  5. This is going to be that weird thing again where people don’t want someone, no matter how good they are if they’ve ever played for us before. Happened last year with Hunt. This again would be a no brainier if the deal was right for us.

  6. I’d really like this transfer to happen. I like Windass as a player but I have a few logical reasons why I think a transfer is good for both… Say the fee is anything between £1m-£2m for example, that would make very little difference in the Championship. However in L1 reinventing that money could bring you in 2/3 top players at this level. Not to mention he’s likely paid very well for a L1 player. Secondly, no matter how good he is, he’s constantly struggled with injuries. Missed loads of last season and even back in 19/20 when he signed he was injured at Wigan and then injured at Wednesday also. Finally, what an experience for Windass! It’s no mugs league down there. How many British players have the opportunity to play in such a historic division.

  7. Probably. I think we also do the opposite, thinking some of our players are better than they actually are. Teams with unknown players on a fraction of our wages have regularly beaten us over the last 20 years. We have signed "names" who have turned out to be injury prone and/or past it.

  8. It’s quite simple really, the meltdown comes when we don’t win games that we should win. Nobody cares what formation he plays as long as he delivers. Neil has gone 16 games unbeaten and won promotion, Moore hasn’t delivered.

  14. No, we wouldn't get the same coverage, because in the event of promotion, we'd have been promoted from League One to the Championship three times within recent memory. Sunderland have played in the PL within recent memory, hence their "downfall", and now their resurrection. We used to be called a "sleeping giant". No-one says that any more. I live in the SW and work with a bunch who all follow football. After the Sunderland draw, not one person knew we'd been knocked out of the play-offs. I've had people approach me in the street and say that Swansea are their second team, because they they think the SW on the logo stands for Swansea for some reason. I went to a party in Gloucester last week and there were two teenage Forest Green fans, neither were bothered or interested in playing Wednesday as anything special. It took their father to convince them that Wednesday were once a big club. We're a well supported (but no longer the best supported) club in the third tier of English football, with no recent success, no recent claims to fame, no recent glory or story that anyone latches on to. No-one gives a poo about us, other than us ourselves.

  18. Had the pleasure for being downtown Buenos Aires last night.. Boca Juniors beatTigres on the copa final.. it was crazy, amazing scenes and went on for 8 hours, until the Riot police broke it all up. (Rubber bullets, batons etc) they know how to end a party ! If Josh wants an experience of crazy fans then this is the place.

  19. Reminds me of the old gag... We were a bit poor when I was a lad in the 50s. To make ends meet, mum had to get the family's clothes from the Army Surplus store. I felt a bit of a two hat going to primary school each morning dressed as a Japanese admiral.

  20. Fair point, though Windass didn’t really contribute to us finishing in the playoffs. So if we could swap his place in the squad with a more effective striker it would be a good move. Someone like Tshimanga at chesterfield has the potential to be the next Vardy/Wright striker from being prolific in non leagues to the top leagues. Hopefully we can snap up someone with potential like that

  21. Yeah I think anything north of £500k and we let him go and invest that money into younger players. E.g. that striker at Chesterfield or midfielder at Wimbledon or defender at Gillingham etc.

  22. Would anyone take Bostock from Donny? Think i saw he's out of contract. Apart from the obvious players from Rotherham/MK etc, i think his performance at Hillsborough was the best of any opposition player. Remember him running the midfield and dictating the game, but granted centre midfield isn't really where we need to recruit. Wouldn't mind that cocky fool Mckirdy from Swindon either

  23. 5 years v 22 years. We are irrelevant to most now. Forest will get the nostalgic feel on Sky if they go up. But we are alongside Charlton now of just another club to most fans of other clubs

  24. I think people are confusing it with the Gregory - Berahino partnership. After annihilating Cambridge 6-0 Moore chose not to start the pairing again for ages. Cambridge Gregory Berahino Accrington Paterson Berahino Gillingham Paterson Gregory Cheltenham Gregory NML (Saido away with Burundi) Wimbledon Gregory NML Bolton Gregory NML MKD Dons Gregory Berahino That was very odd management.

  25. Messing about with some real rumors and players that I think fit or could have some sort of connection. Several players have the WBA connection (Wilson, Griffiths, Palmer, Leko) and they are all players that could fit/work at Wednesday. By all accounts DM has a fantastic reputation, so let's hope he left a mark some of these players and that's the trump card. Looking at you, Kane.

  26. Yep. He's a solid 6 to 7 out of 10 performer most weeks and can play multiple positions. He's been here for over 10-years and has been picked to varying degrees by every single manager we've had during that time. He's not Trent Alexander Arnold and he never will be, but you know what you will get from him and his adaptability is a very useful asset during a 46-game league season. But yes, knobheadtheowl on here/Twitter knows better and will tell you that he's not even up to League One standard etc.

  28. Last ever game for Wednesday goes off with concussion trying to grab us a goal. Quite fitting eh? Forget that mistake in the first leg, that’s not the reason we didn’t get promoted. Warrior for us for years. Thanks for your service Sam, will always be welcomed back. Oh Sammy Sammy

  30. I wonder which one old Si Steers is actually from. I'll wager it's not the city in the middle. Also - the idea that all City fans are plastics and day trippers who don't really care, whilst all Liverpool fans are 100 percent authentic, is the biggest load of cobblers. One of my best mates is a Man City fan. He's 36 years of age and he watched them nearly f*ck it up in a play off final against Gillingham in 1999. That was the year that their nearest and dearest rivals won the treble. He's had to watch the likes of Jamie Pollock, Antoine Sibierski and a fat Robbie Fowler among many others. Yes, Man City are now a super club and they are financially backed by a state and I don't overly care for what they've become, but to suggest that the 30 odd thousand who used to go to Maine Road when they were in Division Two are not real football fans is so in keeping with the mindset and arrogance of certain Liverpool supporters. The best bit is Liverpool are a bigger club than Man City and actually have far more plastic, jokey, crappy, couldn't spell Anfield, let alone actually to go it fans than most clubs, bar possibly Man U. If Many City are what stands between us and Liverpool dominating English football at the present time then so be it.

  31. Sheffield never does it, because there is always someone who gets offended on behalf of the people that are not offended. weekend like at Haworth are great celebration of where we came from, they also got a lancaster bomber fly-over which was amazing. but this would never happen in Sheffield, we dont even celebrate our patron saint. Every other country does their but we don't.

  33. When I lived in the North East I used to think the same, but decades later a colleague who was a Sunderland fan debated it with me. It's hard to justify us as a bigger club than Sunderland. All time football league table has Sunderland at 10th and us at 14th: https://www.toffeeweb.com/history/records/alltime.php They've won the top league 6 times - us 4 times. Humbling I know, but like us, most of their success was a century ago.

  37. Why would you abuse a kid over something like that? I actually really liked the fact that Att is interested in the club and checks out all of the signings before they come. It makes it a bit less corporate in a way.

  39. I'll remember Hutchinson as a soldier and a leader, and will be greatly missed. I hope he stays with Wednesday in one capacity or other and I wouldn't complain if he goes into iFollow commentary. I think we have a duty to do some positive gesture for Hutchinson at the next event whether he's present or not. I hate to think that he'll be leaving us as the one who made the big mistake, and not as the one who always went above and beyond the call and led the team for years. 40. Indeed. A prime example being when some people were blaming Palmer solely for Sunderland’s equaliser in the playoff second leg where the fact is that NML and Storey were equally, if not more, culpable than Palmer.
