  1. Our manager, Stuart Gray, basically said that he was overrated when he announced that he could rely on players like Maghoma but Antonio didn't have a football brain. I fail to see how he could play full back, wing back, winger and centre forward for West Ham in the Premier League if he didn't have a football brain.
  2. Stuart Gray said Antonio didn't have a football brain shortly before selling him on the cheap to Forest. I'm not sure how that ties in with a 7? million quid move to West Ham, Bilic playing him as a full/wing back, winger and centre forward in the Premier league and getting a call up to the England squad.
  3. We got the highest crowds in Div 3 and always in the top few attendances in Div 2 every week, usually higher than a lot of 1st Division teams.
  4. I can't exactly remember which game it was but didn't he play in Bannan's role in one game. He looked pretty decent passing the ball about. If that is his preferred style it was always going to be difficult to excel here unless Bannan got injured. Hope he recovers asap for his own sake whether he goes back to Blackburn or not. The day after he signed I played golf with a Blackburn fan who didn't know he'd come to us. I asked if he was any good and he said "He's brilliant"
  5. Bramall Lane with cricket pitch about 1970. Could hardly see anything. Probably got my first pair of glasses (blue and white tinted of course) shortly after.
  6. I've just remembered... Gary Thompson Colin Walker Juan Cobian Des Hazell Tony Gregory Mark Proctor Franz Carr Some were ok-ish, most weren't.
  7. I thought he was already on a 3 year deal along with Gassama. It is Bernard who only has 1 year.
  8. IIRC Atkinson came in in February and kept us up. We got relegated the following season with a then record number of points to be relegated with on the last day of the season. We were tailed off early in the season but recovered and then blew it late on. I seem to remember that Dalian Atkinson was well into double figures before Hirst had scored more than a couple but they finished just about level at the end of the season. They never fired at the same time. Dalian scored the goals early on and Hirst got them later. Everybody could see we were good enough to come straight back up so there was no clamour for Atkinson to go and all the players stayed apart from Atkinson who went to Real Sociedad. I'd suggest that if we got back into it but blew it later on this season we should have the same attitude to Roehl as we did to Atkinson. it would be no mean achievement to get back in with a shot of staying up regardless of the final outcome.
  9. The only difference in circumstances, until yesterday, is that we've had a bad start to the season. If he wanted the job in the summer there is nothing unusual in him still fancying it a couple of months later even though the task is much harder. I would also have thought that Chansiri would have contacted him and persuaded him to apply due to his apparent good performance at interview in the summer.
  10. I know there are other things which look weird. I'm just saying I don't think Roehl's appointment is anything to do with it. If there was a takeover in the offing in the summer and he was the chosen man why didn't Roehl get the job then? If it is a new takeover it seems a bit of a coincidence that they are now choosing the man who was second best in the summer unless it is the same team and the takeover was close in the summer but fell apart and Chansiri decided to put Xisco in instead. I'm just saying it seems a bit too coincidental that it could revolve around Roehl to that extent. It also seems like playing with fire to unnecessarily risk the wrath of HMRC and the EFL.
  11. I agree. I fail to see why people think his appointment means we are being taken over. He applied for the job in the summer and seems to have been second best so if it was close why wouldn't Chansiri contact him again after Xisco's sacking to see if he was still interested. Just because he retained that interest doesn't mean the circumstances have changed. It is not entirely impossible that a takeover is in the offing but I don't think Danny Roehl's appointment can be used as evidence for it.
  12. Maybe because they knew as little as we did about it until yesterday?
