  2. There’s a difference though isn’t there between voicing your discontent and taking every opportunity of trying to publicly humiliate the Chairman of the club you purport to support with continuous slurs and bile! If people have had enough of yours and others constant negativity then that’s unfortunate too!

  3. Makes it very difficult for us to comply with FFP when Premier League Clubs are pulling stunts like this. As a minimum we should be able to offset the £2m we should have received as part of the calculation for FFP.

  4. If we are going through kits that we didn't have many good performances in, then its going to be a looooonnnnng thread

  5. I personally see FFP as being, ironically, unfair! Footballs never been ‘fair’. I remember in the 90s it all being about getting a rich Chairman, and you were half way to winning something. Take Blackburn for example, low crowds in comparison ie less income as a club, but Jack Walker bank rolled them and they won the Premier League. Nobody complained, it was just the way it was. Ourselves, Derby etc finally get the rich Chairman/owners and they’re having to go to these extreme lengths to spend their own money! Don’t get me wrong, owners getting the clubs up to their eyeballs in debt and risking the clubs future isn’t right, but if the owner has the means to spend without risking the clubs future then what’s wrong with that? I don’t begrudge Wolves doing what they did and sticking two fingers up at FFP because they were lucky enough to get rich backers. What next in the name of ‘fairness’? Should all clubs defined as being 100 miles or more north of London have a 12 point head start on the other teams due to the fact that southern clubs can attract better players more easily due to their preferred geographical location? In my opinion all DC is trying to do is exploit a loophole to spend his own money, which I believe he, and other chairman, should be able to do without leagues interfering in the name of ‘fairness’.

  6. It’s a decent sign of how far we’ve fallen in the football pecking order when clubs like Leicester are givin it the ‘big club’ thing. I’ve got yoghurts in the fridge with more history.

  7. It's so obvious that it was always the plan for him to go to Leicester to get around paying us a decent fee.

  9. I have no issues with a young player wanting to better himself and earn more money. George Hirst wanted a wage we couldn’t give him but Leicester City could, that’s fair enough. But if that is the case, sign for Leicester. Don’t go out of your way to spend a year in Belgium just to screw the club over that developed you into the player you are out of compensation they are rightfully owed. Coincidentally this is also the club he “claims” to support. Thats what I have a problem with and it says an awful lot about George Hirst. I would add however, George has wasted the last 2 years of his career, the first sat around doing nothing and the second playing in the Belgian second division where his goals to games ratio was nothing short of pathetic. Just because his dad was good, that’s no guarantee he will be too and Dejphon Chansiri was absolutely right not to offer him a first team wage.

  10. Not really bitter. Couldn’t care less about his financial gains. More bothered that his Dad a supposed Wednesdayite helped screw us out of compensation, particularly given our issues with FFP. Wednesday legend eh?

  11. Stopped us from getting compensation money essentially. Some Wednesdayite.

  13. Other big clubs will be watching this, and if fit goes unpunished the flood gates will open. Small clubs will go bust, and many others will just sack off their youth policy which will have a massive impact on the local community. The football authorities simply have to get involved here.

  16. Legend? Shown no loyalty to a fanbase who worshipped him at his feet. A fanbase who would have adored his son. If George wanted to move on, that is fine. But to screw us out of compo, that’s low for me.

  17. I hate change...with Wednesday I know I'm a dinosaur and I know I'm probably wetting the bed over nowt...but it makes me feel insecure. I don't feel comfortable with the "D-Taxis"..I don't feel comfortable with a drink that if you had to rely on it..you would be dead in 3 days.... and in no way would I feel comfortable with Hillsborough being called owt bar Hillsborough I'll go along with it...as if I had a choice...but it smells plastic...it smells desperate...it smells different.... I don't like stuff that smells different...I never know whether to eat it or not

  18. Perhaps Mandaric was there to help him, as was Aldridge and to a lesser extent Wilkinson. But other people were also advising in the form of Thai Pete and Doyen. DC chose a different route to take that almost resulted in promotion. Sport is always decided on small margins though and "almost" ultimately turned out to be our undoing. My take on it from the outset was not to try to change too much too quickly. Stick with the foundations that Mandaric had left and then build on it with the extra investment. I was a protagonist of the experienced Championship manager or coach be left alone to build his own team. I was against transfer committees and the like. Perhaps now I can claim to be right but now I have the benefit of hindsight. I would have been wrong had we been promoted in either of the two play-off years. I want DC to ultimately be successful because, if he's successful, so are Sheffield Wednesday. I am just glad we are now back to having a successful Championship seasoned campaigner at the helm and hope he can now build without some of the outside influences that I strongly believe took DC on the wrong path previously.

  20. More fantastic governance. We aren’t allowed to spend our own money, but we can have our prospects taken for us for nothing via ridiculous loopholes. Fùck football.

