  1. best ground I've been to is Borussia Dortmund's Westfalenstadion. Was during the world cup, so would be incredible to go there for a Bundesliga game, especially as their kop consists of a 25,000 terrace. Thats what we should model any redesign of Hillsborough on.
  2. I'm another one in super natural British Columbia (Vancouver). Quite a few Italian coffee shops around me show the Champions league matches, which have a 1145am kick off. We never get Monday night games and even if we did I'd struggle to find somewhere showing it. So I sit around in my pants at home on a Saturday morning, drinking coffee, watching Jeff Stelling and his lot at 7am.
  3. where's Holmes when you need him? Still no takeover? Everything is ok?
  4. check out the main football board. It won't be hard to find. owlstalkadmin aka Neil aka Fattybear
  5. Would love Roland back, but with so many managerial stints ending in sackings I just don't think I could take seeing such an absolute legend fail. That said he could be a blinding success and end up getting a bigger and better job and hopefully leaving us in a much improved state on the pitch. Like you said Roland vs every other (realistic) candidate......I can't think of anyone I'd take over him. Didn't Grandad say in a thread that he'd been told by a former player that Roland had applied?
  6. cut to the chase. Sack SG and promote LB. Mando wants out. So this is probably the next owners decision. I wonder if Lee was one of the 50+ applicants?
  7. I'm sick of over the hill, washed up. Journeymen managers. Lets appoint someone with modern ideas and ambition to succeed rather than just wait for their compo. As we haven't got a pot to pi55 in any talk of OGS or Bergkamp is delusional. Some kind of bermuda triangle / time warp exists around S6
  8. 3 years on.....Bullen for manager....maybe at the end of the season, whether we are in the champ or league 1. The criteria for a Wednesday manager appears to be a big personality, playing attractive football, grasping the size of the club and the fans expectations. Surely Bullen ticks at least a few of those boxes. Maybe the long term option is right under our noses. We've had Big Jack and Big Ron. Now is the time for Big Lee.
  9. Seriously.....we were being run like a non-league outfit when DA, Addy, Grierson etc were in charge. We now have scouts, a youth system, fitness coaches. I don't believe there is currently anything but a short term plan to sell the club, but at least we are now a professional club.
  10. Only if we're taken over by someone with less ambition and money than Milan. Seriously, a lower league manager who has done nothing, other than try to get his teams passing the ball.
  11. playing 4-4-2 away from home against a superior footballing side. Our midfield is going to get owned.
  12. Better than DJ - he uses Football Manager 05/06 for all his player recruitment and opposition homework.
  13. I think he was referring to Roger's Liverpool rather than Dalglish's. Also, when did Adam Johnson sign for Liverpool?
  14. Solskjaer has actual managerial experience though (admittedly in Norway - where he has won everything). He has a great knowledge of the English game and may actually remember us as being a top flight club! Scholes or Phelan on his coaching staff would be immense. Yes, he turned down Villa, but Randy probably told him the transfer budget and cut backs and he didn't fancy it.
  15. Cheers. I can't think of anyone better. And our first "foreign" manager. The Baby Faced Assassin is The Boss!
  16. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. As I said in another thread. Young, successful, ambitious, and mentored by the best ever.
  17. Leamington is going for the Christmas tree formation. very Hoddle / Venables England-esque. Not seen it since though.
  18. I agree. Depending on how much the new owners have to spend. You can go defo use Swansea & West Brom for the benchmark of intelligent and sustainable management of a football club. I doubt we will get ridiculously wealthy owners like City or Chelsea, but hopefully wealthy enough to follow the above model. I think a strong spine of British players and a mix of euro players works best. What about Ole Gunnar as a manager shout? I can't think of anyone better. Young, successful, ambitious and mentored by the best ever.
  19. IF everyone is fit. What about this? Kirkland Buxton Roger J Llera Reda Semedo McCabe McPhail JJ Maghoma Fryatt - Semedo offers greater defensive cover and only needs to distribute the ball to McCabe or McPhail - McCabe can really benefit and grow from playing alongside McPhail - Plenty of pace and counter attacking intent with JJ, Mags and Fryatt as a front 3.
  20. No, not another takeover rumour. Something a bit more light-hearted and escapist. My wishlist / action plan for the new (hopefully minted) owners. The way to take this club forward. Give DJ till December to turn results around. Back him with some high profile loan signings in the mean time. Approach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer about becoming the new manager, as DJ will most likely not turn things around. Appoint OGS and back him heavily in the Jan transfer window - 10 to 20 million quid would be a start. And repeat until we get promoted. Completely overhaul the commerical aspects of the club Identify a new ground - an iconic design, modern, state of the art - look at the new Juve stadium for inspiration. Downsize to 35k capacity (with option to expand once we're finishing top half of Premier League) and a real name not some corporate branding. New training ground. David Hirst statue outside the new ground. Beres catering at the ground. A selection of local ales on tap. Huge investment in youth development and scouting network. That's start anyway.
  21. Good call. Juventus downsized their stadium as they never filled the Delle Alpi. Think we should be aiming for Brighton's ground more than Leicester's which is pretty generic. Would be nice to see SWFC try to innovate. Pipe dream though it is. Is the land that Hillsborough stands on worth anything? Would be great to redesign from the same site. Chelsea and Man U managed it over the years. God knows we need it. Also decent, local catering and ales. Again, lets innovate, get back in touch with the football club's place in the local community.
