Yeah let's get rid after getting him fit for the last 2yrs :ghoulguy:

Well of course we will try and get him fit. If a disease started to grow from his injured knee how do you think we will sell him.

Think there was a Portuguese article that said he was keen to prove himself with us and that we'd only be able to get him out on loan as his wages are higher than most over there can afford. So we'd have to pay some of his wages while out on loan.

Carlos said at the beginning of last pre - season (or the one before) that Melo 'was a very important player for us.' That would suggest that he rates him but it will all come down to fitness.

The fact he played the last half a season is a good sign. Maybe he'll be Semedo's replacement and be back up for Hutch when we need a midfield anchor?

No harm in giving Melo pre-season training and games IMO. We have invested heavily in him over two years and it would be prudent to give him a chance to show what he can do. He sounds like he is desperate to prove himself here and that hunger is something I'd like to see in all our signings. Whether he is good enough in terms of ability now that he is fully fit is another question but he deserves the chance at least.

Re fitness, that is for the club to determine but only this week Notts Forest have been offered, and turned down, 8 million for Assambolonga a player who has had very serious injury problems, whilst Sam Hutchinson is a great example to all that demonstrates players can overcome serious issues.

Melo matias and abdi could be like three new signings. Seen nowt of any of them.

these foreign nancies.  As soon as it gets cold they go missing and start wearing gloves cos they cannot handle the gusts of icy wind swirling over Middlewood/ Hillsborough.

Love from Singapore.

It's like last pre-season all over again.

Melo and Matias like new signings.

We all know what will happen, Melo will play a few games in pre-season and look okay then disappear until January and be sold.

Matias will look good in pre-season and then get injured and be forgotten about until the last month of the season.

We have to draw the line somewhere and senior pro's that haven't contributed for 2 seasons should definitely be moved on IMO.

No doubting Matias has quality, but does he have the physicality, body reliability, and mental strength to play for Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship? As for Melo, he was supposedly injured for most of last season, then seemingly made a miraculous recovery and went out on loan. Given the lack of numbers we had available in central midfield for the second half of the season (Lee and Abdi injured, Bannan blowing hot and cold, Hutchinson's record of injuries and suspensions, and Jones taking time to settle in), if Melo had a future I'm sure he'd have stayed and played a part.

The squad needs trimming and the players who contribute very little should be the first out of the door.

i'm inclined to agree - i'd probably get rid and bringing in someone with a proven non-injury record!
