  1. I'm not sure any of you have read that properly. “But if I’m honest at the start of the season it wasn’t an ambition for anyone, realistically. That’s not to say we shouldn’t be fighting for that, we are. “But you can see how much work needs to be done, I’ve said that from the start.” Several first team players are out of contract at the end of the season and Monk has already made a handful of notable changes in an attempt to freshen things up going forward. ...... Ok, so does that offer any insight into what Chansiri asked Monk to d

  6. Let’s calm down a bit and read what Monk actually says in his article in the Star about the club’s ambition and what the squad can actually achieve Various OwlsTalkers state in the below thread that Monk has written off the season based upon his comments in a article in the Star. If people read Monk’s comments in said article, they will see that he hasn’t written off this season at all but has stated that he and the team will go for the playoffs, however, the squad needs a refresh if the club has real ambitions for promotion. Isn't this what every Wednesdayite knows anyway? Why do

  7. Why were the playoffs never realistic? We weren't too far short last season despite having a mostly dreadful first half under Jos, the squad was improved in the summer, and the Championship has been as mediocre as I can ever remember it this year. More than half the league should have been looking the playoffs as a realistic target this year. We finished 2 points behind Forest and 3 ahead of Preston, yet they certainly didn't say "the playoffs aren't realistic". We've a good squad on paper, they've proved they're capable in games against the best sides in the division and were thi

  8. I think the problems go a lot deeper than Monk The fact we've had poor displays under Carlos, Bullen, Josh, Bullen again, Bruce and now Monk, tells me we have some undesirables in that dressing room If we keep Monk, he's up to speed knowing who these undesirables are If we get a new manager it will take 6 months to find them out again And then we're calling for that managers head Someone needs to take a stand and force the undesirables out, I think Jos was trying to do it, and now Monk is trying to do it I'd rather we give

  9. I don’t know if we are that desperate for success we demand it, or we are bitterly jealous of the lot across the city or it’s the clubs fault for charging high prices and creating a level of expectation every season. I don’t know, but the amount of abuse directed at the manager in recent days has been ridiculous in my opinion. He might not be the next Chris Wilder or Pep Guardiola, but surely he deserves a bit more than 4 months before we judge him? He’s working with players signed by previous regimes. He’s managed to get a few loans in but they will need time to gel. The squad is ti

  10. Have backed Monk until I heard these comments. Once again it's the fans who are let down. At the start of the season I believed play-offs were a realistic aim. I thought the same before Christmas. If the manager doesn't believe it, it simply doesn't happen.

  11. My fear with that is that a new manger might want to keep a lot of the out of contract players What if the trouble makers are all out of contract, and a new manager gives them all a new 3 year contract We can kiss goodbye to all hope for another 3 years then I'd rather let Monk sort them out and be allowed to bring his own players in I'll judge Monk in 12 months time

  12. It's not that I disagree with him, but keep it to yourself, you absolute plonker. What kind of message does that send out to the fans and the players? Does he really think saying stuff like that is going to help engineer an upturn in form? Moronic.

  14. I think Monk has realised how poor the squad is and is just being honest. A massive clear out is needed for us to be serious challengers. The squad is well past its sell by date.

  15. I used to see season tickets as a badge of honour, but now see them as a badge of stupidity. To be logging on late at night to throw more money at a failed business model 6 months before the product is known, ready or due is just stupid. The whole thing is starting to anger me, and I have genuine respect for those that have the mental resolve to say enough to is enough.

  18. And this is part of the problem. The expectation we belong at the top. Football has come along way since 2000. We got left behind. We need to focus our energy on what we can do to get back there. Chucking money at it and then getting crippled by FFP whilst trying to find ways around it, will never be the answer. We gambled on that, it failed. Now we need a different plan.

  20. I’m sick of the players aren’t good enough, we can’t make the play offs , yes we have an ageing squad that needs freshening up , but hate bringing those lot from S2 into the equation but they got a squad that included Leon Clarke, Paul Coutts, Jake Wright, Gary Madine, Martin crainie promoted into the prem - most of those players now are playing in league 1 the difference is they have a manager who gets the best out of them each week.

