  1. We shouldn't let this stupid narrative become normalised. A tight 1 0 win in the championship against a team who've won their last two games and made one single chance in the game is not playing 'awful'. We were excellent in defence, the midfield held their shape and we scored one of our two chances.Call it dull or unexciting fair enough. Just to remind some that we spent f all this summer and lost our manager just before the season started. Now a 1 0 home win against Stoke City to take us 3rd in the league is an 'awful' Wednesday performance. Believe me we can do a lot worse.

  4. http://oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/thread/291428/sheffield-wednesday Sheffield Weds up to 3rd they were flipping gash Pub team football played by blokes earning thousands Gary Monk has the hoodoo on us of late with his team scoring first and then just defending their lead just like Birmingham did last season Yet another poor side take 3 points off us. They had one game plan tonight, aim for fletcher at every opportunity and rough us up. We actually coped easily. However when you make Sunday league mistakes it doesn’t matter How depressing is it when we’re so painfully poo in a league where a side as god awful as Shef Weds are riding as high as they are? We were garbage but they were thrice as bad. It's flipping depressing that we are consistently beaten by flipping awful football teams playing a TP inspired 4-4-1-1 I'm no football snob but I'd stop going and practice inserting glass in my anus instead if I was a Wednesday fan. They just sit back and hope to counter attack. If they've actually got the ball they just smash it up to Fletcher, hope to pick up the scraps and cross the ball into the box regardless.

  6. Wonder if any of the boo boys will still admit to heckling Fox at the start of the season when his name was read out. Utter morons. Morgan deserves big credit for never letting his head drop and for doing his talking on the pitch with some good performances.

  9. I’ve flown from Newquay to Leeds/Bradford once or twice but I have to hire a car from Leeds/Bradford to get to Sheffield and back to the airport which is a bit of a faff. When you live on an island with only one and a half miles of road the long drive from Penzance to the hallowed turf is quite enjoyable , I can listen to Popmaster from start to finish rather than just the first two questions.

  10. I enjoyed the game, it was a bit stop start because of all the injuries, but we had good performances all over the pitch, okay we weren't fluent in our play but we weren't bad. I thought Loungo was excellent before he went off I couldn't understand the tactic of constantly firing long balls up for Reach to contest on the wing, going for headers isn't Reach's game, but we persisted with it The main thing that spoils games for me is referees, I can take a defeat, I can take a poor performance, but 90% of games me and my son just talk about the referee, fortunately last night we got a good one We looked solid as a team, and that's the way to get out of this division, Carlos had us playing glorious football in that first season, but we're no better off for it The way to get promoted is to be a solid unit, Monk knows this It might not be pretty but it's effective

  11. Why, who do you support ? I’ll be flying to Lands End, driving a 780 mile round trip and then flying back to the islands. A five mile round trip would suit me better.

  12. I'd be sad and bitter too if we had a squad as expensive as Stoke's and were stuck in the relegation zone and had only managed to create one chance against such a "flipping gash" team. Come to think of it, the football team is irrelevant - I'd be sad and bitter if I had to live in Stoke.

  21. Here we are sat in 3rd position and a top two position waiting for us if we can triumph over Leeds on Saturday. This is our highest league position since we were promoted from League One. Sure, the football hasn't been at its fluent attacking best, as it was in Carlos's first season, but we are second only to Leeds in the defence stats this season. There are however, sufficient flashes, fleeting though they have been, of really good attacking football, giving hope that we are on the right track Gary Monk's pragmatic, get it up the pitch, defensive strategy, ugly though it is, has my approval for now. Remember all the goals we conceded with the likes of BB messing about trying to beat the same player five or six times just outside the box before losing the ball and often conceding a goal. The shots at goal stats against Stoke point to our strengths and weaknesses. We had 11 shots against Stoke's 12. Of Stoke's 12 shots 9 came from set plays, which indicates that we are still giving away too many free kicks in defensive areas. OK, yes some are due to diving opponents or refereeing errors but they are mostly due to our poor play. On the other hand 10 of our 11 shots came from free play which just shows the potential that we have going forward. Stoke only had 3 shots at our goal from free play which highlights how good our defence is and our 10 efforts from free play highlights how much better our attack is than it seems. Onwards and upwards, it's the only way to go.