  21. Hard to complain too much about exploitation of poor rules and loopholes given our supposed situation with the ground and FFP. We shouldn't have let it get to this point. We needed to be more savvy and cashed in when it was apparent where this was going a couple of years ago. Think we showed some inexperience in the market with how we handled the situation, and hopefully we learn from it.

  22. I’d be lodging a complaint to the FA. Plenty of evidence they tried their sign him, signs for a club owned by the same owners (feeder club) and then joins Leicester as planned all a long. It’s a massive fu*k off to the rules even though it’s a loophole. I’m in no doubt we will get no compensation although I’d feel any team in the same situation should. I think it’s important that we make a huge fuss about this so it doesn’t happen to other clubs who desperately rely on that money just to survive in the future. Especially just so the elite can save less than 1% of their turnover. Just to add, I’ve no problem with a youth player wanting to future themselves, but the way he’s gone about it, shafting the club that trained him, especially the one he supports it’s pretty disgusting.

  26. Ah that old chestnut is doing the rounds is see - We’re not allowed to be annoyed by Hirst’s actions, because...wait for it...we’ve used some loop holes to get around a poorly implemented and pretty unfair P&S system. Still paying our bills, still paying our players and staff, still paying our taxes. Hirst's camp weren’t interested in P&S rules when they demanded daft wages for an unproven kid. Same as any player. Could argue that clubs get into trouble because of agents and players making demands. Let’s be honest, players hold all the cards these days. Of all the criticisms I’ve got of Chansiri, the Hirst saga isn’t one. A However you look at it; We paid for his development over a long period of time. Paid for his hotels, his travel, his medical bills. Maybe he doesn’t owe the club anything, but as the club that developed him we deserved to get some payment - might not have been much, but leaves a bad taste given the fact we desperately need some revenue for the flippin P&S gonads.

  27. Instead of moaning about the loop hole we should just be doing a similar thing ourselves assuming that Chansiri is still saying he’d chuck millions at us if he was allowed. Buy Bangkok United or the likes for a few dollar and then get them to buy Fox and Nuhiu for £80 million a piece FFP sorted and half of Owlstalk can gloat about one of them in particular being one of the highest value players ever Whats not to like

  29. Why? Because the Premier League club turned up waving its wee pipe and its money around? If a club values its young talent then it reserves the right to protect said talent as one of its assets. The issue of the 1 year on the contract was between SWFC and George Hirst. The issue here is that there is a system in place where the Premier League club in this example is able to circumvent rules and payments, to sign the player for one of its owned clubs in a foreign country where the same rules and payments aren't applicable, then transfer the player "in house" to the Premier League club a year later. I suggest you strap on your big boy pants and try and understand that latter point if you want to discuss the issue on here, instead of this patronising b*llocks that we should have accepted whatever pocket change Leicester threw at us because you think that's how football works.

  30. Not as if Leicester have any history of dirty, underhanded, vile dealings is it ......... Well not if you discount going into administration TWICE and paying creditors, many of them their own supporters, less than a penny in the £. Fcukin TWICE!!!!

  36. Well that depends on how you look at it ante...Sold our souls? Not really, we had little to do with it, could we control owt that went on with Mandaric, pre Mandaric or post Mandaric? I doubt it. Your soul and your affiliation are something that can't be bought and sold aren't they...? ....Delphjon Chansiri can't stop me being a Sheffield Wednesday fan, he can own the club, he can ban me from Hillsborough..He can do pretty much what he likes..he's paid the money..but He can do absolutely Jack about what I see as the club, the institution and simply the name... "we sold our souls"?..We had sod all to do with it....We went along with the push for promotion..in the same way a lot of us went along with the plunge down the bloody leagues and towards admin...turning up, supporting a club that for most of us has had little to do with football and more to do with identity, history and loyalty.... I can't really be accused of riding a sodding gravy train, along with thousands of others who turned up when we were crap....Its my club, and as far as I'm concerned, I will ALWAYS consider it MY club...Its got sod all to do with Delphjon. Thats simply how I see it...and you can all shout deluded...folk can think what they like ..as can I... I don't hold any animosity towards our Chairman...I hope he gets it right...he's spent enough, no doubt he cares enough, and if he should get it right..or even half right...I'll cheer him to the rafters... If he gets it wrong...Head down keep goin'....He will never stop me supporting Sheffield Wednesday..cos whilever theres a brick of Hillsborough standing...I'll nip down an' touch it of a Saturday...No matter what the f.ook Delphjons doin'

  37. Is that DeeJayOne's todger at the bottom of the picture?
    6 points
  38. Not the point. This is a deliberate circumnavigation of the rules. Stuff like this is why clubs having links/ownership with other clubs was stopped in the first place. The whole thing stinks in so many ways. If Leicester want him, buy him. If they can’t agree a price, wait until the contact expires. Leicester want the book throwing at them, and I sincerely hope the FA and UEFA get involved, suspend the transfer and the lad rots for 12 months.