  22. Some fans have short memories. Megson was lauded for describing his players as 'Lidl' players, for telling it as it was. What Monk has said is right, we've been nowhere near competitive for over two years and it wouldn't surprise me if he walked away in the summer.

  23. I don't think he did that any more than Monk has (who is on his own) Take out the howlers from 85 minutes onwards and we looked rock solid for a long time. Sadly the christmas period killed us (Fletcher being out) Don't forget Bruce for the most part was playing against teams who had given up their season. He was just a breath of fresh air after Jos in with what he said and putting normal players in their positions - we also thought he was here for 2 or 3 years Monk has come in with a cloud over the club due to the jokers in charge and as soon as

  24. Today a manager has to spout what the fans want to hear rather than what they should be told. Megson did it Bruce did it It's part of the job, a big part - get the fans on board you are more than half way there. Bruce didn't do much on the pitch - but he spouted the right things off it to appease the supporters Manage the press - you get more time in a job I think Monk could do a very good job here, but he needs to be a bit brighter with the media

  30. I'm wondering how many more threads there will be this week blaming Monk for everything, including climate change. It's embarrassing. We all know what the capabilities of the squad are. Limited. We all know what the financial situation is and who's fault that is. But let's put it all on Monk.

  31. People keep saying that monk as lost the dressing room...maybe, just maybe it's the actual players that keep doing this??? If Monk is sacked today that would be 6 managers in under 5 years but the same 30 man squad remains...now you don't have to be part of the detective squad to work out what the common problem is!! Maybe Monk as come in several games into a season with an open mind but has eventually worked out what needs to happen and certain players don't like it...well tough poo!!! A lot of these players have outstayed their welcome...not Gary Monk IMO. Monks comments are noth

When the fans elevate average players to iconic status which is not deserved,,,,,,,,,,,,expect repercussions when those players think they are bigger than the club and are beyond criticism........they become blind to the reality they are bang average and the backlash can be seen.............they are the equivalent of Jo Swinson thinking she is could be the next PM..........Monk has no chance whilst they are at the club

  34. What happened to... 'We will not give up until it's mathematically impossible' ? Bad management to be less than ultra positive, once the manager accepts mid table what will make the players make that extra effort. It's about inspiring people not accepting mediocrity. I'm still not calling for his head but that was a mistake.

  35. One thing about early renewals is that it puts us first in the queue for the cream of the crop. Let’s not forget that was the reason this buying of season tickets nearly 200 days before the season starts kicked off in the first place.

  37. If the stuff about Utd affects whether you get a season ticket or not then perhaps you are better off not going. They told us they were 'light-years ahead when they got promoted in 2006......swings and roundabouts that sort of thing. In the 70's they had players their fans still speak of now, Currie, Woodward, while we were at our worst. By 1979 that had turned around. I agree on the hope and the style of play but if you've had a season ticket for 20,30,40+ years then you've seen a lot worse. If the style of play continues for the next 3 months I can't see Chansiri sticking with hi

  38. It gets worse when you consider the Bruce compensation angle. Some imagined DC would use those unexpected funds to recruit a similarly high profile manager or management team, but it appears we've spent just a fraction of the compensation to offset the loss of Bruce, which has got to make you wonder what the funds were used for. But let's all blame FFP and harp on about how DC is desperate to put more money in, but simply cannot... seems more likely that he's spunked the lot.

  42. He’s completely right. He needs to reduce expectations. Fans believe we are better than we are, as does the chairman. I actually feel for Monk right now. No staff brought in, a couple loans. No real outs. I believe we will be better next season if he gets to do things the way he wants too. However I’m unsure if Chansiri is on the same page. Monk wants to improve this team. If he was to leave, the next man may not and there we are again stuck in the same cycle. I’m delighted we finally have a manager that can see straight through this spineless load of rubbish. He

  43. I don’t want to sound like a bloke with an agenda here but we have two players on our pay role who appear difficult to manage either way this is a man management skill. We have them until the end of the season and if westwood and hutchinson play against Barnsley for me we get the three points. I know hindsight is a finger pointers friend and there’s no guarantee in change but both said players are vocal and fighters. I’d find it hard to believe Barnsley would have had as much of the ball and be so comfortable on it with these two in the team. so for me it’s a failure in being able
