Howards Open Letter

I wish to confirm to supporters, that today at the High Court, the winding-up petition brought against the Club by HMRC has been dismissed.

There has been a lot written and said about us, HMRC and the Co-operative Bank in the past few days and I want to address Wednesdayites directly about what has been happening and what it means for the future of our Club.

First and foremost, I wish to thank the Co-operative Bank for coming to the support of Sheffield Wednesday when we needed them most. Although the medium to longer term financial health of the Club is moving in the right direction, we have had a major short term problem.

HMRC have, quite rightly, been targeting the football industry and the reality is that we have needed help from our bank to pay our outstanding bills. The Co-operative Bank have acted diligently and shown great understanding in their discussions with Nick Parker and myself in recent days and when this club needed them most, the bank demonstrated this in the way they supported and backed Sheffield Wednesday.

I do wish to place on record my thanks to all those people who have shown their genuine and solid support for Sheffield Wednesday in recent days. In particular, I would like to thank our Chief Executive Nick Parker, who has worked tirelessly with me to get a resolution to this matter.
Article continues
Advertisement

There were many others, who when the chips were down, demonstrated their real allegiance in other invaluable ways. Nick and I have certainly discovered who we could really rely on in the past 48 hours! I would also like to thank everybody, from both in and outside of the club, who has passed on their messages of support to me in the past few days.
Just discussing the possibility of administration has made me even more determined to do everything that I can to avoid this club, our club, from being docked ten points. The positive work that has been done at Sheffield Wednesday over the summer, both on and off the field, must not be undermined.

Too many people truly care about this club for us to allow it fail. We must not allow ourselves to be distracted by the politics and history of how Sheffield Wednesday has ended up in this situation! We must now focus on steering the club through the many challenges that still lay ahead in order to ensure we emerge stronger than ever.

Let me be clear about one thing. The dismissal of the winding-up order only brings to an end our most pressing problems. We now need everyone who truly cares about the club to rally together and do what they can to help. For Alan and his team, this is to continue the fantastic start that they have made to the season, and for our supporters it is to remain firmly behind the team and cheer them on to victory.

I would like to believe that the discussions of the past few days have certainly focused minds. It is true to suggest that potential investors have played a part in the dialogue with the Co-op Bank. Words of support, of course, are always welcome, but as in the real game, actions speak louder than any words and action is what we need to see now! The club is now set up to throw off the problems of the past. Our friends and potential partners know what can be achieved here, but we need investment, not words or promises!

WHY PROTEST ?

In my opinion

The title of "Sheffield Wednesday Director" needs to be seen as "MONUMENTAL FAILURE" in everyones eyes. That way they may eventually want to dissassociate themselves from the club.

From the current directors point of view there is no point wineing and dining guests at Hillsborough if all they are going to get is shown up for the failures that they truely are and hassle from Sheffild Wednesday supporters. We need to be vocally and visually active in making bold statements that highlight their incompetance

We can turn their status as Directors into nothing more than utter failures, we need to make them embarrassed

Embarrassing them in front of potential business partners etc is the way to put additional pressure on them in my opinion because by making Hillsborough unatractive as a place that they would normally entertain guests, we will take away one of the main benefits of being a Director at our glorious club.

I have no idea which is the best way to do it ? Im open to suggestions and hope that lots of ideas can be embraced at the same time

Imagine the following scenario

Mr "Calculator" is on the brink of doing a deal with some potential clients who may be considering adding him to their current board. Mr Calculator invites them to the football club he has helped destroy over the last 10+ years to enjoy the Executive facilities, have a wonderful meal, sample the biscuits, shake hands on a prosperous future and enjoy a good game of football from a team recently re-named HMS pisstheleague.

On approach to the ground Mr Calculator and his guests are greated with insulting truths about his last 10 years in a vocal display of gigantic proportions. The insults, truths and chanting continue for as long as possible until they are out of earshot.

Whilst in the ground rumbles can be herd from all angles of the incompetance of the director in question and even the club staff are spouting dirty looks in a certain direction. Upon taking comfortable seats to watch the game there is an unmistakeable sea of black baloons bouncing all over the ground, and the even more unmistakeable sound of 20,000 Wednesdayites chanting "foook off bobby, fooook off bobby"

The second half arrives and as Mr Calculators guests stand up for refreshments they again are greated with another chant aimed again at our current board "TIME TO GO, TIME TO GO"

This continues throughout the second half,

The game finishes 4-0 to the owls and as the incompetant fool trys to shake hands and arrange transport for his guests they are greeted to a massive bank of Wednesdayites outside the South stand again hurling voiciferous (if thats even a word) truths and abuse at the said person.

Is Hillsborough now the place Mr Calculator would even dream of entertaining suited guests in the future ? I hope not, and I hope we can at least do some of these things to embarrass the three stooges in front of their guests.

*Rant over

Boycott a game???

Right first off I am not saying let’s do this I'm just interested in what you guys think.

