Sheffield Wednesday have taken young Watford striker James Collins on trial, The Star have confirmed.
Sheffield Wednesday will have a primary target of staying in the Championship this season. They currently sit second from bottom in the table but are just one point from safety with eight games left to play.
However, they could be forgiven for planning for the future. Not only their immediate future, or even just summer incomings and outgoings, but those with a long-term future at the club.
Their U21 system has been a success for various managers at Hillsborough in recent years and they are looking to add to it with the possible signing of Watford youngster Collins.
The 19-year-old striker is currently on trial with the Owls according to a report from The Star. Should the trial period go well, there is a chance the player would be offered a deal to join up with the club’s youth team with a view to promoting him to the first-team fold in years to come.
He looks to be currently assessing his options, especially because his current deal comes to an end at Vicarage Road at the end of the season. However, the Hornets do have an option to extend his stay at the club if they see fit.
