Talksport talking about Owen, goldstein asking the expert on the phone if he thought Owen would ever drop and he said ' if a big club from the championship like Leeds or Sheffield Wednesday came in then I'm sure he'd prefer to be there than the likes of Wigan no disrespect to Wigan'.

As Wednesday fans we generally all are one club fans, I don't have a second team and never will.

My questions is, through life or job locations, family, friends etc have you ever been exposed to other clubs on a regular basis?

Moving to London and with work invitations i've found myself at Selhurst Park alot for events and having a Palace supporting housemate this is getting a little too much after what happened....

Southampton are another club I have many links through family and friends which is weird being from Sheffield.

Any unusal links on here?

First of all, sorry for starting another transfer thread but I feel this is slightly different We have seen us linked with strengthening virtually every position, with numerous different players mentioned. I'm sure we will tweak the side in all areas as we prepare for our championship season. The one area though that needs more than tweaking, is up front. If survival is our aim, then that may well be enough. If however, we want to challenge for a place in the Premiership, we will need to find a clinical striker.
This will probably require major investment. Strikers whose goal ratio give you the best chances of success, I'll add, there are no guarantees, are few and far between and tend to cost big money. For me, if we can secure last seasons loanees, add a few freebies, then I'd be quite happy if the remaining budget was spent on a top quality striker. We need that cutting edge

Sheffield Wednesday's Jose Semedo says he's not moving from Hillsborough following the club's promotion back to the Championship.
The 27-year-old Portuguese was voted both players' player and Owls' fans player of the year in his first season with the club after being signed from Charlton last summer by previous manager .
Semedo said: "I still say to myself that I've made the right decision joining because if I didn't come here I would never know how big this club is or what it means to play for this club.

I have decided to write a book about my life as a Wednesday fan and the upbringing of my 12 year old boy as a Wednesday fan.

I started watching Wednesday when I was seven, during the 74/75 season. I started taking my boy regularly when he was seven (although his first match was when he was 4, I think), 2005/06 season. We both enjoyed our first Wednesday glory when we were 12, me in the third division promotion season of 1980 and my boys was this season. Both seasons are the only two seasons Wednesday & United have spent in the Third Division together and Wednesday won promotion on both occasions. My boy has only seen struggle since he has been a Wednesday fan and any of you older fans will confirm that prior to 79/80, I had only seen struggle. This has influenced me to write a book about it, as both mirror each other. I am now hoping my boy sees a similar twenty years to what I witnessed from 1980 (without us going in to debt at the end of it).

I will keep this thread to keep opening for any help off you knowledgeable lot. If you have any memories from any year, 1975 onwards then please post. If it jogs my memory & relates to my following of Wednesday then it will be very helpful.

My first question is, what season did we draw 0-0 at home to Stockport County under Chris Turner? I think it was the season before the Play Off Final win (03/04), but need confirmation. This was my boys first game, before he started going regularly.

Any links to factual sites would be helpful.

OLDHAM Athletic have confirmed that their right-back, Kieran Lee, is joining Sheffield Wednesday.
Lee, winner of four Latics Player of the Year awards this season, will be moving to Hillsborough on a free transfer.
His contract runs out this summer and it is understood that he has chosen to join the Owls despite competition from several other clubs.
Oldham chairman Simon Corney said: “I can confirm that Kieran has left the club and it looks like he is joining Sheffield Wednesday.
“We did make him an offer but at the end of the day we simply cannot compete with a club like Wednesday, who are going to be in the Championship.
“Even the so-called big clubs in League One, like Huddersfield, can’t compete with Sheffield Wednesday in these sort of situations.”
Corney added: “Sometimes when players leave, you feel let down because you think they owe you something, but this is absolutely not the case with Kieran.
“He’s a great boy; I can’t speak highly enough of him; I wish we had 11 Kieran Lees. Everyone at the club wishes him all the best.”
Lee, born in Stalybridge, will be 24 next month. He has spent four years at Boundary Park after leaving Manchester United, where he came through the youth system to become reserve-team captain and played one Premier League game, against Chelsea. He has also played in the Championship while on loan at QPR in 2007-08.
Wednesday will see him as providing competition for Lewis Buxton, who has been first choice all season and is the club’s only recognised senior right-back after the release of Jon Otsemobor.
Lee played in both of Oldham’s games against Wednesday this season and scored in their 3-2 win at Sheffield United in March.
The Owls have sounded out Wolves, Reading, Newcastle and Burnley about this season’s loan players, Danny Batth, Michail Antonio, Nile Ranger and Keith Treacy, but their search is also spreading wider and it is understood many players are finding them an attractive proposition after the revival inspired by Dave Jones.
The club have announced the launch of a North American academy, which will establish links between the Owls academy and youth football clubs in Canada and the USA, in a partnership involving sports management company Global Image Sports.