The JPT has drawn us against chesterfield at home and it’s on T.V. so season ticket holders will have to buy tickets to this game like everyone else. could we by means of protest refuse to go to this game (it’s on T.V. anyway so we could all still watch it) and really send a message to the club that unless things change and people are held accountable or at least things become more transparent, that we as fans will stop spending money, then they really will be up shit creek!! plus this is a meaningless trophy and after the loss sat we all know we need to be at our best to win this league.

I would never not want to support our team but desperate times surely call for desperate measures. And if we went into admin the likes of the bank and Allen would lose out so maybe they would all be more keen to strike a deal and take bigger losses on their debts to avoid losing almost everything?

Please don’t kill me like I said it’s just an idea

How many of our players would be aware of what was going on?
Or would AI have the players focused on the game and nothing else?

If there's a protest at 1pm under the South Stand, isn't that the same time the players arrive?

And with the after match sit-in, won't the players be coming back out for a cool-down?

Hopefully there won't be any protesting during the match, come on Wednesday!

Is it affecting the performances?

Wilkinson recently pointed out in an interview how important it is to shield the problems off the field from the players. Clearly, to a great extent, that would be impossible. The players must know themselves more than us supporters the depth of the problems.

Everybody saw the difference in performance between Hartlepool and Brentford. Chalk and cheese come to mind. Our players are better than that performance on Sunday.

It is only speculation but does anybody feel like I do that winding up threats and possible administration can damage us on the field as well (referring more here to motivation and mindset rather than players having to leave the club).

It must be terrible as a team and team management to think that all the hard work getting ten points from the first five games can be undone because some imbeciles in the boardroom can't do their jobs well. What a way to walk onto the pitch at Brentford.

Also the lack of security. Players must feel that if the situation gets worse, they may not even be paid. The players may even be able to detect the mood of the fanbase on this issue.

Don't take any of this as fact. They are my thoughts alone on what the situation is like.

Reserves vs Port Vale

As I live about 2 minutes from Vale Park, I thought I'd pop down and have a gander at the reserves playing tonight. Hot dog was expensive & rubbish. Still, £3 to watch the Wednesday? Bargain.

First things first - we lost 1-0. Line up included Tommy Miller, Richard Hinds, Luke Boden & Liam Palmer. All played 90 minutes (no subs whatsoever). We wore the yellow & blue kit (cursed obviously).

First half we were pretty terrible. We played very much on the counter - slamming balls in to Modest and Oliver - but with passes going all over the place we looked ragged. Port Vale outpassed, out-thought and out-ran us for large periods. Saying that, they themselves only had a few wide shots to show for their efforts.

Tommy Miller should maybe have done better when he came close with an early header which went straight at the keeper, but generally we failed to to create anything of note. James Cottingham was the pick of the poor bunch, looking at least fairly inventive (albeit wasteful) when on the ball. Despite his header, Miller wasn't at the races at all, letting the game by-pass him and leaving Liam Palmer (who was booked for a rash tackle) to do the chasing, and the talking. Sam Eckhardt & Richard Hinds looked fairly solid at the back against a relatively small Vale strikeforce. Vale should have scored right at the end of the half with a free header but it thankfully drifted wide.

Half time. 0-0. Grabbed a bottle of Giles Coke & a Mars bar. Saw Rooney score on the TV in the foyer.

Second half we looked a completely different & better team. Actual pass & move football, playing through midfield! Modest put himself about a lot more, coming deeper to receive a lot of passes and showing very decent pace and touches. Boden & Miller got forward a lot more too, the latter forcing their keeper into good saves with a couple of low shots following decent passing moves. Liam Palmer was starting to make his mark as well - strong on the ball, combative off it, always pushing forward - really impressed. Rookie left-back Nick Haywood looked to bomb forward when he could too, showing he's got a nifty left peg, good pace, good vision and a solid head clearing the ball. He scraped the bar with a cross mid-way through the half too.

Then, unfortunately, Boden played the mother of all suicide balls accross his own box which led to a messy panic and us conceding a penalty. However young Arron Jameson in net pulled off a superb save down to his right to put the ball out for a corner & keep the score at 0-0. Jameson then went one better and somehow blocked a shot from inside the area when it looked nailed on the Vale player would score. However, our back-up keeper could do nothing to stop Vale scoring their goal shortly after - a good cross from Vale's tricky and pacey right-winger was met by a firm free header to make it 1-0. Cue screams and applause from the 40-odd crowd of fans. Maybe a few more - a few old 'uns up in the top tier.

We still looked bright going forward in hunt of an equaliser. Palmer shot wide, Miller had a point-blank header from a corner saved & Oliver (I think) had a goal dissallowed for offiside. We got lucky when Eckhardt (who formed a nice partnership with Hinds) crashed a clearance onto his own bar from a good Vale break down the right and a much-improved Boden shot just over with ther last kick of the game.

Full time. 1-0. I retreat back home via KFC.

