Not it sure about players taking a free kick to themselves: when is a free kick taken or the player just positioning the ball? Nor goal kick being taken from the side the ball went out of play. As frustrating as it can be at times if you get the breakthrough in the end the opposition usually have no chance of getting an equalizer with the time left. Especially when we start doing it.
