  1. Shoves over the ref, Winterburn shat his self. Gets labelled a fancy Dan, by a manager way out of his depth, told to leave club, he ends up at West Ham. Compared with Cantina who launched himself into a fan, gets wrapped in cotton wool by Man Utd and Ferguson, end up coming back an even better player. We as a club handled the situation badly, like we do many things.

  2. We've dropped some right testicles regarding players in the past. Cantona, Darko and also Di Canio fall in to that category. I don't doubt he said bad things about the club when he was cast aside for others ambitions. I enjoyed watching him he brightened up many a dreary Saturday afternoon.

  3. He was a magician with a football , that's all that concerned me. He isn't the first , and definitely won't be the last footballer to have a dodgy history.

  4. Definitely one of the best in my time. Complete loon but I wish we had one player with a fraction of his skill in the team now

  5. Not for me - read his book to see what he thought of SWFC.

  6. Rhodes scoring a winner is probably the most far fetched part of that post

  7. I wish we had kissed his arse like Harry Redknapp did. Best Wednesday player i have seen in my time. Des Walker not far behind that.

  9. Great footballer, but a fascist. Would prefer him to not come back for a visit tbh. Not a nice person.

  10. Good to see him back and that he remembers us with fondness. Time a great healer.

  11. By far one of the most talented and exciting players ever to grace our shirt could never question his passion or commitment on the pitch if he could channel his emotion in a better way maybe but it’s the Pablo we loved he was a joy to watch unfortunately we had a chairman at the time that was more focused on becoming the premier leagues chairman and FA yes man and he had a manager that rolled over for his wishes to discipline him players like dicanio require a different kind of man management the jobs worth’s on here won’t like that but when you get a highly strung emotional genius on your books you manage them accordingly or you face the consequences our chairman and manager did not have the skills to manage him and tried to make an example of him for their own reputation what happened is he left for peanuts and his mate followed after ripping our flair out of the team with no money to replace them and we plummeted into the lower leagues complete shambles anybody who managers staff knows if you want them you back them you can work on the differences and discipline afterwards and in-house was he right to push a ref - no was it pulled way out of proportion - yes did he run into the crowed and karate kick an fan and go on to be a club legend - no dave Richards and Danny Wilson want to hang their heads in shame paolo was wrong but the hierarchy have a responsibility to run our club in its best interests not in their own

  13. Two very good performances for Scotland in our last two group games and he seems to be really growing into the right back role. I’m delighted for him. I’ve been very critical of him before for his performances in dark blue (sorry Liam) but he definitely deserves big praise for the last two games. Great to see a Wednesday player doing well on international duty.

  14. It isn't the fault of Sky, the Premier League, Parachute payments etc that we have been ran like this. None of those factors mentioned force you to rip off supporters and pay very average players stupidly large amounts on lengthy contracts

  15. The reality was we needed him more than he needed us. Willson handled the situation badly and made things very public, he knew the character of the player and handled it the wrong way. Fergie was a brilliant man manager. All Wilson had to do was to just say "we're handling things internally", then in private kissed Di Canio's arse. You don't throw a multi million pound player under the bus when you havn;t got a pot to wee wee in.

  17. Have come back to this thread after a few days and what is glaringly abundantly clear. Is that no one has a fuc**g clue about any of it. 111 pages going round & round in circles. We’ve got the lot, bar room barristers, tap room tax experts, financial experts, clairvoyants, wise in hindsight experts, the lot!! Hundred odd pages of assumptions, misinformation, in some cases complete boll**ks, rumour, scandal, libel & slander & ‘I know best’ opinion. Owlstalk at its bullsh**ng, panic ridden, bed wetting, hilarious best!

  19. Absolutely fantastic player. Breathtakingly brilliant, he was that good - and that isn’t hype. Up there with Waddle for me. But, he couldn’t wait to leave in truth. He just used it as an excuse thereafter. IMO, nothing could have been done to enable him to play for us again. I don’t look on him fondly now or in retrospect. Either him or Carbone. I don’t recall him having any kind words for the Club either, even with hindsight. I wouldn’t have welcomed him back in the present day. I still resent his disloyalty and thereafter any signs of affection towards the Club or it’s fans.

  20. Did bury overspend or were they just victim to cowboy owners ? Steve Dale and Stewart Day should never have been allowed control of an EFL club, who is it that’s got a fit and proper persona test in place ? Oh yeh , the EFL

  21. Over Waddle? Not for me, but it is arguable Sadly it's not a debate we are likely to have at that level again. There was an elegance to Waddle, in the manner of David Gower or Roger Federer, which will always make him my choice.

  22. I remember hearing that we had signed him from Celtic and I thought “ oh that’s good, he’s probably quite handy”.... I had no idea what a bundle of talent, attitude, and charisma he was. One of our best of the best. I remember seeing him and Carbone tear the Spurs rear guard to shreds at White Heart Lane, wonderful stuff. ( they sacked Christian Gross about twenty minutes after the final whistle ! )

  23. The problem is and has been for years the huge disparity in terms of income between the Premier League and the Championship. The potential implications of getting relegated are disastrous and that is why we have the parachute payments. There is an argument that is a reward for failure, but from what I understand it is something the Premier League absolutely insists upon. Thing is, even with the parachute payment system, there are numerous examples of teams struggling in the Championship and even getting relegated to League One. The main folly of it is having a profit and sustainability system in place where a select group of teams have their income boosted by said parachute payments. Doesn't exactly make it a level playing field, does it? Another folly is that a team can clearly be breaching said rules (Wolves, Bournemouth, Leicester and I believe Brighton were sailing very close to the wind too), but you are able to escape any potential ramifications for this if you can secure promotion to the Premier League. If you don't - then you find yourself in a situation like we have. I suppose you could say it is the utlimate punishment for blowing a promotion opportunity...or in our case blowing two opportuinities. Still - something doesn't quite sit right about that.