Very interesting and perhaps difficult to provide an accurate answer but how many players do you think will be in both squads total. I suspect 24 new and old players in development squad aged between 18/23. Plus a 18 man first team squad, with interaction between both squads. This could make us money and put us in-front of the crowd.

Article in today's Telegraph showing the levels of debt carried by all Premiership clubs (at end of 2010/11 season) revealing that Blackburn, Bolton and Wolves had varying levels of debt from 25 million up. Their position is hardly likely to have improved over the last 12 months so who are the clubs that are in a good financial position for the coming Championship season?

I take it as read that we are one of them but who are our rivals?

Owls launch North American academy

Sheffield Wednesday are pleased to announce a formal partnership with Sports Management Company, Global Image Sports, to launch its North American Soccer Academy.

Phase one of the project will see the Owls' academy partner with a select number of youth football clubs across the United States and Canada. Each partner club's coaches and players will have the opportunity to work with the academy coaches of Sheffield Wednesday in both North America and the UK, offering an insight into the player development programme of the Owls' youth set-up.

SWFC academy manager, Sean McAuley, said of the launch: "We're quite fortunate that we have finalised our partnerships in America with a company that has an excellent standing in the States.

"Global Image Sports currently run international academies for other Premier League and Championship clubs and we're delighted to extend that link.

"GIS are a company brought to our attention through the chairman and vice chairman here at Sheffield Wednesday. We were really impressed with them and they were equally as impressed with the work that we have carried out in North America.

"It seems a perfect fit for both parties."

GIS Chief Operating Officer, Mike Kelleher said: "Global Image Sports has strong links with Sheffield Wednesday at a number of levels and we are looking forward to working together on a formal basis.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Dave Jones is hopeful of securing a permanent deal for Reading loanee Michail Antonio.

The 22-year-old winger helped the Owls to promotion from League One, scoring their first goal in the 2-0 final day win over Wycombe.

"We've spoken to Reading and we're in negotiations with them," Jones told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"Antonio has said that he'd love to join us and it's now up to us to strike a deal."

He added: "We're looking for a permanent deal with the boy but if we could sign him on loan for a year then that's something we'd consider but I wouldn't have thought that'd be an option."

The ex-Cardiff boss, who released six players on Tuesday , confirmed the club are also in talks with Newcastle and Burnley about Nile Ranger and Keith Treacy respectively.

But Jones is keen that the Owls do not completely overhaul the team that pipped rivals Sheffield United to automatic promotion from League One.

"We're speaking to all the clubs who we've had players on loan from," he continued.

"The division we're going into is completely different so you need to make sure you have the right squad in place.

"You don't want to lose what the club has gained in the last 12 months which is camaraderie and a toughness. They're a great bunch of lads so whoever comes in needs to fit in that dressing room."

Last night I watched the semi final and focused more on potter to see if he had actually improved as a player and I personally think he is still rubbish, passes from side to side and has never put a tackle/challenge in his life. People compare him to Chris Lines which I think is a joke. The commentators were singing potters praises last night saying "he's played champions leauge football" " he pulls all the strings in this team" "he can control the game" I think pundits should actually look up the players current form than past experiences.
