Kent police probably want to send another 200 officers to control di Canio.
Great!!

Is this right that this game s to be played behind closed doors because Gillingham cannot afford the policing costs?
I think its a bit more political than that
I remember some time ago the Gills Chairman Paul Scally was in dispute with the police because i think he was fed up they were basically dictating how many police were gonna attend and he told them the club should be able to have input to how many police and how mnay stewards were needed
Then there was dispute over a bill and it didn't paid - something like that

The police are basically saying they have intelligence that leads them to think they'll need more coppers and Gillingham don't agree. Like Scram said, it's political.

So is it not possible to play a top flight football match without a police prescence then? I'd be interested to see what would happen should a game go ahead without the police being there. It would go one of 2 ways obviously, but it'd be great to see it pass off without incident.
I seem to remember it has been done in the league somewhere (not the Premier league) - and there was a bit of bother. Can't remember where I am afraid.

Can you imagine the uproar on here if they were trying to pull this at S6?

Same thread as this over on Owlsonline and someone has raised the very good point of whether the police will refund the season ticket holders, and I assume anyone else who has bought a ticket in advance?
Can you imagine the uproar on here if they were trying to pull this at S6?
Great point, never even thought of that one at all.
