  1. "Good news, Sir. I managed to contact Mr Hargreaves" "Oh yes, have trouble did you?" "Yes, Sir he's in Spain." "I thought we were skint" "He's there working, Sir" "A likely tale" "Well, the good news is, I mentioned your concerns about the wooden set we've been left to work in and he held his hands up to it and said that he's working on something as we speak" "Buying the house back is he?" "Well, not as such. He's spent over £100 on a bar snack and a pint" "Are you sure he's in Spain?"

  2. A manager with a proven record, promotions to his name and worked wonders with little or no money at Wigan. Go and get him Chansiri and get rid of Monk before it's too late. 5 wins in last 25 league games is unacceptable. Jos got sacked with a better record than Monk.

  4. Christ what a set of over reactions we’ve had today Manager loses first game......sack him First league goals conceded.....keeper not good enough New striker doesn’t score in his first start.....should never have been in the team Just to put a bit of perspective on the season so far, these minus 12 points.....in any other context these sort of things would be amortised over the whole season, not all 12 points knocked off at the start....it’s approx 0.25 points deduction per game On that basis, we are on 3.25 points having played last

  5. Owlstalk strikes again. Manager loses his first game of the season and already someone's calling for his head. I wanted Monk out last season but was prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt this. TBH I've been impressed so far that with such a poor squad he's managed to make us look quite good. That's what I was thinking all the way up to half time after completely dominating a 'top' Bristol City side. Now I'm worried that Monkball is dependant on sustained levels of energy that we just don't have. But I'm not going to throw a wobbler because of a poor performance for just 45

  8. We are playing good football up until we get it up front where it breaks down to having no natural forwards to carry on the good work. This is not having a pop at the players up front, just not their natural game. Have a look down the sofa might be a few bob down there.

  9. Yes, today's result is disappointing, as was our second half performance, but did anyone seriously look at our squad before a ball was kicked this season and expect much more than the kind of results and performances we've seen so far? This is going to be a long, hard season where our primary objective has to be to finish above the bottom three. To ensure we do that, we need to win around 60 points by the close of play, which means we need to average 1.3 points per game. Two wins, two losses and a draw every five games should give us enough points over the course of the

  11. It was 8th December 1990 our big season. We were living in London so I treat me and the three boys to a trip to Ashton gate. It was cold and and persistent sleet in central London. As we left Marylebone Station the sleet turned to snow and as we approached Oxford the train came to a halt with about four inch of snow on the track side. \there came an announcement from the guard "Sorry for the delay, this snow is particularly slippy" Well it would be and we were worried. Never mind we got going again and by the time we made Bristol there were just bits of slush around. Very few Owls,

  12. Yet another biased thread based off of preconceptions. I remember after our first game the JvA thread, people were going on about him giving away "loads of pointless free kicks". I ask how this can be when he gave away two free kicks all game, both of which were in the first half in the space of about 10 minutes... no response from the usual boo-boys. Today, yet another thread lamenting him "giving away needless free kicks"... and it turns out that he committed one foul all game. People are so determined to have a narrative that facts just don't matter to them any

  13. Offload Reach asap We just don’t need him anymore He doesn't fit into our team or tactics anymore and he is good enough to be playing elsewhere. If he goes he's off the payroll too meaning we could bring in a new face to challenge for a first team place in a position they're native in

  14. Its not just today , far from it. Ive been calling for him to go since the restart last season. A manager is rightly judged on results, and he isnt getting the results. 5 wins in last 25 league games.

  15. He was better than Tom Lees who seemingly had a brain transplant at half time. At fault for their goal and then the ensuing chance from the kick off.

  16. Where were the threads about him saving 100% of shots faced in games 1&2? I mean it’s almost as if you have an axe to grind and been waiting for the lad to make a mistake or have a poor game. I know one thing, he’s better at keeping than many of our ‘supporters’ are at supporting.

  18. Second highest championship scorer and our only striker apart from Windass ( who I am not convinced is a number 9) whom he seems to compliment and he gets dropped and brought on too late to make an impact. Ridiculous decision by Monk. Despite his poor form for us is still averaging almost 1 in 5 which is what Zahore got last season in a promotion side and we want to spaff 25k a week on him . Rhodes needs a run and if he gets it will bag 20. Kachunga is OK but his scoring record is bobbins.

