New Ground? Make it big enough for a Sheffield Twenty20 cricket team

Recommended Posts

ECB said today that there will be 8 city teams playing 20 20 cricket next season. Theres nowhere in Sheffield that could stage this at the moment. 20 20 would be a massive draw in Sheff. Crowds average 28,000 in Australia. Much bigger in India

This would be a fantastic money spinner for a new stadium. All the games will take place in the close season. With todays tech it should be possible to get both sports in one ground.

The timing might be perfect for Wednesday and Chansiri. Lets get cricket back in Sheffield. Our roots are as a cricket team. Much as i love Hillsborough finally get s new stadium and make new history there. Its a perfect fit

SAGS would never stand for it...

The Wicket keeper would have to stand behind a screen in case the f.ookin' ball hit him....The bowler would have to go off his short run up, cos of the netting behind him, that was there in case mid off an' mid on had a set to...

Silly mif off would have 3 stewards ..and short leg would need a fire certificate

Any new ground needs a roof. There isn't a single arena in England with a capacity of 25000 capable of hosting major events in the winter- concerts, boxing, UFC etc.

Sheffield is ideally located. A 35-40,000 stadium with a roof would have huge crossover appeal. Granted it would be hugely expensive, but if funding could be secured it would be the first real large scale multipurpose indoor/outdoor arena of its kind in the U.K.

Hillsborough could easily host a Ski jump...ramp from the 5 arches to the Kop roof...