  25. Not from me mate. I’m more from the ‘fingers crossed’, ‘it’ll be reyt’ ’we’ve seen it all before’, ‘ que sera’ school of thought. We moan it could be worse fully knowing it will probably get loads worse as it usually does. Qualify for Europe & the scousers get us banned When we were singing non stop at Wembley “we’re on our way” for an hour & a half . I pretty much knew we wouldn’t be “ on our way”! We’d have been far better singing a version of Sinatra’s famous ditty. “ we’ll fu*k it up OUR WAY”. No cunning plan I’m afraid, but at least I admit I know fu*k all about it. (Do the EFL)??? It’ll be reyt though.

  26. Can't wait til we play Middlesbrough live on sky last game of season in a relegation decider Rhodes scores a 96th minute winner. DC runs up to Gibson ,snatches his £10k hairpiece off his head and takes a dump then wipes his bum on it

  27. The club is not for sale. Was some off the cuff remark along the lines of 'if the fans want me gone I will put the club up for sale' DCs in this for the long run as long as the fans arnt screaming for blood I hope he stays personally

  28. Stop being such a drama queen. From your posting totals, you're no stranger to this site. So you'll have seen members regularly arguing about just about everything you can imagine. The very subject you chose to post about has seen all the usual hysteria, assumptions, insults, petulance, speculation, ridicule, doom mongering, pragmatism, lecturing, gallows humour etc. The idea that we all are of the same mindset and sit in wait for the occasional outsider so we can gang up on them regardless of the circumstances is just snowflake nonsense.

  30. Absolute genius the likes of which we had never seen before and certainly haven't seen since. Worth the entrance fee alone to watch him play. Harry Redknapp must have been laughing his wee wee tail off when Desperate Dan flogged him for 1.5m.

  31. I was managing JD in meadowhall at the time. We had a deal to stock Pantafolod'oro boots that Carbone and Di Canio wore. Every time they needed a pair their agent would call in and collect em. In return they did us a signing session. Both of em to do 2 hours, starting at 4pm. We'd told meadowhall management etc and by 2 they were asking us if many more were due to turn up cos they were already getting a bit crowded out on the malls. By the time they arrived, 3.45ish, they'd had to pretty much shut an entire section off. The more they shut off the more people wanted to come and see what was happening. Was absolute carnage. They did 4 til 6 and it was still heaving. Me and their agent bloke went to Mcdonalds and the pub for em, couple of meals and a few beers. They ended up signing and meeting til 8pm ish. Both absolutely brilliant. Their agent told me Di Canio had shut down Glasgow City centre when he Did a session up there. He was loving it. Wish I still had the photos, what a day that was. I rarely got to games back then cos of working weekends. However, as we were sponsored by puma the rep had season tickets etc. Offered me 3 for me and 2 mates for the arsenal game. Sat in the south, the Alcock dive was bang in front of us. Proper crazy game and I'll never forget Briscoes winner, there were limbs as the young uns say, even on the south.

  36. If only we had a player now with his kind of talent. People moan about the atmosphere at Hillsborough, bring in another Paolo Di Canio and we would have bums on seats and a quadruple of noise.

  37. He was a great player...but he isn't a particularly nice bloke. Fascist salutes and what not. If people just want to focus on his footballing ability then that's their prerogative, but to be dismissive of those who voice their displeasure at some of the man's antics is pretty absurd.

  40. Thanks. Spoke to the bailiff yesterday. He says its underfished. He's a Sheffield bloke and lives on the retirement park in Torksey with mostly other Sheffield folk! The access rights are with the local pubs fishing club and they have all 25 pegs from the pumping station up. (All fishing rights on tidal rivers are owned by the crown). They do day tickets but mostly the club attatched to the pub just have a knock up every week in summer and dont bother in winter. It's on the inside of a bend and is 12 to 15 deep inside shallowing up over the other side. Well worth a few days on the right tides I think. With a cottage behind available £35 a night self catering for the cottage not per person. Apparently the cottage is little used by anglers as these stretches are not as popular as the more upstream tidal lengths above. Gonna give it a go. Might have found a little gem.

  42. Leeds (embargo) , Forest (embargo) and Bristol (made losses of £47m up to 2018 but we’re permitted to 'invest' an estimated £12m into the club's infrastructure) have all been in breach of P&S rules. So your point is ......

  43. Completely agree that if we are found guilty and punished the blame starts and ends with DC. If anyone could still show blind faith in him after that would be mind boggling.

  44. Yes there's plenty of barbel down the bottom of the tidal. Last year I fished it lower down than torksey at littleborough on the opposite bank. Always caught but never owt big, I think biggest I had all season was 7/8lbs but there's some massive fish down there. The banks where horrendous as the tide got lower, that's where the crampons come in. The tides are a big factor down there so you want to be there an and set up an hour before high tide and fish till it starts coming back up. your best fishing it when there's 4/5ft of water on as the tide doesn't have as much affect. Take your pike tackle, there's loads of pike in torksey arm especially when the rivers up in winter as the silvers go up the arm to get out of the flow also plenty of pike as the arm meets the trent. Had some great days on there when they're having it

  46. Not much thought gone into that. You make it sound so simple and (with hindsight) blame DC for everything. If only that were the case. I wonder what you would have done (with hindsight), if you’d been unfortunate enough to be in his position. It’s easy to criticise others.
