  1. 31 years ago today, 96 people went to a football match and didn’t come home. RIP

  2. I was delighted when he was appointed. Always saw his teams as hard working, decent effective and efficient football, with a strong mentality I was impressed with his Leeds and Birmingham sides when they played us - I was very impressed with the boro side that beat us (before he got the boot) He started off with the team showing all these attributes We had a bad run over Christmas and he totally lost the plot for me Changing the formation, the players, the style almost every game He has serious work to do from the re

  4. Not given enough time to build a squad, I don't like the tactics he uses far to negative for me. Having said that if he can improve us with his style then fair enough. If we are going to give managers less than a season to prove themselves then we are going to need a very long conveyor belt.

  5. Its definitely bottle that's missing. Needs to stop worrying about getting injured and start getting stuck in. The ability is there, the fitness too, the word for him is nesh (if that's still a word.)

  7. In 1980 I spent the enormous sum of £99 on a Sony portable TV/Radio/Cassette. The screen was about 4 inches square. It was an amazing piece of technology for the time and was only the size of a large radio. After the Oldham riot we had to close the Kop and for the QPR game I went in the North Stand. I usually took a small transistor to games on the Kop but thought I'll be sitting down so I'll take the telly! The telly worked OK and I put it on at half time and for the teleprinter. It caused a bit of a sensation! I wonder if anyone else has ever taken a telly to a football match ? I als

  8. We can't keep chopping and changing, give him a 3year contract with reasonable backing and leave him to it.

  9. I really like Fletcher. Good player always puts in 100%. But he is injured a fair bit and is not getting any younger. If he's on 30k a week I wouldn't want to be offering him that. Plus he will want 2 years minimum. I just think we need to go younger and cheaper. Fox is ok and has been a solid player. As long as he wants sensible wages I'd offer him 2 years. But if he starts getting greedy let him go...hes not exactly irreplaceable.

  15. The FA Cup final defeat to Arsenal left me distraught for days. My uncle was a football journalist, so eight-year-old me took everything he said about football as gospel. Just before the League Cup final, he told me that he thought Arsenal would win one cup and Wednesday the other, so that was fixed in my mind. Losing the first final hurt, but I quickly consoled myself with the thought that the FA Cup would soon be ours, because there's no way my uncle could be wrong. Watching Woods fumble that header was a dark moment for any Wednesdayite, but for me it was

  19. I think the EFL released a statement last week saying training etc will not start before May 16th but I don’t think it said it would definitely be happening. Imo they are just guessing dates and don’t have a clue like the rest of us when it will be safe for teams to resume training.

  21. Think with players like Reach people are very naive in thinking he won’t know how poor his form has been. He’s clearly well aware he’s not been good enough this season. Agreed he’s not the strongest tackler, but he covers tons of ground and regularly puts in vital blocks. On top of that he’s also been one of our most creative players since he first came in. And, as above, he’s being played out of position on the right. .

  22. If we just said Reach, for the next 9 games you are going to be the left winger for 90 mins every time. We would be seeing the best player at the club by the end of it.

  24. Not as bad as 1988 when we drew 1-1 against them three times and then lost the 4th replay 5-0 at home. In fact, I think we might have been 5-0 down at half-time in that game.

  30. Yes, they did, in another thread ! Anyway, here is my collection. The top one was bought from Wakefields Army Stores in Chesterfield on the way to Hillsborough in 1967. When it was proper ex-army stuff in there, it was brilliant. Rattle cost me 2/6 but it weighs a ton so I never took it again, although I painted it blue and white and wrote Fantham and Ritchie on it. It is stamped R.O.D. 1944. I've never known exactly what this means but I've been told they were used to simulate machine gun fire during army training (it's very loud). I know early examples were used as bird scarers.

  33. This is what annoys me, they all say that we’ve been inconsistent. We haven’t. We’ve been consistently embarrassing for 2-3 months, with the odd decent performance.

  34. Arsenal at Wembley (all of them). Remember my dad taking me about three times in one season. Never forget the cursing that came out of my dad's mouth when Woods threw that into the net in the last minute. When we got home my mum asked if I enjoyed it and apparently I said, "yes, apart from that sh!t house Woods" - just one of the many descriptions my Dad used to describe Woods' performance that day

  36. Westfield Owl gets it spot on for me when he says: 100% not the right man. Said so when he was appointed. I was gutted. 2 wins in 14 isn’t it - how many other EFL managers would survive a run like that So true Has anyone forgotten these results and performances since XMAS: Wednesday 0 - Blackburn 5 Luton 1 - Wednesday 0 (Luton missed a pen and 3 sitters) Wednesday 0 Reading 3 Brentford 5 - Wednesday 0 Fired by Swansea, fired by M'boro, fired by Brum. He has never won anything as a Manager in football so why should it b

  38. First away game I went to was probably the worst first defeat I watched in real time. Newcastle (A), 19th September 1999 Here’s the kicker: it was a birthday present from my uncle (also a mad Wednesdayite). He’s never stopped apologizing about it