  29. Nah sorry, I couldn't just sit there.... Why? What is it about BB that makes him undroppable? Is it his goals? His defensive and organisational ability? His leadership? Maybe his ability to play penetrating passes? Set piece excellence? His running off the ball? I've got it, its the way he grabs the game by the scruff of the neck and dominates it... Your right HO, let it stop. This pre conceived notion that he is instrumental in all the good that we do is skewed by the fact that EVERYTHING goes through him. You're a stats man, going right back to the first time we lost Bannan to a red card in CCs first season, how have we done when he's been out for a couple of games? I'm not saying bench him indefinitely, but we're back to plan B territory again. We look better with Luongo in there, but we need more than one central midfielder getting around our single striker. I'll be fair, it's not really his fault. He doesn't have a striker spinning in behind. He hasn't got a ballsy midfield runner making space and dragging markers. Harris and Reach aren't coming ofc there wing on the diagonal too much either. We're so reliant on Harris or Reach to get us up the pitch by carrying it into advanced positions that it's back to that age old discussion about the effectiveness of wingers and how easy it is to cut off supply. We don't have naturally overlapping fullbacks to overload the opposition. So I ask again, what exactly does BB give us in this team? Answer, a selection headache because he's "undroppable" and the team needs more dynamism than it currently has. If we get a quick Vardy type striker in January, or a marauding midfielder, or a couple full backs who are comfortable and offer threat getting forward, I pretty much guarantee that we won't be having this debate, because then the lad would have better options. FFS let it stop is right....we won, I'm delighted because like I said, I'd take a 1-0 over a 5-5, but we have to offer more going forward and if we are going to play the single central striker, we have to get more bodies around him. We need to kill teams off because we will come unstuck otherwise. Rant over, my meds are kicking in. 3rd place, bring on the dirty weeds for a try at top spot again.

  31. I've deconstructed this theory many times in the past. Having a prolific scorer is no guarantee of anything (ask Blackburn in the Jordan Rhodes years) and in fact many teams are promoted without one. Indeed, we nearly did it twice under Carvalhal with a modest number as our leading scorer. With our current set up, Fletcher is more than doing his bit. A bigger problem is a lack of threat from just about everyone except him.

  40. Reach is probably our most influential player. One of the few we have who wouldn't look out of place in the Prem. Amazes me that people criticize him. But then, Fox Dawson Palmer and Nuhiu get even worse treatment. We even had a manager who took us to 4th place and was called a Clueless clown. Some of the kids on here should have lived through the 70s. We currently have a team in 3rd place who aren't even playing as well as they can. That's a good sign. We're only one point off Leeds who apparently are world beaters so I can't see why so many are moaning. Stokes team is packed with big names. They'll finish too half.

  41. I feel some posters don’t watch enough championship football of other teams if they feel we are that terrible. Cardiff got promoted with the lowest possession stats in the league. We’re just missing a creative spark, send PL winger Murphy back to Newcastle in January and replace him for someone better and we’ll be in good shape. Monk can’t fix everything before a transfer window

  42. Can’t help thinking the fun has gone out of football. Look below at the guidance for their fans on their official site. Can’t decide whether it’s a game of football or instructions for the evacuation of Goose Green Information for fans attending Saturday’s game. Leeds United have been advised of the following information ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship fixture with Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday. Supertram will withdraw its service to Hillsborough at 10:30 am on Saturday morning and it will not resume until 4.30pm in the afternoon. Leeds fans are encouraged to use another mode of transport to get to the game, as the walk to the stadium from the Station will take at least an hour. Sheffield Wednesday have a traffic management company that have indicated parking availability for Leeds fans on the following link: www.swfcparking.co.uk to pre book their space for just £5.00. The car parks are a 10 minute walk to the stadium and are safe and secure. The Company operate a pre booking service linked to a mobile ANPR system the fans will also if they wish to have the option of paying cash on the day. For fans wishing to travel into Sheffield early and get the tram, the stadium will open at 10:00am, and food and drinks will be available. There are no pubs in the Hillsborough area that will accept away fans, but Leeds supporters are more than welcome at the stadium. Please note alcohol is on sale pre match but not half time. Parking for coaches will be on Claywheels Lane in Sheffield, and we believe that any coaches booked will be given an arrival time slot so that parking is managed effectively for all buses. Anyone who has not yet booked transport and would like to travel with the official Leeds United coaches, please contact the Ticket Office. For any further information or guidance please contact sloquestions@leedsunited.com
