As much as we're all frustrated about aspects of last season, and know where we think we should strengthen, if we have better luck with injuries (to key players) we'll have a much better chance full stop. We expect it from Hutch but to lose Lee, Hoops, FF, Lees, Wallace (in the last match). Even BB for a while...

Better luck would be most welcome!!!

It is no coincidence that our best spell of results came when we only had two CMs fit.

Injuries did Carlos a big favour.

What do do you think would have happened if instead of having no choice but to pick...

Reach - Jones/Lee - Bannan - Wallace

Hooper Fletch/Rhodes

FF and Hutch had been fit.

He would have played the semi team, which had been awful.  Wouldn't have made the top six.

Doesn't wash with me.

He has spent a fortune to be able to cope with injuries

Bar 2 or 3 of his MANY signings they have all been a complete waste of money

It all comes down to terrible recruitment

Not really bad recruitment but bad tactics.

The team that lost to Huddersfield was the same team minus Hooper who lost to Hull last season.

To many favourites and not enough balls to drop them.

Why does it?

Rhodes, Reach, Pudil, Fletcher and Jones played a massive role in our surge from 7th to 4th late season.

It all comes down to utterly terrible management. Changing a winning side, a winning set-up and a winning team-spirit.....for that!!!

I feel we could have had the worlds best midfield and Carlos would still go with Hutch, Bannan and Lee in midfield.

Sadly I have no confidence he will address this and this will be our downfall yet again.

Yet it's fantastic news he's signed in n for another season? Don't get it all .

Couple of things...

  1. How much is down to the way the management team was disbanded early on. There was a whole team of people, including Glen Roeder & Adam Pearson, who were initially responsible for the direction the club was going in, including signing players at the time CC joined. That team gradually disbanded or left, but some great signings were made during that time - Wallace, Forestieri, Bannan, Pudil on loan, Hooper on loan, Matias, Lopez & Joao... quite a few who went on to become 1st choice team players. After they left, it became rather more scattergun.
  2. In that 1st season with CC, you have to remember that we still relied on loan players a lot. And quite a few positions didn't have quality back up. In the 2nd season, the better loan players were signed up, and we got much better quality back up players.

All in all, we started from nowhere when Chansiri came in, he built on the foundation of the 1st season to make us so much more secure in the 2nd. And now in the 3rd, we don't have to build a squad from scratch anymore, it's about fine-tuning and adding greater quality in key positions... apart from defence which wasn't built up like it should've been last summer.

Abdi the best midfilder in our squad doesn't even get a mention.

How can you possibly come out with a statement like that?

Best midfielder in our squad - Come on

Can't really argue with that. Injuries to key players at the wrong time can dictate your season - Brighton in the play-off semi's last year being a perfect example of that.

I guess you could argue we've spent a lot of money and have a big squad, so injuries should have minimal impact?

Not minimal impact. But we didn't have to scramble for loan players to get by.

Because we couldn't (loan system prevents this now).

True. Which makes me realise that we HAD to get in players as cover - and not all would have been expected to be first choices (because we don't have infinite money with the FairPlay rules).

All of which means we've had two squad building years and now we need to concentrate on quality.

how many seasons did Huddersfields manager have to build his promotion squad?

this is rubbish that it takes years to build a squad, where were Fulham last year
