Villa Beers

Recommended Posts

Can't offer any suggestions on drinking locations, never been to Villa but just to say (may have already been mentioned mind)  that Villa don't sell any alcohol in the away section. My work colleague (Derby fan) went when they played there recently and said they didn't sell any.   Maybe due to having a really small concourse. (his words) and to reduce congestion... I dunno but as I say, just FYI.

Cheers.

Our train gets into New Street just gone 10am. Where is best to head for drinks pre match? Also never been to Villa Park so how is the best way to get there from the city centre?

When we usually play Birmingham - we head up to Broad Street. 10 mins in a taxi, or a 20 minute walk. All different pubs down there, including spoons, o'neils etc etc.

Then just get a taxi up to ground - probably take 20 mins or so.

There's literally loads, like literally. Not just in Solihull but everywhere. Just head for one of them. They all sell beer you can't go wrong mate uto

yeah just looked on the map and it is out of the way ( A Birmingham Fan told me that).

There is a Wetherspoons in Erdington so you could have sorted early beers for us there pal!! Cheers

Been told that it might be best stopping in Solihull for the Villa game for a few beers before the match (we are going on a minibus)

Where are you driving from? Leicester?

It was a brummie fan that gave the advice who has relocated to Sheff so he's probably been coming from South of Brum?

Soz

I just down want you to drive past where you need to be; you could also get caught up with airport traffic by heading towards Solihull.

If you're heading in on the train, the boozers around Villa Park are crap - all pay on the door. Head to the ground as late as possible.

There's a new All Bar One in New Street Station. Nearest spoons to the station is Briar Rose on Bennetts Hill. Nearest decent real ale pub is The Old Joint Stock in St Philips Square. Broad Street is an overpriced dive.

I probably wouldn't bother with Solihul, too far out the way, nowhere to park or drop off, and full of Villa / BCFC fans. If you're driving in, you're better off stopping in Erdington. Lots of villa fans but near to the motorway for access.

Best way to get to the ground from city centre; train. Too far to walk, and roads get closed before the match so taxis get stuck in traffic.

Make sure you get off at Witton and not Aston. Witton is a 5 min walk from the away end. Aston is a half hour walk.

You're welcome!

If you're coming in to New Street The Wellington is one of the best real ale pubs in the country, that's just up the road. There's a Weatherspoons just down the hill from there too that usually fills up with away supporters because it's near the station.

Trains and buses head out to the ground but I'd get a taxi if there's enough of you to split the fair. There's Uber in Brum and you can get a tenner off your first trip if you install the app. (They may be immoral scum though, depends if you believe the news reports or not)

That Wetherspoons I think is called the Tyburn and got good parking for the minibus plus if you want there is good bus service that goes straight past the pub and pretty much takes you to the ground it'll save you having to find parking...

Never been, but heard it's now completely away fans rather than being segregated. Was a few quid to get in about 10 years ago so guessing that might have gone up a bit.

If there's a big attendance it might be worth going back to New Street from Aston station - there's a spur in the line between Aston and Witton, so more trains serve Aston than Witton. (Queue for Witton usually snakes down the ramp and halfway up the road.)
