ASTON VILLA Aston Villa are apparently closing in on a shock move for Algeria striker Islam Slimani, who has a whopping £24m release clause in his contract. The 28-year-old is coming off one of the best seasons in his career, starring for Portuguese title contenders Sporting Lisbon with 27 goals in 33 games. A move to Villa, recently relegated to the Championship, would equal the club-record fee with add-ons they paid to sign Darren Bent from Sunderland in 2011. It would represent a real statement of intent from new Villa owner Tony Xia to get them back into the Premier League, but top-flight Everton are also interested. I noticed on the Blackburn fans forum that they had resigned themselves to Hanley's departure but certainly did not want Duffy to go as well. Is this the sort of player we should be looking at?
