I sit in the North stand on the halfway line about halfway back.
My iPhone is on the Orange network but I always struggle once inside the ground to get a strong enough 3G signal to get the Sky Sports app to work.
Is it my shite phone or do other fans have same problem?

its because of the sheer volume of people on their phones at the same time, plus the skysports app is rubbish.

I sit a few rows in front of you, and am on O2. Tends to be okay in the first half, but not afterwards when everyone is checking the piggies against whomever.

I reckon it's more contention than anything else.

Don't even go there , I've got a Blackberry Bold with Vodafone and every home match it nearly ends up on the pitch at half time trying to get scores from either the Skysports app or BBC website, I'm on the South by the way

Sit in almost exactly the same spot (but Row 13). My iPhone on O2 reckons it has full 3G reception but rarely connects to any scores apps. Just about manage to get enough for live betting.

Moved to O2 and it sometimes works, but not very often.

It's the high volume of phones all trying use services from the local mobile cell/mast at the same time. And I'm sure the big concrete and metal structure of the stadium doesnt help!

makes for good fun though, while everyones waitin for their shitty signal i changed my mates name on my phone to 'Sky sports goal updates'. Couple of weeks ago when united played brentford they were 2-0 up? everyone was a little bit pissed off about it, so we lightened the mood..Brentford scored 3 in 2 minutes before anyone could check and we got our mate behind us, i showed him my phone and he kept shoutin out the score everytime united 'scored', jumping up and down and everything, by the time the lads on the north had checked they must have though he was a bit retarded his face when we confessed was priceless!

Has nobody noticed the vodafone mast installed on the south stand? The signal is fine, but if 1000's fans want to look at the scores all at the same time, it just jams the network

I'm on 3 and can always get a signal to text but never manage to get 3G. Just rely on texts to keep me updated on other scores.

Im on Vodafone and dont get signal in either North or Kop. Then get a few texts after the match usually saying how poo poo Bennett is

Yep. I'm on Orange and can just about text, but no 3G or internet in general really. Funnily enough, no problem at away grounds. Just Hillsborough.

Always poor signal in the ground. As soon as I'm out, full and 3g!

Put your phone away and watch the match. Checking the scores every 5 mins won't change a thing.

Until this season I had not had a problem, last half a dozen plus games none of the texts I have sent have got through.

I'm on Orange. I sit on the South stand, and get good HSDPA reception (I used to work in telecoms-and that's the fastest)

As mentioned before, if you have thousands of people in a concentrated area, all using the same cell, then network traffic is going to be severly affected, no matter what network you are on. It's a shame SWFC don't install 20-30 wireless hubs/routers for the fans so we can keep abreast of things. It would be relatively inexpensive to install.