  19. Its as simple as that i think. Man to man, not much in it, but their forward line was much more potent than ours. If we don't solve our striker crisis this is going to be a long difficult season.

  21. First half decent second pretty dire as we all know. Reality is though, what do people expect from this really thin and lightweight squad? It feels like the build up of positivity seems to have pushed fans to think we are better than we actually are. I said it all along that 4th bottom will be an achievement for us. We are very lightweight and the depth is non existent in attacking areas. 4 points from the first 3 is a fair return for this squad I think.

  22. ...proper throw ins By that I mean, the thrower picks up the ball, 2 or 3 players move towards him. He quickly throws the ball to them, and then we carry on playing. That’s it. That’s all I want to see. I do not want to see us execute our usual 5 step plan to throw in disaster: 1. Amble towards the ball 2. Take an age to work up the mental strength to throw it back on the pitch 3. Send one person over to receive the ball, throw it to said player under pressure 4. Return the ball to the thrower with the firs

  23. For me, nothing is different this season compared to last as far as our stamina is concerned. This season in all our games our workrate drops as the game goes on and we start dropping deeper, leaving opponents tons more space to play in front of us and as a result, they are more dangerous. It's either poor attitude, poor tactics or we lack staying power. Bannan was so deep in the second half compared to the first half it was unreal. It also isolates our 'forwards' who have to feed off little or no service. Nothing changed when we conceded the first today, there was no d

  29. One of our most talented players. Great engine, versatile and capable of reaching heights most of our squad couldn't dream of. He's been off the boil for a year when he was asked to basically carry the team solo, now he needs games and confidence. Reminds me a lot of Antonio going through a bad spell and everyone getting on his back. Brunt too. And Whelan. We'll never learn.

  30. They did plenty of laughing at us when we had a whole team (and more) out injured, some seriously. I don't wish any player a serious or career ending injury, but I'm happy to hope their best players keep getting niggling injuries if it helps send them down. They seem to be very lucky with injuries over the last few years.

  37. If Monk wants to stick with this formation. Desperately need two new wing backs and a proper centre forward, not Paterson. An out and out striker. Could do with an extra man in midfield if one of the three we have get injured. Very poor today.

  38. I thought we were going to have some perspective? At the start of the season (and even after Cardiff) most fans admitted a lot had changed behind the scenes, and the newly forged team spirit and addition of backroom staff is exactly what we needed and that it would take time to nurture but we were finally heading in the right direction. We understood we’d lose games but as long as the players were giving everything. Now, one defeat after a strong first half but crap second half, and we’re reverting back to ‘Monk out’ and all the other boring nonsense Unbelieva

  41. Watcha Owls, long time no post. Firstly and most importantly, I hope you're all staying safe in these tough times. I hope you know by now that gloating is not my style so I am not going to start doing that. First half, you were certainly the better side, by some margin IMHO but I wonder if Monk made an error at half time as the 2nd half was a different story. It looked to me that your centre half (not Iorfa) was really struggling with Nahki Wells pace yet he never swapped the defence around. Iorfa impresses me when I see him play and he's clearly lightening quick so could h

  42. Could go a long way to shaping our season, and will give us an idea if we are going to give staying up a proper go. QPR (H) Birmingham (A) Brentford (H) Luton (H) Rotherham (A) Wycombe (A) If we want to aim for collecting at least 62 points this season to reach the magic 50 mark, we need about 1.3 points a game, we are making that at the moment, just. We'd need about 8 points from 6 games to keep that up, but you'd want a bit more than that with those fixtures. Would hope we can get at least 10. That'd put us on 14 points fro

  43. Its a bit of a worry that we seem to have lots of energy in the first half of games but tend to go flat in the 2nd half . Surely with this super duper new coaching and training team we ought to have more in the tank?

  46. Where's iorfa? Because there's only van aken and tom lees at the back. Van aken had two on his shoulder and one running into the middle with bannan about 3 behind. If anything the one in the middle should have been covered by Tom Lees but again I think he had been dragged out of position.
