  1. So, we’re up to 5… Dunkley, Dele, Izzy, Kachunga and Windass have all come in, and I’m excited. It would be very easy to rattle through each one of the above and find flaws, but what’s the point? They’re here now so why not focus on the positives. These lads for me all have a point to prove. They also all knew we were on -12 before they joined, so for me, they all have a bit of character about them. So, why not hope in Dunkley we have another Iorfa but with more goals? Why not hope Dele is our next Whelan? Why not hope Kachunga working under Beattie in his preferred po

  4. Don’t take offence to these at all. Looking from the outside in it’s not hard to gather why... 12 point deduction. Lost our 3 top scorers and are yet to sign any out and out strikers. Lost our first choice left back. Not replaced. We only 4 of 23 in the second half of the season. To be fair if we manage to stay up this season it will be an amazing achievement. I don’t think some supporters realise the difficulty of the task at hand. Wigan were relegated despite finishing in 13th place with a 12 points deduction. I’ll be shocked

  5. Hope everyones had a good week and looking forward to the weekend. So, here we are, the season starts tomorrow, so happy to have football back. I am actually looking forward to it, I know we are starting on -12 but instead of the few months finding our feet and seeing out games, taking draws etc, we need wins, we have to go and try and pick up 3 points every game. Looking at the squad we have plenty of pace, we will be dangerous on the counter attack, we all know that we aren't too bad in possession. There are no reasons why we can't go out and have a go, ho

  6. I think that we have to cut Monk some slack here. Listen, after 4 wins since the turn of the year, there is no way he should be in charge of our football club this season, but he is and those are the facts. I don’t rate him and I don’t like him much as a person from what I’ve seen from interviews but I’m my opinion he has done a GOOD job in the transfer market so far. 1. Dele-Bashiru- a total unit. Seems strong and good in the tackle. Can also dribble and very young. Could be a real find. 2. Dunkley- not played yet but the man is a leader. Talks a good game

  7. We were slaughtered for most of the second half of last season, have jordan rhodes as our only striker, goalies that dont stop shots, and are starting on -12. As has been said, if someone offered me 4th bottom now I would take it every day of the week. There is a good chance we will never get out of the bottom 3 next season.

  8. Christ almighty that's depressing reading. Paying Premier League prices for a squad like that.

  9. In all honesty this is the first season in years I've been genuinely buzzing to see what happens given all the changes, the new staff, the new assistant manager, the new players, the new ethos, and even the new social media approach giving more of an insight to the players and building the relationship between fans and players/management I think it's going to be a positive season given the situation we are in, and can't wait to see us thrusting forward with pace too!

  10. I'm hopeful that curent situation might create certain team spirit and "do or die trying" mentality from everyone at the club. Sometimes situation like this bring out the best out of players.

  14. Does anybody agree with me that our kit manufacturers and kit designs are getting worse season after season? My personal view is that Puma was the last company to supply us with good match day and training kits. Before that Umbro supplied us with great looking kits and Bukta in my opinion supplied us with our greatest kits. Since we severed ties with Puma we've had such rubbish as Diadora and Sondico that both looked cheap and nasty. DC says manufacturing our own kits under the elev8 brand makes commercial sense but how can this be? I'm sure if he got on the phone to Bukta and asked them to do

  16. Well I'm not a fanboy of Monks but he's not going away. He's assembled a team of capable players and with a good couple of forwards we could soon be out of the relegation battle. As fans we need to get behind the team, they have enough millstones around their necks as it is, no need for the fans to be another one.

Seeing as Carlos has made a comeback in the Wallace thread i thought i'd stick my twopennorth in on Managers i've loved during my time as a Wednesdayite Jack Charlton :- Not the prettiest football at times but boy was it 100% up and at em and i loved him for it Sgt Wilko :- Sadly JC couldn't get us over the line and Wilko expounded on Big Jacks side and got us up slightly better football and most importantly successful football Big Ron :- Probably the best football i've watched as Wednesdayite and of course brought us Roland Tricky Trev :- Ma

  24. https://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/sheffield-wednesday/letters-home-and-surprising-voice-inside-meeting-set-tone-sheffield-wednesdays-pre-season-2961925 Found this quite interesting, and sort of borderline inspiring. Seems like Monk has the makings of a squad that he’s at least happy with. Team spirit is gonna be big this season and it seems like Monk has had a hand in our social media and has identified that there was a disconnect between players and fans and wants to address that. Dunkley, if fit, will be massive for us. Bring on the ro

  25. It's pretty evident that I don't have a lot of faith in Monk and I can't say I am optimistic about our prospects as things stand but I am a Wednesday fan, I'll continue to watch us whatever our plight and as much as I am and will be critical if performances/results deserve it, I will be willing them on from 1st minute to last every game. Come on Wednesday, lets make a good start tomorrow and give everyone a lift.

  27. Why is it deluded? We only got 56 points last season and we had players capable of scoring goals then and didn't have the added pressure of trying to crawl back 12 points on the other 23 teams in the division.

  30. Last two kits have been possibly the best since the very early 90's Club have absolutely nailed it recently with kits - and massively improved availability, launch announcement/timings. Also, social media. Signing announcements, breaking news (the good stuff!) all superb - Kachunga vid was a stroke of genius. Full credit to the club on both these counts, especially amongst everything going on around them with the financial position.

  32. No point in going into it meekly....Theres a reight job to be done....Whatever your thoughts on Monk etc...Its going to be pointless to go into the season without all being on the same hymn sheet... If there comes a time for recrimination...fair enough...but to start the doubts before we even start is self defeating nonsense

  36. Every game is important we need to instill a winning mentality as soon as possible - if we can go out against Walsall score a few goals, keep a clean sheet and gets some valuable 90 minutes in key players legs then its good news. If we play a second team with players out of position and get turned over by Walsall a team that finished 43 places below us last season then it will send the wrong signals for the team, the players and the fans that nothing has changed and we continue to be a soft touch. The cup game is a massive game for us tomorrow.

  43. Nobody will know for sure but... rumours are Watford & Bristol were looking at Dunkley, Dele didn't have to leave City, Preston wanted Windass & Brown would have been well sought after I'm sure. So, I don't really believe these lads are here "because they needed a job" but we can agree to disagree. For all our sake's, let's hope it's that they have that bit of character and that despite us not spending big and questions being asked already of some of the signings, that the sum of the parts leaves us with a team that can surprise people next year.

  44. Since going on loan in 2012/13 to Tranmere where he played 46 times, this is Palmer's record. 2013/14 - 44 games 2014/15 - 39 games 2015/16 - 19 games 2016/17 - 23 games 2017/18 - 29 games 2018/19 - 39 games 2019/20 - 33 games There has a good few managers during that time, how does he make so many appearances if he is below average?