Main positives?

1. 90 minutes for Tommy Miller. Looked rubbish first half, much better in the second when we actually played through midfield.

2. Liam Palmer. Busy but inneffective first half, but had a great second half showing just why he's on the fringe of the first team. For a fairly slight lad he's got a presence in midfield - guts, power and a voice. Good pace, happy to shoot, tackle, launch a long raking pass out to the wing (including a peach of a ball 2nd half), bring the ball forward with purpose. I came away impressed.

3. Nick Haywood. I like this lad. Never heard of him been talked about much, but I think he's one to watch. Stocky left full-back who bombs up the wing whenever he can, showing genuine pace. He can pass the ball, cross, head. Got caught out on occasions positionally but in fairness Vale's right-winger was lightning quick too.

4. Jameson between the sticks. Our number 2 keeper now with O'Donnell off at Grimsby - looked good. Good kicking, throw outs and that penalty save & point blank stop afterwards were outstanding.

5. Nathan Modest. I don't know how much of a chance he'll get this season given our strikeforce, and he seems to have drifted away from the fringes of the first team under Irvine, but he looked useful. Very quick & showed some good touches. I'd certainly like to see him get some game time as a sub this season, if ony because he's a completely different option to Tudgay, Mellor & co.

One gripe (apart from the expensive rubbish hotdog) - no substitutions. The bench was full of kids, but I don't think it would have hurt to give them some time on the pitch.

Glad I went & hope I remembered it right.

The Sheffield Wednesday Supporters' Society, Wednesdayite, were disturbed and saddened by the news of what had happened to Owls fan Kevin (Sid) Taylor as he was beginning his journey home from watching the Owls play Hartlepool United on 28 August 2010.

We strongly condemn all those who hide behind football and use it as an excuse for the kind of violence which has led to Kevin's serious injuries.

Our thoughts now are with Sid and his family and we send him our best wishes and our hopes for a speedy recovery.

We have been asked to help with collecting funds for Sid, who remains in hospital, to assist him and his family with the expenses they will be incurring at this time. We are pleased to announce that with the help and support of Sheffield Wednesday, we have been able to arrange a number of ways for you to contribute.

Bitter

So Tomorrow we could shoot from the top of the league to the bottom of the league in the blinking of a stunned fans fvckin' eye, it usually takes us at leasrt 3/4 of a bleedin' season to do that, this time its perhaps a swift kick in the nuts for long suffering Wednesday supporters.
Am i bitter?...yes i'm extremely bitter.
Like thousands of other fans ive been buying into bright new futures for over a fvcking decade , fed insidious crap by folk who know their promises have been nought but lying fog covered excuses for wringing more cash out of the only group associated with this that deserves better ..the fans.
I'm bitter that vultures circling this club who purport to be Wednesday supporters will wait to pick over its sodding carcass before injecting the money they probably already have, into the ailing fvcking shambles.
I could cope with another season down here, i bought a season ticket KNOWING it would be a season down here...at least...I did not fvcking know that we were welsching on the tax and were in a worse predicament than had been reported, but some knew....and still they did not see fit to tell folk who travel up and down the country cheering on what was a forlorn hope.
I'm bitter because our tradition and history is now seemingly floatin' down the bleedin' Don, because of lies and incompetence.
I'm bitterr because i once was proud, even in this league i was proud of the club, the blue and white stripes ,
I'm still proud of the supporters...the rest of the club is a fvcking midden...

In view of tomorrow's impending court case and the numerous reports from today's media outlets , Sheffield Wednesday Football Club would like to announce the following changes to Saturday's fixture vs Carlisle United.

1) Game will now take place in Concord Park - top pitch near the 5 a side pitches . If you could bring a ball it would be appreciated. Kick off 3pm or as soon as we can clear the chavs off and get the nets up.
2) Pies will not be served but Bob is bringing some home made Bovril and Sarnies , unfortunately its Bob so even though 20,000 may turn up he is budgetting for 6 of you
3) Board will be at the game and will be kept uptodate on scores inbetween bed pans and medication

We would like to thank you all for your continued blind support and happy clapping and don't worry everything is okay......

I know FC United do a radio broadcast from all home games, and it's very good quality with two fans commentating so VERY biased. This is a free service they offer but with Wednesday we could charge £5/£10 for the service and if we could get away games too we'd make a fortune!!
We could even get our own TV channel like York City have, and to raise extra money you let companies sponsor the video or radio shows from individual matches.

Darren Potter

The thing Ive noticed alot since we signed Darren Potter is that there are a lot of different views of him from Wednesday fans!

So I can see the general trend of opinions of him :

Rate him out of 10.

Reason for rating?

5/6 - Personally I dont think he is in the league as Coke or Miller (of what ive seen of him), he doesnt seem as attacking minded as the other centre midfielders. All his passes are either sideways or the majority are back to defence! Which then leads to Purse launching it long ---> resulting in losing possesion
.
