  1. Last ever game for Wednesday goes off with concussion trying to grab us a goal. Quite fitting eh? Forget that mistake in the first leg, that’s not the reason we didn’t get promoted. Warrior for us for years. Thanks for your service Sam, will always be welcomed back. Oh Sammy Sammy

  2. I'll remember Hutchinson as a soldier and a leader, and will be greatly missed. I hope he stays with Wednesday in one capacity or other and I wouldn't complain if he goes into iFollow commentary. I think we have a duty to do some positive gesture for Hutchinson at the next event whether he's present or not. I hate to think that he'll be leaving us as the one who made the big mistake, and not as the one who always went above and beyond the call and led the team for years. 4. Release Hutchinson and offer Wildsmith a new deal. What a fantastic start to our transfer dealings.

  5. Gutted about Hutchinson.

  6. So the 4 page topic about Hunt not getting a deal was a waste of time. Good choice offering deals with Luongo and Hunt. They’re integral in a 352 and to why we improved so much from January. Sad to see Hutch go but maybe it’s for the best. He didn’t cover himself in glory during the play offs and younger, fitter centre backs will be an improvement im sure. But what a servant to the club. 7. Surprised by Hutchinson. Appreciate he made that mistake in the first leg, but I thought he was by and large excellent tbh. Ability to play anywhere along the back three was very useful. Oh well. Suppose it depends on what we bring in.

  8. No great loss for me, far too inconsistent.

  9. Looking forward to seeing Hutch again in January when he leaves his new club to sign for us

  11. Can’t see a Megathread yet for this summer. Apologies if we have one. I’ll start of. Romaine Sawyers. Released by West Brom. Talented midfielder. Moore has connections. Think he’s be a very good addition.

  13. Pathetic the way people are going off about Dawson and Wildsmith We’ve written Dawson off again before he’s even turned back up Too many on here would be absolutely buzzing if we went out and signed some old dosser like Westwood on a pay as you play deal or some nonsense wouldn’t they

  14. We got nearly 90 points this season and scored loads. Why do people want a ‘different formation’. All we need is some better players in the plan we have. Keep it simple.

  15. Why are we writing Dawson off before even playing? Was thrown into the team in the Championship and naturally had some iffy games (but also some good games). He's since had a really bad injury but battled back and had an outstanding season at Exeter. They are desperate to keep him but can't afford. He is still only 26 so is far from his prime. He's deserved his chance to become our number one after that loan spell and we should give him every opportunity to earn it in pre season.

  16. We need a new keeper.

  17. Both would be even better.

  18. Little spell in October/November where he looked an absolute beast at the back. Sadly think that leg break has set him back. Good defender just needs a run of games. BUT in this system of playing out of defence under Moore, he is simply not suited. Best of luck to him though. Can’t help injuries and gave his all when he played.

  19. Absolutely gutted about Hutchinson. Exactly what we need in the middle of the back 3, loyal, and gives his all Baffled by the decision to be honest

  22. I think our fans have a weird fear of the unknown at this time of year. Always seem to react to players leaving as if there’s no possible way anybody can be replaced. It’s Hutch’s time, for me. He’s been a good servant, but another who has known almost nothing at this club other than failure and gradual regression. We need to get younger, start looking to the future and bring in fresh legs.

  23. Tbf, I thought he did a pretty decent job in the second half of the season. Still - I feel like we need a bit more pace and legs up top.

  24. Messed up hugely in the past but you can’t fault him last season for how much backing he provided DM. Hopefully more of the same. Touch wood we’ve offered the right contracts to those who’ve expired ie Luongo, etc, and additionally they’ll be a focus on both bringing some youth through and recruiting players at the right age with re-sale value.

  27. Nope let’s not start this. Plenty of players made mistakes throughout the course of the season that cost us points. Will miss Sam in the blue and white. Proper good bloke and player for us.

  30. There's a keeper down at Exeter who's had a cracking season by all accounts. I think we should be taking a look at him. 17 clean sheets last season, 26 so just coming up towards his prime, Championship experience, even saved a pen against the pigs! Sounds ideal right?

  31. If I was Dawson I'd want to sign for a club where i can be first choice and a success like the season he's had this season If I was Wildsmith I'd want to move on

  32. So Dawson and Wildsmith will be our keepers. There’s no other way to read that.

  36. We finished above them in the league (just). They were 3rd when they sacked Johnson, we were 8th at the time... They narrowly saw us off in the play offs with a last minute equaliser in a game they turned into an absolute turd with their attritional brand of football. Not sure how we have a far better squad than them when the difference was a solitary point in the league. We didn't have a striker who scored 25 goals, nor do we have attacking wide players with the pace of Roberts and Clarke. But yes, let's turn a thread about Sunderland getting pissed in London into another excuse to have a pop at our manager.

  39. Based on the players offered deals signing… Dawson Brennan Iorfa Palmer J Hunt Luongo Byers Bannan Johnson Windass Gregory Subs from Wildsmith Brown Adeniran Dele-Bashiru A Hunt Mendez-Laing Sow Paterson Even with no signings that team would be among the favourites to go up I imagine. Midfield looks very strong. Could do with another striker and specialist wing-back to provide back-up / competition Question mark for me over the quality of the keepers Defenders clearly the overwhelming priority. Only 2 recognised centre backs in a squad whose major weakness last season was set-piece and late goals. Minimum two proven quality defenders needed.

  41. Bit disappointed at the stick Dawson is getting already. Yes he struggled in the Championship but so did the rest of the squad. He's had a great season with Exeter and his confidence must be brimming. Let's not bring him down already before he's even stepped foot on the pitch. Big difference between L1 and the Championship so I've every faith that he'd be up to the job at hand. He's worth a shot if it means we can bring in another player with the money saved.

  42. Neither Wildsmith nor Dawson are anywhere near as bad as they are made out to be in these august pages Both would be more than good enough

  43. I think that we'll have limited funds and those funds will likely be used to strengthen elsewhere. Dawson will be our new number one. Wildsmith will sign a new contract and be backup. Whether you rate Dawson or not, he kept 19 clean sheets last season and almost won player of the season. I don't particularly have a problem with Dawson between the sticks, provided he comes back and shows the sort of performances he showed for exeter.

  44. Our best defender gone. Personally think it’s a mistake. Leaves us with Iorfa who is even more injury prone than Hutchinson.

  45. I also think it's important going into next season that any/all gripes are put to one side for a full season to try and create a positive atmosphere in and around the football club

  46. To be honest the chairman’s terrible financial management is why we’re in League One. A combination of naivety and stubbornness hampered by embargo’s, deductions and players not being paid on time. How much of that is really down to this Paixao fella. Yeah recruitment was bad, but half the problem was we were trying to sign players in a competitive league under various financial restrictions. The quality was always going to be poor. Last season was positive in terms of recruitment for me. But we were always going to attract good players for this league given the size of the club. We had that pulling power when we were down here in 2005 and 2011.

  47. Exactly. It's the bloody play offs and it's a lottery. In 2016 we beat a Brighton side who had finished 15 points ahead of us. Do we think that Brighton fans were sat there saying Hughton was crap and they should have got rid? They stuck with the bloke, backed him again, and he delivered automatic promotion the following season. Look, Moore has got deliver next season, no question. We can't be getting into November time again and still finding our way in terms of best team, tactics etc., but let's f*cking back the guy after he delivered a good season and just missed out.
