  1. I was dreading this season but after Monk brought in his own coaching staff and the signing of DunkIey I feel far more confident It's amazing what 48 hours can do but this goes to prove that DC heart is still in it as he didn't have to back Monk and could have kept the coaching staff as it were without further additions but he's come out and backed Monk. I was calling for his head after the second half of last season but he's not going anywhere so all we can do is get behind him. He might suprise us. In a way he's got nothing to lose as we're a good bet to get relegated with the po

  3. The Owls have made towering central defender Chey Dunkley their second signing of the summer. The 28-year-old switches to Hillsborough ahead of the Owls' return for pre-season later this week. Dunkley is a vastly experienced operator at the heart of the rearguard, with a total of 366 senior appearances to his name. After kicking off his career with Crewe Alexandra, he represented Hednesford Town, Kidderminster Harriers, Oxford United before joining the Latics in 2017. Dunkley flourished at the DW Stadium, swiftly becoming a crowd favourite courte

  11. Well, no excuses apart from the fact that we're 12 points behind everyone else before the season has even started, have a questionable financial position, only two thirds of a squad, reduced attractiveness for new players with multiple offers, and those we do have aren't very good. So if the new assistant manager takes the credit should we do well, then the logical extension of that thought process is that the last six months must be Bullen's fault? Sadly, this is all too indicative of the modern age. People make their choice, then literally nothing can change

  12. Let's have a look at him before writing him off. A lot to prove, but in his favour is that he's left footed and capable of picking a pass, important if playing out from the back in a three. Way more negatives from his last outing in a Wednesday shirt I accept, but lets reserve judgement until he's played a few more games

  13. Funny how the football was crap in the 70s but I don't think I have ever enjoyed being a Wednesday fan as much, away at boro and getting hammered think it was 8, it was just the best time to be with thousands of Wednesday fans, and lads like Sammy , thomo and all the others made it all worthwhile, here's to all of them and cheers lads thanks for the memory.

  14. It's hard enough being a Wednesday fan under normal circumstances, but I'm ready to get behind Monk for another go. He's cleared out a lot of the players that several managers have had issues with - although a few are still left because they're contracted until next year. He's brought in his own staff, and started to bring in promising youngsters. He's also a manager with experience in the circumstances we find ourselves. Hopefully this can be a new start for him. And also a foundation that will start to attract the kind of players we will need for next season's fight.

  18. To me Kachunga would be a cost effective replacement for Murphy. He's not really a striker. Got to be realistic, he's affordable and definitely has something to offer, sign him up.

  21. Nobody should be under any illusions that the appointment of Beattie will be some sort of magic bullet which will instantly sort all of our shortcomings, but if he can replicate the impact he's had on other strikers in the past, then we might just start to put our chances away with a bit more regularity, rather than having the fourth highest shots per goal ratio in the division as we did last season. There's every reason to be hopeful... Chris Wood went from scoring 4 Championship goals in 13/14, 0 in 14/15, and 13 in 15/16, to scoring 27 under Monk and Beattie in 16/17

  27. Boring mate. Some of the best bargains are the players that have dropped out of form and need a fresh start. Look at the signing of big Dom Iorfa.

  28. I’m not positive just yet. I’ll be happy when he says I’ve brought in a Chief Exec, Director of Football and binned off the current ‘advisors’. We will not go anywhere until that is in place - it’s so vital we get off the field correct.

  29. After questionable effort in recent seasons, maybe back to basics, with players who want to work hard. We're not in the market for established superstars, presumably the plan to make the team greater than the sum of its parts. In reality, the likes of Dunkley, Kachunga on frees, wont be on big wages and have something to offer (could also add Windass to that list).

  34. I like what Hughes said about his time with Wilder...The first things are outrun, outfight and outplay teams regardless of anything else. I'll take that from any Wednesday team and I think the majority of our supporters will do the same.

  36. Westwood could be on long term sick with anxiety or depression for all we know. If that was the case, companies have been known to pay employees in this scenario.... does anyone actually know if he is being paid? No we don’t really. This thread keeps on coming up - but the club are hardly going to put Westwood’s business out there - so it’s all really pointless. Yes as fans we’d like to know, but will probably not know for another 5/10 years.

  40. A defender that can't defend. I can't see him turning it round after 3yrs. I suspect Monk will take a look, quickly realise JVA isn't good enough, then farm him out on loan somewhere for his final year. Bad buy.
