  1. HELLO! HELLO! HELLO! HELLO! IS THERE ANYBODY THERE? THERE THERE THERE Just the few hardy souls eh? The desperadoes. The afflicted. Those who can't resist a pick at the scab. Down here with me. In this pit. Well this is it chaps. Defeat tonight and a Derby win at Preston and that's that. The fat lady's last note. The final curtain. It's sink or swim Tonight will be the confirmation nail. There's really little more to be said... Luckily we have a team

  4. Agree. The bit of it's that bothering me about the opposition to it is this idea that we want the clubs to actually stay. For me the fight is to make sure they go. The cat is out of the bag and they've made their intention's clear. I don't think the six/twelve should compete in a domestic or CL/Europa fixture ever again. There is no competitive merit to playing these clubs. This should go ahead and the 12 should go. Whatever is left of our sport is ours to re-shape. There is opportunity here for the rest of us. The one result I don't want out of this is fo

  9. Yes, but when you've got eight, nine players - in the starting XI - likely to leave in the summer, it is always going to be problematic. Let's not pretend this was all part of some master strategy to start afresh next season. It is nothing but sheer incompetence.

  11. Manchester United already have one - FC United of Manchester. They were founded in 2005 in direct response to the Glazer buy out. They've spent 16 years being mocked or ignored, particularly in the immediate years when United kept winning with the Glazers anyway. They've been proven absolutely right about almost every single thing they broke away from Manchester United for. Including this.

  16. Some select quotes from an article that was linked earlier: ”However, its underlying message is that the 12 clubs – including six from the Premier League – had no choice but to act because of the financial costs they were facing. Citing Covid, it warns that the accumulated losses of top-level clubs exceed €5bn (£4.3bn).” “The weaknesses in the foundations of football have been known for many years, Covid simply exposed their severity and none of the game’s stakeholders have come up with a solution. Inaction is no longer an option.” Interesting that of the option

  18. Thanks for all the birthday wishes. Owlstalk is like my extended family Trust me to share my birthday with this bloke...........no not Joey ( bless 'im ) , Joey did an interview on youtube and well the thumbnail for the vid made him look like the bloke I share my birthday with. A certain Austrian Corporal in the 1930's and 40's.......I wonder if Joey is any good on the right wing ???? I shall think positive and watch tonight. I could do with a good laugh.

  19. In two minds whether to watch or not tonight. Celebrating my birthday on my own today is bad enough ( 65 if you're wondering ), but then watching another Wednesday performance ( pantomime ) would be the icing on the cake. At least I can console myself by having the cake all to myself. I baked my own chocolate birthday cake. How sad is that. A bit like this bloke. Up the Owls.........happy days

  20. Ya know what, having slept on it and thought on it... I'm even angrier than before. Cannot stress how much I want the 6 franchises to f*ck off and form their little club so we can try and get the rest of football in this country just a tiny bit back towards a model of reality and not disaster capitalism.

  21. Sadly you are completely misunderstanding the psyche of the owners behind this. They don't care about the fans, they don't care if no genuine fan ever goes to a game again. They aren't interested in the 50 to 80k attending games who currently make up maybe 10% of their income. They want the 500 million+ in Asia who will pay to watch every game on TV and the tourist traffic that is desperate to go see Mannure, CHelsea, RM etc. live (believe me I hear this all the time from the local yokels here). There is 10 times more money to be made that way and at the end of the day

  24. My/our beloved Owls were runners up to Tottenham in 1961 and IMO we should have won the league that year, that’s when the great Owls manager Harry Catterick asked SWFC board to buy 2 or 3 top players so he could win the title the year after as he was certain he could do so. The boards response was - and I quote “you have a good team - keep it”. That IMO was the downfall of SWFC and yes I understand the era’s of Howard Wilkinson, Big Ron and tricky Trevor Francis were on the verge of something special BUT again the board of SWFC at the time and ever since have never backed their manag

  25. It is hilarious how Sky etc would only ever show old PL games on TV, never refer to pre 92, never referring to the history of the game. Now they’re the grandads and suddenly it’s all about our histories and traditions. Very ironic.

  30. This. The worst case scenario is the Super League happening but the clubs involved getting to have their cake and eat it by staying in their domestic leagues. I don't particularly want the clubs involved to change their minds. They've made their bed, now they can lie in it and let the rest of us get on with rebuilding the game.

  31. Yes, and now you're basically saying it's okay that the theft happened, and in fact what we should do is give all of those thieving b@stards an extra £250 million head start over the rest of the competition just because they've been so good at being thieving b@stards. F*cking genius.

  32. Everyone is not OK with the things you have listed. This latest move is the biggest towards franchise football ad home games for English clubs in everywhere except England. When was the last time Arsenal and Spurs finished in the top 4 in the same season? You know all this though so I'll leave you to it.

  33. Those 'classic' big games were such because they were more of one-off big occasions. Seeing Real Madrid play Liverpool every season twice will dilute that. As for faux outrage, I presume you are completely comfortable with Arsenal finishing 9th in England and deciding whether they want to invite 3rd place Leicester into their private party for a season? The big 6 do often dominate but they are creating this through a combination of the biggest European clubs being in huge debt and the smaller clubs having the temerity to infiltrate their sacred top 4. 34. Here’s a thought. Restructure the football league. Promote the top six from the non league. And carry on without the big six. The champions league should be for champions. Bring back the cup winners cup and the EUFA cup for second and third. Allow players to tackle get rid of var. set a realistic pricing and wage structure for each league so nobody can buy their league again. And let the ESL circus go off on its world tour and proper fans refuse to watch it.

  38. Reoccurring theme is that they all manage their finances poorly. And pay average players and managers ridiculous amount. A salary cap 20 years ago, or salary levels very closely linked to gate receipts would have stopped all this. The richest clubs shouldn’t be in debt. It’s outrageous to comprehend that the masters of this financial shitshow are now taking the lead on getting us out of it. Laughable. Football as a business needs to go bust. And re-set. ITV Digital nudged the door open and hopefully Covid will smash it down.

  39. Do you genuinely believe it is faux outrage. For want of a better word football was already ****** and this will make it even more ****** than it was before. A "competition" which select teams are already in with no need to qualify. A "competition" where half the games will end up being totally meaningless. It's basically there to protect specific clubs so they can monopolise football more than they already are doing. There is no interest in making it better for the fans its purely greed. The only "fans" who will like this are the plastic glory h

  40. Vast swathes of football fans accepted it and embraced it - indeed chased it every step of the way If the outcry and hostile reaction to the latest developments had maybe happened earlier then we might be at the point we've reached - where maybe fan and matchday culture would be much more part of the reckoning than it has been Fans continually howl for their clubs to invest more and more - to get better more costly players and pay obscene wages way beyond the ability of most clubs to pay them It's like some fans have literally just been confronted with the r
