dunsbyowl
21st March 1896 It was FA Cup semi final day in Liverpool - Wednesday fans outnumbered Bolton fans and the Olive Grove Band took their horns, rattles, bugles and bells to Goodison Park ! Came across this fine sketch of the game that ended 1-1 with a goal by Archie Brash and Wednesdayites could look forward to a replay 5 days lateron a Thursday afternoon ! Guest
Just a note on our goalie that day, Jimmy Massey. Having won the FA Cup with us, represented the County FA and played for us in the Football League for some reason he left football for a number of years, to work in the collieries. After two years away from the game he did make a return to football, with a chance encounter at a railway station highlighting his absence from the game and his return to his first club Denaby United. Sadly his work in the collieries led to an accident where he lost the use of an eye. Edited March 21, 2017 by Guest
