst's shadow, yet always scored plenty of goals in the top division and rarely missed a game through injury.

  20. I hope this goes through as soon as possible to be honest I also hope Chansiri doesn't price the move out of happening - last thing we need is a Josh Windass sat sulking Let's do the deal, get him moved on, and crack on
    5 points
  21. If we get a good offer for Windass we should sell, if we don’t then I’m looking forward to him playing for us as he’s a great player at this level

  22. I bet you can't wait to jump on his back after just one mistake, just like any other goalkeeper there's certain to be one or two mistakes that might cost us a goal. Peacock-Farrell made a few last season, the one at Ipswich was horrific.

  23. I do feel sorry for both of our goalkeepers. It seems like we will never forgive them the mistakes they made in the past.

  27. Hope not. A major issue of last season was finding a formation that worked. The fannying around cost too many pre Christmas points. Recruit players to suit 3-5-2 and get off to a flyer.

  30. Best thing about this if it happens is lessons are being learned and we are not letting them run there contacts down

  31. I’d say we need 4 given that Iorfa is made of glass We can’t be going into another season having to rely on Palmer and Johnson playing in a back 3

  32. You know that's not going to happen. It will mainly be last minute signings, it always is.

  33. I think baselessly implying that he wants to switch continents to be with his secret homosexual lover is nowhere near as progressive as you might think it is.

  34. And you've based this on seeing Dawson how many times over the last year?
    4 points
  35. ? I don't get it. Just because things were in the past it really does not make it 'better'..talk about nostalgia overload. Lancaster bombers flattened German cities and killed thousands of normal people. what the heck are people celebrating exactly? you still falling for the national thing?
    4 points
  36. Sheffield never does it, because there is always someone who gets offended on behalf of the people that are not offended. weekend like at Haworth are great celebration of where we came from, they also got a lancaster bomber fly-over which was amazing. but this would never happen in Sheffield, we dont even celebrate our patron saint. Every other country does their but we don't.

  39. Hopefully Gregory won’t be going anywhere. One of only a few players I would be gutted about if they left.

  40. The only people I seem to see getting offended over stuff like this are those who claim everyone is offended by everything. I've yet to see anybody who is ACTUALLY offended by these like people like yourselves claim. Could it be that you're the offended one?

  42. Every weekend loads of middle aged blokes go stadiums dressed up as footballers half their age. You can even buy the replica football kits, just like the ones the players wear! You must hate it.

  43. Dawson has had a great season on loan at Exeter. He may well come back a significantly improved player next season.

  44. Why would you abuse a kid over something like that? I actually really liked the fact that Att is interested in the club and checks out all of the signings before they come. It makes it a bit less corporate in a way.
