Intensity

Recommended Posts

More intensity. That's all it was and we looked a different side. We didn't create loads of chances but just the quicker movement of the ball changes everything. It puts a spring in our step and changes how the opposition defends. Here's hoping we stick to it. COME ON WEDNESDAY!!

The intensity we played with yesterday compared to the intensity we play with normally this season. It was more yesterday imo.

If you think we've played like that all season I think you are watching out of blue tinted glasses. Sorry but that yesterday was last seasons team. The one that attacked, the one that moves the ball (and players) forward. When he was backed into a corner he decided to let them play and proved our point down to a T! Hope he lets the poor players play football not keepball for the rest of the season. Then and only then will be go up! WAWAW

Totally agree with the second sentence. I'd back us against any team that turns up with the intention of attacking us and playing a more open game. What's more of a concern is the playoff games, should we make it. They will be cagey affairs and we've struggled against teams that look to frustrate us, that said anything can happen with a bit of luck.

Our full backs were available to receive a pass further up the pitch yesterday. Newcastle played the game more stretched as Norwich did.

Cardiff will close all those spaces down so those passes won't be on for us on Friday. Might need to go a bit more direct or use Hooper to link deeper to create. Colin will make it messy, you can be sure of that.

No, we've played that way all season, except Newcastle didn't camp 11 players behind the ball. We could attack

You are joking were you at wolves home or Brentford the other week? I agree teams that come out we find it easier but too many times we have been the team to camp in our own box.

They might have wanted to attack more, but certainly didn't. I can't remember them having an attack until shelves shot from his own half! ....unlike say Brentford, who came to defend, yet spent the first 30 minutes in our half

Spot on. For a change, we looked for a forward pass first and did it from the off which immediately gets the fans behind you and hence the improvement in atmosphere

Agreed just hope our fans are patient and don't expect the same sort of game as Colin will use every trick in the book to ruin the game.

Not just the intensity it was as slight change it tactics, similar to last season. You could see it in the warmup. Wallace and reach both kept wide in the first half and up to the first goal, in previous games they were constantly moving inside providing no width at all.

Wallace is a much better player when he does this with hunt overlapping.

Absolutley. But sadly many fans think every game is played in the same manner (or should be)

Id agree we played at a higher intensity than we have done previously however Newcastle weren't prepared to sit. They came at us, which created more room therefore the necessity to pass and move quicker. We find it much harder when a side comes for a point with two solid banks of 4 and more often than not 11 men behind the ball.

We have to learn to find a way to break these sides down.

I don't agree. The pace of passing was much quicker yesterday not allowing Newcastle to get settled as a defensive unit. That was the biggest difference for me.

It might be heresy to say it but one of the differences is between the way Jones plays as against Hutch

Hutch drops between the centre halfs to pick the ball up and often just rolls it to the full backs with the occasional long diagonal ball.

He is obviously a better tackler and header of the ball

However Jones plays a bit further forward,  his first thought is to move the ball forward quickly and generally we retain possession and have a bit more momentum in our play. He can struggle if it gets stuck on his right hand side but he is very calm under pressure

To my mind a combination of things.  Above all the contribution of Hooper.  Also all individuals pretty well on their games.  And playing with patience.  I for one am quite happy to see the ball worked sideways and even backwards if this is the prelude to us then springing something.  In some of our weaker performances we've played without faith in our ability to create chances.

A very good performance, but like supporters of pretty well every other club we perhaps have a tendency to overstate the differences between our best and worst outings
