What's the point?

According to many on here, we can't move from Hillsborough, its our home (even though we've moved before)

Can't change the badge (even though that's changed a number of times)

Can't drop the stripes (even though there are a number of examples where the home kit hasn't been traditional stripes.) Despite record shirt sales too.

We can do it all. Whether we should or not is another matter.

Best selling non blue and white striped shirt in history lol

it would be unique

It actually would and wouldn't at the same time. There were quite a number of other cricket clubs that spawned Wednesday football teams, we were just the ones who got to be the biggest and most famous where others such as Darlington Wednesday etc fell by the wayside.

I do think we were the first to be called it, this would be an interesting thing to look into. Either way we are seen by the public as a whole as generally the only club to ever be called it so it matters little anyway.

as far as the ground is concerned we've only had two long term stadiums and seen as we were evicted from one of them so we had no choice then I don't see the" lets move brigade" can use the we've moved before card .

There aren't many clubs in England that are not named after their area. I think we have Arsenal, Crystal Palace and Port Vale and that's it. In Scotland there are loads, Rangers, Celtic, St Johnstone, Hearts, Hibs etc, I think it goes to show it doesn't really matter all that much.

I think I am right in saying that Crystal Palace in an area of London but Selhurst Park is not in that area.

Also Everton is an area of Liverpool and Everton have never actually played in that area.

I would not lose any sleep over changing us back to 'The Wednesday Football Club' for one season but given the choice I would rather not. Clubs in modern football have less and less connection with the local area and this would be another step away from that.

Am I the only one who thinks Sheffield is an important part of the name?!

Should be proud of it. Certainly shouldn't want them at the lame to monopolise it.

its important to me and proud of it too, take it away and the global appeal disappears.

I'd definitely do it for next season for the 150th and if its popular keep it from there.

I don't think calling ourselves this would make us any less "Sheffield" as some have suggested.  Are Everton any less scouse because they don't have "Liverpool" in their name? Are Villa any less Brummy? Arsenal any less London? Port Vale any less Stokey?

the wednesday sounds like a sunday morning pub team, we need to keep our tradition and foreign football supporters need to be able to identify us from where we come from, imagine when abroad, who do you support, the wednesday, oh who are they and where do they play, thats embarrasing i would say.

We last moved ground back in the 1800s.  Come on.

Hillsborough is flipping sacrosanct.

I think you might have missed my point

It was a dig at the loud minority of people on here who seem to fear change and are constantly whinging about the club changing the badge/kit etc

I'd be happy to have it for a season to celebrate 150 years but I wouldn't trust mr chansiri to change it back. He's a brilliant chairman taking us in the right direction but doesn't have much respect for fan opinion. Neg away.

I don't think it's a question of fear it's more about why ......I can understand (if not agree) that fans fancy a new stadium and it may help the club forward but to change the kit so radically  just because the new owner doesn't like stripes is a step to far for some of us ....99% were happy with stripes ,I don't think I ever saw a thread where fans were advocating to change to a solid blue , now we have a kit that around 50% hate . why wazz off so many fans there was no reason to do it other than the whim of the owner

The team originally played in Crystal Palace, only moving to Selhurst Park later. Like Millwall: they've been on the wrong side of the Thames to the actual Millwall area for more than a century.
